When I first listened to the music of Joe Satriani, it was the self-titled album. I was a metal-head and into heavier music. I thought his music sucked and he was over-rated. I couldn't continue listening to that tape! Then I got the extremist album (which is released earlier!) and thought to give Joe another chance! and that was it. To this dayI listened to every single track and watched almost all live concerts by Joe ever since. It is almost impossible to me to spend a week without listening at least for a few hours to Satch albums. I consider The extremist album to be the definition and an encyclopedia of the style of Joe Satriani. War, The extremist, New blues, Motorcycle driver, Tears in the rain.... All masterpieces. I am thankful this reality included the music of Joe Satriani.

the self titled is one of my favorites though; laid back non pretentious blues; I went through my metal-head period in secondary school, but over time most of it ended boring me; still love tool, for example; but most metal is not "hard", just fast; there are a lot of harder bands with more rebellious attitudes in rock. It also doesn't help that during the 90's metal became very geeky. Still, Satriani is the only one of the virtuosos who doesn't sound like they're overcompensating for not being cool enough at school; I like most of his albums.

It might have sucked also for you when you first listened to Satch that although his music was not as hard or as loud as the others, he's technically 100X better than your so-called Metal guItarists at that time LOL!

Satriani has mastered all performance techniques on electric guitar, including legato, two-handed tapping and arpeggio tapping, volume swells, harmonics and extreme whammy bar effects. Satriani is considered to be a technically proficient guitarist,and has been referred to as a guitar virtuoso. Satriani created his own recognizable style and is an influential guitarist. He has received 15 Grammy nominations.

Since 1988 in Montreux I saw him at all his Tour and met him several times and it's not over ! See you in 2022 Master...🎼🎵🎶🎸🍀😎

Long life to Joe and this best of all masterpiece album the extremist. I wish I could see him one day, but hes mostly touring in US unfortunately. This guy has never stopped to inspire me, and also impress me by his feeling. Do not get me wrong this guy has huge skills, but most notably on this album, there are not so hard stuff like we could imagine (fast licks, sweeping etc...). I have never considered Satch as a fast player or as we say "shredder". But I struggle to sound like him. Not because of his mics, not because of his amps, just because of his feeling on his 6 strings.

@@jerbear1601 Flying is my other top fave Satch album. The Extremist seems more overall focused as an album, which the only reason I put it in the "perfect album" category. Ranking is silly, of course. I would loved to have seen either tour, Flying in particular. I love his live footage from that period.

Satriani worked as a guitar instructor, and some of his former students have achieved fame such as Steve Vai, Larry LaLonde, Rick Hunolt, Kirk Hammett, Andy Timmons, Charlie Hunter, Kevin Cadogan and Alex Skolnick. Satriani has been a driving force in music credited to other musicians throughout his career, as a founder of the G3 tour, as well as performing in various positions with other musicians.
@TheBfutgreg Жыл бұрын
Vai, Timmons and Skolnick are the best of the best there.....he taught something special for sure, although I'm sure those specific artists had the special talents anyway Too bad he couldn't teach Hammett decent vibrato....I like Metallica well enough but his solos are so hit-or-miss since his guitar is crying....but not in a good way, like an "in pain" kind of way, man can't vibrato his way out of a Guitar Center

Somehow, I just shake my head by watching this music video. Good Quality with a lot of gimmicks, this should be good enough to attract audiences. MTV did made a screwed up job in de-popularizing top artists like Satch back in the 90's. Its no surprise they're doing more reality TV garbage these days rather than promoting talented musicians!
