In the first place, gay identity is a social construct that has it's roots formed from sexual oppression. It is also a very eurocentric world view. In many cultures, homosexuality is not othered, and it is seen as a bigger part of a normative spectrum of human behavior. Another way to look at it is, the sexual act does not necessarily define the person's identity, because everyone is equal, regardless of their sexual behavior. Please don't forget that the very reason why gay identity matters so much in this society, is because homosexual behavior was deemed corrupt by the church which had used to be the authority on human behavior in this society. All cultures do not have a Christian based society and homosexual behavior is very normative in some societies that are homophobic as well. Sexual identity differs from one society to the next. The most important thing is that we accept people for who they say that they are and that they do the same for us.

This is just splitting hairs at this point, if you are a guy who enjoys sex with man and the idea of sex with other men arouses you, you are either gay or bisexual, regardless of whether you feel attraction for the body shape of other men or not, otherwise the sex would not arouse your interest. Considering that sexual orientation is a gradient, so if you feel bothered by the label "bi" you can skip it, that is not going to change who you are, you are still going to be a little bit gay and that is ok.

Sexuality is about the laws of attraction. No heterosexual male by definition of the word heterosexual can have sex with another male, if by definition they won't be turned on by another male. I'm so glad you're talking about this. For years I was so confused about my sexuality, and I thought I was the only one in my situation. I'm attracted to women in ALL heterosexual ways, but I was also always curious about sex with men and ultimately tried it in my thirties. The confusion often comes from the fact that we made a mistake by regrouping sexual orientation and romantic orientation under the same words: hetero/bi/pan/homosexual. Wrongly thinking that they should always be the same, when asexual and/or aromantic people have taught us that they can indeed be different. In your case for example, you could say that you are bisexual but heteroromantic if you want.

As a bi guy, that just sounds like heteroromantic bisexual who hasn’t accepted their sexuality. Also, I think it’s very difficult to define romantic attraction, because while you can be 99% certain you aren’t romantically attracted to the same sex, you just want to have sex with them or be friends with benefits, there’s always the creeping doubt that you just haven’t found the guy who’s 100% on your wavelength and you could date them. I don’t think it’s internalised homophobia, because if it were, you wouldn’t even try having sex with the same sex. Personally, I don’t feel the desire to kiss/cuddle with/hold hands with guys, I can, I tried, but I don’t get the enjoyment out of it. I just feel uncomfortable when that’s happening (cuddling specifically), and is something I would much rather do with a girl. I can say with absolute certainty that this is completely accurate. I am straight but have checked out the other side of things as well and while I have zero attraction to any males and the thought of romance with a man is completely repulsive to me, sex with men looks completely different to me and it appeals to me because of its naughty and taboo quality it has. To me, eye candy can only be female and the male body is built more like a truck than a work of art that is a female. Enjoying sex with men does not mean a man is gay and in fact, most men end up curious about it at the very least and a very large number of them go out and experiment in secret. Some find they like it and continue and others decide it wasn't good after all and never do it again. It can be appealing for different reasons too such as having a wife who likes to watch such things. I'm not buying it. Sexuality is a capability ... not what you do or what you think about your abilities. Society conditions men to believe that many values in life are not available in same sex relationships. It's easy to accept that they aren't because society attempts to harm you for engaging in same sex relationships. On account of this, if a man is bisexual, it's easy for him to convince himself that he's not into other men. The converse, many gay men strive for a long time to convince themselves that they're bisexual, making it easier for them to accept themselves. But in the end, if a man likes sex with other men, he's either gay or bisexual ... which I believe actually are the only viable options. Lack of experience, or even lack of thinking about it, does not let you out of having the capability of same sex activity (as so much of life demonstrates.)

Yep, exactly. I have a long time sexual relationship with the same guy for many years. I find the sex an erotic change, but in no way do I look at men in the way I look at women. Hey I would definitely let go of sticking to regit self definitions. According to Mc Kinsey there is a spectrum of bisexual/fluent feelings between gay and straight. From most of the studies on male and female sexuality there does seem to be more of a biological aversion aspect in male sexual orientation in general, even in homosexual men who can have a strong aversion to sex with a woman, (because they still have a male sexual system even though they have a different sexual orientation).. Female sexuality is more fluid that males generally. Women are less likely to be repelled by the thought of sex with the same sex and a more likely than are straight men to report homoerotic fantasies. Gay men are less likely to report heterosexual fantasies also than women are to report homosexual fantasies. This maybe because natural selection exerts different pressures on males and females. In virtually every mammalian species there is male-male competition. in most mammalian species most males who reach reproductive age never get to copulate even once, while virtually every female that reaches reproductive age will find someone to donate sperm to her. Also in many mammalian species mothers can cooperate in rearing offsping at little cost. A study compared effects of erotic and non-erotic depictions of male-male intimacy on the experience of anger in heterosexual men. Data came from three independent laboratory studies designed to elicit anger in response to erotic or non-erotic depictions of male-male and male-female intimacy. All participants completed a measure of sexual prejudice and anger was assessed before and after viewing the erotic or non-erotic video. Among high-prejudiced men, viewing erotic and non-erotic intimate behavior between two men elicited significant increases in anger relative to viewing comparable behavior between a male-female dyad. In contrast, among low-prejudiced men, viewing erotic, but not non-erotic, intimate behavior between two men elicited significant increases in anger relative to viewing comparable behavior between a male-female dyad. These studies have showed that even among men who were low-prejudiced they still had significant anger increases when watching two men being intimate, which say's to me that there is some deeply ingrained prejudice even in men who claim otherwise, maybe even with them not conciously acknowledging. Men tend to be more visual and category specific when it comes to their arousal. Research has also shown on-average sex differences in brain activation during sexual arousal. When men and women are brought into the laboratory and are shown pornography during an fMRI scan, visual areas of the brain are more activated in men, and regions associated with inhibition and emotional processing are more activated in women.. In one study, the nucleus accumbens, a brain region associated with feelings of pleasure, was shown to activate when straight men looked at attractive female faces. Earlier studies have found similar results for patterns of brain activity. For example, parts of the brain involved in reward and emotion are more strongly activated when straight men and lesbian women look at female faces, and when straight women and gay men see male faces. The same patterns apply when people smell chemicals that probably act as human pheromones. When it comes to heterosexual and homosexual men functional MRI has shown differences in patterns of brain activation between gay and straight men when viewing gay and straight pornography. The network of brain regions that are activated when gay men look at gay porn is the same network activated when straight men look at straight porn, in regions like the thalamus, which regulates sexual behavior, and the anterior cingulate, which regulates emotion. Men typically display significantly greater physiological responses to sexual stimuli depicting members of their preferred gender category and stated sexual orientation. Stimulus features necessary to evoke genital arousal are much less specific in women than in men. heterosexual men are more aroused by female than by male sexual stimuli, whereas homosexual men show the opposite pattern. The correspondences of sexual arousal indices were similar for Heterosexual and homosexual men . These findings are in line with other research suggesting that some aspects of the neurological organization of male sexual arousal are independent of sexual orientation, and therefore expressed similarly in heterosexual and homosexual men. Some homosexual women were marginally more aroused to the same sex than the other sex. In addition, the correspondence of their arousal indices were more male-typical, that is, stronger, than for other women. Male-typical sexual arousal in females is likely be due to elevated exposure to prenatal androgen that affects postnatal masculinized behaviours). These prenatal influences are possibly responsible for why homosexual women are more male-typical than heterosexual women in other ways, including their motor behaviours, voice patterns, physical appearance, and self-concepts . The most masculine-behaving women may therefore have most male typical sexual responses. Multiple studies on mens and womens sexuality and arousal patterns over the years has shown that men tend to be very category specific, if they're into women, they really like women and not into guys.. if they're into guys they're really into guys and not into women. Female sexuality is much more fluid than men. Thats why bisexuality is more common in women and there is more gay men than bisexual men while it's the other way around in women. It''s also why there is more heterosexual men than heterosexual women. That's why paraphilias(unusual sexual interests) are more common in men. Research suggests that paraphilia is maybe akin to a sexual orientation. It's the same idea conceptually as being gay, it's someone's preference and it can't be changed and it's with them from a very early on. With the sexual orientation women tend to be more flexible with their sexual preferences. So if they have a partner who's very kinky they might be into whatever he's into, but then if she's with someone who's less kinky it might not be as much of a problem. Whereas if it's a man who's really into something, if his partner's not into it he's always going to be into it, he's just gonna have to hide it Women's genital arousal is an automatic response to sexual stimuli, whereas men's genital arousal is dependent upon stimulus features specific to their sexual interests. Women showed little category specificity on either the genital or the subjective measure. Women experienced strong genital arousal to both male and female sexual stimuli. category-specific pattern, demonstrating sexual arousal patterns play fundamentally different roles in male and female sexuality. For most men, regardless of their sexual orientation, the relationship between their sexual arousal indices was substantially stronger than for most women . These findings were consistent with the literature on sex differences in the agreement of genital arousal with subjective arousal. In addition, physiological sexual arousal and sexual orientation were more strongly linked in men than women. It's hypothesized that males might have evolved to coordinate their sexual arousal and attraction indices more strongly than women because it aids them in building their sexual orientation towards relevant sexual targets. Perhaps, then, men’s, more than women’s, reactions are an integrated part of their sexual response system that involves the synchronization of other aspects of their sexual arousal. These factors could include, for example, the activation of the visual cortex or limbic system the time spent viewing relevant stimuli, or their temperature regulation during sexual arousal. For bisexual men, the coordination of arousal indices was weaker, thus, more female-typical than for other men. Hence, present findings for bisexual men indicated that if the general sex differences in the correspondence of arousal indices are reversed within one sex, it affects more than one aspect of the expression of sexual arousal. Bisexual men were, however, in their physiological reactions not particularly responsive to their less arousing sex; yet, this finding fell within the expected range of previously reported effects. Hence, in general, bisexual men responded stronger to their less arousing sex than other men. Moreover, bisexual men were less responsive in their physiological reactions to their more arousing sex(for some women and some men) compared to other men. There was a similar finding by measuring men’s arousal via pupil dilation in bisexual men in regard to lowered physiological responses to the preferred (or more arousing) sex. Bisexual mens sexual arousal was similar to heterosexual women, they have bisexual physiological responses in the sense that they are somewhat (but less) aroused to either sex. Consequently, they are less discriminative in their sexual arousal than either heterosexual or homosexual men. Women’s variable sexual arousal, as compared to men’s, could be due to the fact that female sexual attraction is more strongly affected by situational, cultural, and environmental circumstances. If bisexual men are more female-typical than other men, then, perhaps, they are more influenced by these external factors, resulting in a less specific arousal pattern. Such variability within bisexual men could in part explain inconsistent findings for their sexual arousal to men and women. Notably, bisexual men’s subjective responses were more consistent with their sexual orientation than were their physiological responses). Because subjective arousal and sexual orientation were assessed by self-report, it is possibly that participants matched their responses to these measures. Physiological sexual reactions, however, are likely less under participants control than are their subjective responses, and can therefore lead to stronger discrepancies with someone’s self-identified sexual orientation.

Dr. Kort, You hit the nail on the head about straight men being attracted to gay sex not the men. I found this out the hard way with a married man that visits St Catharines Ontario for his job. One of the things that attracted me to my husband was his "erotic orientation"... I admit, i fetishised him which was problematic. This is such an absolute hairpin difference on the spectrum. While it seems like your drawing clear defined rules.... You putting your own ego and rules in front of someone else's journey. The main problem with identity labels is that identity constantly changes. Fine tuning it like your attempting to implies that there is in fact ... An answer to reach the correct label. While that may be true, you either validating or invalidating someone's identity based off of these things has the potential to be harmful I think.

@@JoeKort I can appreciate that. The actual difference is something extremely hard to pin. I was absolutely watching the video and am not just a hater. I just think that perspective out of 1000 will be useful to about ten and harmfull to about 20. It is very possible that someone struggling with their sexuality or half closeted comes across this video...and due to polarizing language recedes back into the closet for fear of being a fake bisexual or gay. I absolutely don't think it's your intentions but your word choice instead.
