Joe all due respect here (love your shows). Les Stroud went into the series about as objectively as one could with the whole phenomena of Bigfoot. My perception is that Les entered into a "partnership" (if you will), with Todd Standing in the Survivorman Bigfoot series but remained at arm's length from Todd all the while series was documented. He held Todd accountable when he felt is was necessary and questioned him often. Long story short I found Les' series on the subject very credible and well done - not corny or "hoaxy" in the least. I find Les Stroud to be a tough SOB and the real deal. I'll watch the whole series repeatedly.

A few things on this coming from not an expert, but a life-long Bigfoot lover. These recordings were never officially called the Samurai Sounds/Chatter, their proper name is believed to be the Sierra Sounds due to them being recorded in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. What's on the recordings wasn't the first time the guys heard them, the first time they heard them apparently the guys were so scared that it made some of them cry, and these are experienced seasoned hikers and hunters. The camp site was a very complex site constructed miles and miles away from any roads or towns and the route to get to it is one of the toughest trails to traverse, only for experienced outdoorsmen. Also there are multiple recordings/tapes, anywhere from 4 to 8, I'm not sure how many there are exactly and they of course aren't going to be the best quality given they were made in the mid 1970's.

Oh they are real Joe, and me and my Forrest Ranger partner saw one in the largest forested area in the lower 48. Scared us so much that we stayed together when we were supposed to separate with radios to get to all the mountain lakes we were supposed to get to .We were doing a 10 day naturalizing( picking up trash and erasing any sign of humans to preserve the wilderness experience for people who went hiking into the wilderness) the wilderness hike. We weren't able to get to all the lakes and trails we were supposed to because we stayed together because of what we saw. Big totally hairy man like 7 ft tall. Anyway, our work was checked out b our supervisors ad they asked us after the next 10 day naturalizing the wilderness hike, why we didn't get to all the lakes and trail we were supposed to. They noticed that there were lots of signs of humans like trash and campfire rings etc. I said, you want the truth? They said yes. We told them that what we saw, and that that we styed together and weren't able to get to all the places we were supposed to go if we had split apart. These supervisors were t women that had gone to the same school we had, and they looked at each other and laughed. One of them then said that if we told anyone what they were about to tell us, they would deny it. Anyway that woman said that they had done the same thing we did in the same area 2 years earlier. She said that they both had seem them too when they did a naturalizing hike. The she said as a matter of fact, just two weeks prior to our coming out to this area, a woman that has taken a job on a fire lookout for the summer, had reported on her two way radio a blow by blow description of a family ( six)of sasquatch climbing up a cliff and going into a cave. She got a very good look at them with her telescope and binoculars. She asked immediately for someone to come out to the fire lookout and get her out of there. They did and she was immediately let go. Our two women supervisors then told us that the forest service knows they exist, but if we wanted a paying job (We were volunteers at the time)with the forest service to not ever speak say that you saw one. That's true story Joe. This thing walked about 50 feet in front of us, across an old logging trail we were on. My ranger partner and I stopped in our tracks when we saw it and I said to him, "Did you see that? He said he did. I looked for tracks the next morning but the ground was hard and dry. This was no man in a Hairy suit, it was the real deal.

The men who recorded this had heard these sounds many times before, which is the reason they brought audio recording equipment with them. No deer hunter takes recording equipment with them on a mountain hunt. They were familiar with these sounds and creatures. Also, their structure was damn near a log cabin that used heavy timbers, and they all had deer rifles. This is why they were not panicked.

A recoding featured in this podcast was taped in the 70’s by a man camping with his friends deep into a trail. It was really dark, the only light around them was the fire. They heard two different “things” running towards their campsite from different directions. So they ran into their little “fort” they built and stayed quiet because they were scared from what they were hearing. They actually went through the same thing another night, but decided to go back out to that same campsite to get a recording. Both times they stayed in their little “fort” til the sun came up then dipped out... The man who convinced his friend to go back with him to get a recording continued going back there for a long time, because he wanted to try and figure out what was making that sound. He didn’t say it was a “Sasquatch”. He didn’t know what it was. That’s why he was so invested into trying to find out what was around that area. The story is featured in a Missing411 book by David Paulides, whom is the man who dedicated his life to bring awareness to the number of missing cases.

The audio from the sierra mountains with Bigfoot is from their 2nd encounter and the went out there to try and capture the sounds so it’s not like a first time encounter where you would be tripping out real bad. Joe had a video comparison between a man who claimed he was the one wearing the costume in the most famous bigfoot film, and him walking along on a sidewalk. There was definitely a similarity in the gait. What wasn’t similar were the surfaces. How could a man in a bulky ape costume move with the same ease across rough forest floor as on a concrete sidewalk? The film shows an animal effortlessly gliding across a rough forest, at a fast rate. It looked as smooth as the so-called faker walked across a sidewalk, yet in the film, the animal is covering way more ground. That was the first time I saw Joe’s reasoning fall apart on me. He saw the gait looked similar, and case closed as a fake.

Yeah, Joe butchered the story about it. Also, the guys that recorded the sounds never released the recordings until decades later. It also wasn't their first encounter with whatever was making those noises, it was the first encounter where they decided to record the sounds. The area is heavily remote and very few outside of the people that went there know about it. It's so remote that the guys who went there to hunt Dear never had one day where they did not kill a Deer - meaning the Deer that live there don't see people very often and are out an about. The vocal noises aside, the real strange thing about it is the sounds of the wood being bashed against trees. You can hear the impact of those blows despite being far away from the men. Whatever was hitting the trees was freakishly strong.
