It's a shame the left seems to think they should be against it. It's not only the only civil right they oppose, it's the one they should absolutely support, as every change-oriented political platform in history has supported the right to have arms. Generally because the establishment-oriented party tries to limit that right. Somehow, we've ended up completely backward.

We require you to pass a written and practical test before you can drive a car, but if you can pass a background check and get two people to vouch for you, you can get a handgun with no further questions asked. Personally I believe that every responsible level-headed person should be armed, But I also think everybody should at least have some level of safety training.

@@samuelmorphis9656 You cannot buy a car without a license and you certainly cannot be insured or register the car without a license, unless you register it as no-op, which means it cannot go on public roads. It's totally illegal to drive a car without all that, and it all hinges on you having a license. You technically CAN, but If you get in an accident and hurt someone on public roads it's VERY easy to levy felony assault and even murder / attempted murder charges on someone for that. That being said, I would be down for people to have to do a training course and get insurance to have a gun, and if they kill someone without it, it becomes super easy to prosecute them.

@@mn815048 what the constitution? Because thats been changed 27 times in its history. And as far as I'm aware there are no laws that aren't subject to change or revision, rightly. And since your current gun regulations are allowing people to gain access to firearms when not licensed to do so, and then kill people with them as we've seen in a few school shooting cases where children have gained acces to parents or grandparents firearms and taken them to school. I'd argue from a moral standpoint the instance that happens, regulations should be put in place like store your firearm in a secure unit like a safe with the ammunition not loaded, or sometimes in an enirely different secured unit. That would mean kids wouldn't get in there, and if they did they'd find bullets and no gun, or a gun without bullets. Mybe also mandatory health checks every year, maybe every 3, maybe every 5, but either way the mental state of registered gun owners should be checked on a regular basis. And maybe strictly limit the type of firearms certain people could use, for example here in the UK we do have guns, and you can get licensed for them, but only if your a farmer to shoot foxes and rabbits which harm their livestock and crops. The average Joe shouldn't be able to buy a semi-automatic rifle just for protection of their house, there needs to be limits.

Absolutely less lethal rounds are a bad idea but they are a way to open dialogue. Example: Liberal: You can front load three rounds with rubber or bean bags. Me: Great idea but I’m going to be using a lethal weapon in a less lethal way? Liberal: Yes sounds easy enough right? Me: But don’t the police have special guns painted bright green or orange so they don’t make mistakes and load live ammo in them. Liberal: I think you are right. Maybe you need a second gun that only fires less lethal bullets. Me: So you want me to carry two guns!?! Your solution to gun crime is more guns? Ummmm, I know quite a few people who have been saying this for years. Liberal: That’s not what I meant. Me: It’s a hard problem, maybe we should go to the range and shoot a few boxes of ammo? Liberal: I’ve never done that before. My grandpa had an old shotgun I touched and I shot a BB gun once or twice but never a real gun. Me: Well come on with me, first couple hundred rounds are on me.

jer1014t2th i disagree. It IS the worst idea. Even 12ga BIRD SHOT is shit. There’s a mass shooter video (check Active Self Protection channel, it was in a college) where a douchebag unloads a round of 12ga bird shot into a girl’s CHEST at like 5 feet. She looks down, and calmly runs off. She survived. Rock salt will do even less. You go ahead and use salt when your life is on the line. If I am ever in that scenario, on the massive list of concerns in my mind, whether the attacker lives or dies is rounding up the bottom.

John-Paul Silke hahahahahaha haha! Imagine that! A calm conversation about guns with a liberal! Right there in your comment is the first time such a calm, reasonable conversation has ever occurred. It usually starts with “REEEEEEEEEEEEE” and ends with “EEEEEEEEEEEEEE!” I’m kidding of course. Such conversations do happen, just rarely these days. I had one with my friend’s girlfriend who is SUPER anti gun and anti trump. I asked her one thing that blew her mind and just made her laugh in defeat. After saying guns should be incredibly hard to obtain, if not banned outright, I asked, “so you want to give all the guns to be in fascist Trump’s control?” She stuttered for a minute, laughed, and said “yeah that’s a good point. I didn’t think about that”.

Even mandatory tests to see if you're qualified are an infringement. Take Quebec, Canada, my Province of birth, for example: You need to take mandatory government controlled classes and tests to get a driving's license, which costs thousands of dollars and takes a year to complete. Not only that, but what they teach you in there is completely fucking useless, and when I went through it, they didn't even teach that, the instructors just sat on their ass and didn't do anything. Then you get to the test. A single individual is in charge of deciding whether or not you can get your license, no matter how well you did on the test. "If they judge that you're too dangerous, they hold the right to deny you a driver's license" in other words, if they don't like you, they can fuck you over. It happened to me. Didn't pass the first time because the instructor was an old fuck who didn't like me, second time I did because it was a different instructor. Now with The Flu 2.0™, the whole system has been shut down, my brother can't get his license, he paid 2/3rds of the classes and they just told him "fuck you, we don't want you to have your license."

No there shouldn't be any waiting period, but I am for more training and firearm safety. I would be fine watching a 5 minute video on basic firearm safety and taking a 5-10 questions test. Paper tests should also be readily available in case of technological malfunction. I'm not sure about making it a requirement for your firearm purchases though, as you might have your rights restricted if tests aren't available. But I think it would be a sort of nice standardized option after purchasing a firearm if possible. I also think it would be a great idea for FFL's to give a reference sheet (if possible) for local firearm safety courses in your area.

@@robbievalentine8239 Yeah nothing wrong with that but that's not the meaning. A militia is a non professional civilian military force. Regulated in the context of this sentence means in working order not restricted. It makes no sense to say a restricted militia is necessary for security. Also the right is that of the people not the militia. You have to remember this was written by people who had just fought a war that in the early stages was fought with essentially a militia against professional soldiers. So they knew how important it was for civilians to be armed in case they need to form a militia for protection. This is a better wording that explains the meaning. A well armed and maintained militia is necessary for security. All militias are made up of armed civilians. Therefore the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed in case it is necessary for them to form a militia.

Please, please don’t even think about putting rubber bullets in your self defense weapon. It’s an idiotic idea. You never know how many shots you will get. You may have only one shot at stopping someone. Then what? Not to mention those rubber bullets are prone to jamming, locking up your gun and can be deadly in their own right. You self defense weapon should always be loaded, one in the chamber with the safety on or in a holster that covers the trigger. If you are not comfortable with that then seek training. An unloaded weapon isn’t a weapon. A weapon with rubber bullets isn’t a weapon. @@lukebowler7946 And you seem to believe that the only reason to keep a gun is because you think they're cool. You should never own a gun. Other people know that guns are not toys. Generally speaking, they can be trusted with them. Some people drink, some people take drugs, smoke marijuana, etc. Mind alterants. They have to decide whether they trust themselves with a gun. And if they decide wrong, they'll become felons that are not allowed to *legally* own a gun. But the government does not get to have the responsibility of deciding whether or not you or I should have a gun - because that's my responsibility. As a human being; as an adult. I'll take responsibility over safety - not least because it's illusionary safety. False safety. Hell. Some people shouldn't own guns. But the government should not be the primary arbiter of that except in specific circumstances - like mentally ill who have shown themselves to be dangerous to themselves or others; or criminals with violent offenses. Stepping beyond those bounds is a problem - both for personal self-defenders and systemic oppression. You don't oppress an armed population. It's not healthy. 6:00 The suggestion that you have to learn to use a gun before you buy one is a huge non-starter for a lot of reasons. How do you learn if you don't already have a gun? Not everybody has a friend who has a gun and not everybody can afford the hundreds of dollars it takes to go to a trainer. If you canonize this into law, there will necessarily be some degree of government oversight and a list of requirements before you can buy the firearm. If a significantly anti-2A politician can get into the right position to affect those requirements, the RIGHT to bear arms could be effectively revoked because they can make the process of getting "trained and certified" so overly complicated and expensive that most people just don't have the time or money to get it done. This is how they've effectively revoked the right to bear arms in Mexico. They've made the government itself the only legal seller, and there's only ONE location ... so if you can't afford to take the trip all the way across the country to the ONE seller, you just don't get to buy a gun at all. This also ignores the very definition of what a RIGHT even is. If you have a RIGHT, that thing is yours to do or to have without first having to ask permission. Your humanity is what authorizes it, not the government. The constitution doesn't grant you the right to bear arms. It begins with the understanding that the right is your and the only thing the 2A actually does is promise not to infringe upon it. By definition, all gun laws are unconstitutional because they necessarily infringe upon the right to bear arms. To get a PERMIT is to ask PERMISsion from the government. This means that if you have to get a permit, the government has already infringed upon your right to the point that it's been defacto revoked and replaced with an entitlement. An entitlement is NOT the same thing as a right.

Much bigger learning curve for DA/SA hammer fired rather than a Glock or Springfield XD which are great for beginners . It was an expensive uninformed mistake IMHO for a first pistol. Two years and 10,000 rounds later , I love that gun and shoot steel DA/SA guns primarily but my wife can’t even rack the slides. I paid for her to take a class and of the guns the instructor brought the only pistol she could rack the slide on was a Glock 19. It’s about making an informed decision about what you can handle and shoot best. The worst shooters I’ve met are the guys who have no training but “ grew up with guns”... they have 15 pistols but can’t shoot any well. Yes , we have the fundamental right , but what’s the use if you can shoot your self in the foot but can’t hit the side of a barn ? I dread public ranges because most people are untrained and do stupid things. Yes, you can rent a gun and try it , but the ranges that rent guns have even more unsafe untrained shooters taking selfies and flagging everyone. At Action Pistol , everyone trains and are safety fanatics and are lifelong students of marksmanship and gun skills.

I think it has possible merits to it. For starters it would put some people at ease who are not comfortable with the lethal option and who otherwise would not even own a gun for self-defense out of fear of taking a life. It would also show the courts that you made every possible attempt to handle the situation non-lethally if you get jammed up legally. Another possible application could be in an apartment building setting where your bullets are going to rip right through your apartment walls and into your neighbors residence. If I was gonna have a set up like this though I think it would only be one rubber round in the chamber. Three is just a few too many to burn through before you're able to go lethal.

Nothing is ever going to get done *EVER*. Guns are a wedge issue for a reason: This is an issue on which many people are wildly uninformed, about which they have very intense emotions. There is no incentive for either side to compromise, because the cause isn't about the results, it's about the money. If the cause were about the results, ie: fewer dead people from gun homicides, there's lots of things we can do. For the 2/3rds of gun homicides which are suicides, how about improving access to mental health services, or a better safety net so that old retired men who can't afford to support themselves and their families when they get old don't off themselves? Nobody is interested in a compromise because not compromising is a cash-cow.
@jer1014t2th
@jer1014t2th 3 жыл бұрын
I'm reasonably certain that gun control advocates aren't about results. Take away guns and people use other weapons or illegally-obtained firearms. I'm pretty sure that pro-2A advocates are about results. Take away guns, and the result is more government and economic (I.e. corporate) oppression with less fear of results - as well as a spike in violent crime because criminals are less afraid. Politics aside, yeah - let's work on the mental health problem. Please. People out there have unexpected mental breaks, at around 20 years old or 40. And they need help. Suicide....we help where we can. But if a person really wants to die, they'll find a way. Someone close to me tried, and failed. I'm really glad they failed. It did some damage, though.

I also belong to 4 other organizations that all promote firearm safety and 2nd amendment rights. My neighbor let’s call her “Mary”, was totally anti-gun. She survived a home invasion that left her raped and hospitalized for over a month. Afterward, her whole outlook upon firearms changed. A year later, I sponsored her for a life membership. Not all NRA members are these total, backwards, no responsibility, carry an AR-15 into Walmart people. If you believe that, you’re watching way to much TV and news media. Even if the NRA were completely gutted and dismantled. Do you really think that would stop the push for second amendment rights? Do you think the pro-gun people will just hand all there firearms over to the government and start singing Kumbaya? If you do, you really need to stop smoking your socks.

From a person that sells guns on a daily bases, there is a waiting period for some people. We get either Proceed, Delay, or Deny. If the person has a common name or goes there background checks often or even lives close to a felon, it can cause them to get delayed while NICS looks into there background manually. If you have a clear history or have bought guns before, it usually comes back proceeded and you can leave with it the same day. If i sell 50 guns, 30 of them get probably going to get delayed. Common misconception. People get mad at me everyday when they find out them can’t leave with it because that’s all they’re told.

You can point out the logical contradictions in their "beliefs" or "opinions" and they will not acknowledge them, there isn't an individual human being behind their eyes, they're a cog in a machine, mindlessly going along with the others.

Or maybe the narrow, preposterous lines each party has arbitrarily drawn don't reflect the beliefs of actual people. I totally support medicare for all, affordable education, environmental regulations, police overhauls, racial/sexual/whatever equality, and regulated markets. I also wholeheartedly support the 2A and all the rest of the Bill of Rights. Somehow that one issue makes me not a liberal to most other liberals. Those people are idiots.

I agree with 99% of that. I think they should teach gun safety in school so everyone understands or has even the most basic understanding of what they are for, how they are used and as much fun safety as possible. Almost like an in depth hunters safety coarse

Interesting fact: At the time of this comment, the video has only been out for 10 minutes. The video length is 12 minutes. Therefore the 17 people disliking the video, have not watched the entirety of the video and are basing their “dislike” off of a small portion of the video or simply click and dislike . Possibly competitors.

I doubt it. He didnt really explain but I'm guessing he's alluding to things like corporate political contributions, lobbying, and all the other ways that the world's foremost capitalists have captured the American government. I'm not an opponent of capitalism but the political system as it is now is completely incapable of making decisions for our social well-being or civil progress if/when it runs contrary to a powerful corporate objective. I think both capitalism and American style democracy are BOTH great but when capitalists are running the show, it stops working on most levels.

This is what we need more of. Responsible gun owners offering solutions/ideas to improve gun safety in our country, instead of just screaming SECOND AMENDMENT. The left would be wise to encourage more of this too.
