I still teach it to my granddaughter to this day. I grew up in League City, TX during the late ‘70s - early ‘80s. There was a serial killed called the I-45 killer roaming our streets during those days. Back to Chinchilla, I can’t stop watching her after her collab’s with REN.

"Put your keys in your knuckles like *I* have to..." Implies more than just emotional pain, which changes the context for me to "you wont use these hands to hurt people anymore". Which is interesting, because it's not in the original lyrics. She added that line for this performance.

When I first witnessed this masterpiece, I sat there absolutely stunned. It literally took me several minutes to process what I had just witnessed and if it was even real or some sort of daydream. There is no way that I would have been able to formulate cohesive sentences, well done :) The studio version is quite good too and I'd be keen to see your reaction to the set design and costumes, it is the same song with a little different vibe, I love them both but this will always be my favorite.

Here I am thinking I was the only one that melted when she belted out " woman scorned "...up until then I was focused on her vocal ability to transition from style to style seamlessly. After that, I felt like she had reached into my soul and I was there with her, thinking about an abusive ex in my own past. I also LOVED her use of the " keep your keys in your knuckles like I have to " to drive home the desire for him to feel fear and vulnerability like he made her feel. I have yet to meet a woman that has never situated her keys Wolverine style when walking alone at least once...

I don't even walk from the grocery store exit to my car (if I'm alone after dark) without my keys spread out between each knuckle at almost 43 years of age. I learned this as a teenager living in Brooklyn, NYC. Had many scary experiences there. Almost lost my life at least twice. Another thing a lot of people miss, is her saying "Cause this was me last year" and the camera pans to her shadow on the wall behind her. Absolute genius. I love her so much.

I so enjoyed your empathic reaction. Thanks for taking us along with you. I hear pain in her voice, too. That closing line “keep your keys in your knuckles like I have to” spoke to me of physical threat and the aftermath of violence. It felt like a key to the lyrics. It got me started considering violence against a women as a kind of scorn. And yes, isn’t that line in the song a spine tingler. It’s amazing to see an artist broach this subject and make it intimate, compelling and outrageous. You go, Daisy!

Joe eeeeee, I am speechless with a tender smile at your tears. Rolling drops of emotion sparked by Chinchilla are not a sadness, but an expression of joy, of amazement, of wonder at what you experience. She digs deeply into our souls, and we react to the birth of an artist achieving her full bloom, and all in front of our eyes. We ride the rails with you, arrowing towards the heart and mind of an artist who pulls us along with her as she sends her words skyward. Love your human, humble reactions!

And Chinchilla does it in a way that makes you stop and listen. Over and over again. The other female artist who can do that for me (in a completely different way) is Eivor. Joe, I found you thru BP & I'm so glad I did. I'm an empath too & I love how you "feel" things. Everything makes me cry whether it's sad, beautiful, happy or angry. I hate it. I've had people tell me they wish they could wear their heart on their sleeve like I do & I'm like NO YOU DON'T. I wish that I was the "never let them see you cry" type of person. However, seeing you from this perspective makes me elated because I can relate so well. Thank you for being such a gift.
