Trump has just done exactly what my poor father did more and more often as he lost all contact with reality. However, my father knew he was messing up and would isolate himself to cry his eyes out every time he drove himself into a hopeless narrative. We were advised to let him be and distract him with a snack shared with as many of us as possible as soon as he stopped weeping. When Trump's dementia is in a phase where he is not completely "lost" I detest him and those who use him. When he is in crisis, as he could have been for the "helicopter episode", I pity him for that moment and detest all those who profit from his very sick state. (Otherwise it's far simpler: I detest the lot of them.) Trump's need for a clinical mental health examination is now perfectly clear. Good luck to anyone who gets the job of getting that examination organised, a medal to the person who executes it, and every available medal for exceptional courage to the person who informs Trump of the results.
