This video will probably cause a lot of political discussion, which is fine. I tried to put it together in a way that was simply my natural reactions to the experience rather than what it means in a greater context. The Border Patrol was a novel experience at first, but after a few weeks I got sick of stopping to ask permission to drive down the road in my own country.

This video is pretty scary to watch as someone who's never seen or experienced tyranny first hand. A walled off border, government agents asking you where you have been and where you are going. Reminds me of stories from DDR and CCCP. I'm glad I live in a free country. What happens if you don't stop to talk to them? What happens if you don't want to talk to them? What happens if you talk a language they don't understand? What happens if you ask them where they have been? Great video, Joe.

The closest footage to san diego was the wall, which is in Campo, maybe 2 hours away.

This was an insightful video for an Englishman. I've never looked into the issue of Border Patrol before.

The trail goes intentionally into the wilderness where you have to pack your own food. So probably not.

I assume that's true, and I thought about it, but it could easily turn a one minute conversation into a much longer ordeal, where I pull over and get out and they bring in the dogs etc. And when they let me go, what have I gained from that? It's not a secret that I'm going to San Diego, so I tell the guy. But needing some dude's permission, with or without the conversation, raises my hackles.

it's sad that they have to ask question like that, as you shouldn't have to answer them. but i also know why they do that. to protect their land is still something that yes they should be proud of i know it must not be the easiest job there is as so many people would hate you for what you do sadly. as much as i wish this wasn't need that there was ways of dealing with it better i think that will be far after my time here.

...Joe, you may not want to live in a state where you are questioned about your whereabouts,...but why aren't you concerned you may one day live in a COUNTRY where you have to answer questions about your health to a government employee. They , too, will judge the validity of your story.

People need to realize its not just to keep the "bad mexicans" out . But also to keep all Americans in. It just becomes one massive state prison.

Just curious, but technically, you don't HAVE to tell them (the cops) anything, at least according to the ACLU's PSAs....so what would happen if you didn't?

"I wanted to see the wall that separates the United States from Mexico." Don't you think you would've seen it better if you'd waited until after sunrise?

My question would be closer to: when can we make it higher? The thing is a joke. You can jump right over it. Its not splitting a country in two, its separating two sovereign powers. The principle is very different. There is a flood of immigrants coming through illegally. I understand how difficult it is to get U.S. citizenship, but it still seems wrong to me when other people have to work so hard to get it. One further thing. The Mexican gangs have more armed men than the Mexican army.

"maybe one day i'll do the whole trail" uh.. joe.. may take longer than a day... i think i would feel a loss of freedom if border patrol stopped me all the time to know who i was and where i was going
