@@gouldingsteve So supply and demand and a free labor market determines my value. I can demand greater compensation than many because I have skills and experience they do not. NBA players are the best 450 basketball players on Earth and their profession is entertainment. They share revenue with the ownership of the franchises. This, really, isn't any different than some of the highest paid actors and actresses, or musicians, etc. No one is forced to go to an NBA game or watch it on TV. Nobody is forced to buy merchandise. If I'm good enough to help your franchise win the Championship and make extra money why shouldn't I explore your signing a guaranteed contract with me? After all actors get paid an amount based on their contract even if the studio decides not to ever put the movie into a theater. They STILL get paid. This is no different. Now if I REFUSE to play when I'm healthy and able to? Sure that is a different story and usually your 'guaranteed money' requires you to make yourself available to the team in order to play.

Are you all slow or what is wrong with you? Embiid openly shared the story of naming his son after his late brother, expressing his desire to leave a legacy. As a public figure, he’s made this narrative accessible through his own words in interviews and articles. It’s unreasonable for him to be upset when others reference it-especially when it’s done respectfully and without a negative spin. The only criticism here is about his perceived lack of authenticity and commitment, which many would argue is simply the reality.
@jiyghkjsduhjkbkbАй бұрын
Exactly, if it was mentioned in a comment saying how good his MVP year was he wouldn't have had an issue as its clearly being used to show how important it is for him. It's only when he gets called out for not playing even though he wanted to leave a legacy for them, that it is seen as disrespectful.
@shanetaylor761Ай бұрын
So by your logic once and athlete has the gall to mention a child or passed away family member, it's open season for reporters to talk about them in reference to basketball? It's called having class and respect for others. Straight up mentioning someone's son and dead brother has nothing to do with basketball and i don't know who would even want to do that. Just the fact that information is accessible doesn't mean it's ok to twist into a narrative that you think will get alot of views. Him writing that was a huge disaster for a reason. He didn't add those details and make the story more interesting for readers. It just caused his own job deleting his stuff, having to rewrite the intro, getting semi exposed in an email, and having embiid literally threaten him. I'm a Knicks fan and lowkey love when he's injured, complaining, and getting heat for it. It's a beautiful cycle. But wrong is wrong and that reporter is a pos lol.

Horrible take Mike. The reporter mentioning Embiid's honorable motivation to be great was not a dig. NOT mentioning them would have been the dig. Joel's motivations couldn't be more honorable. Pointing out a flaw in Joel's approach to accomplishing that goal is truly constructive criticism - which is a job of the media. The sad truth is...Joel can only complete the grueling NBA season by playing less explosive and taking fewer risks -- or in other words, avoid MVP pursuits and focus on being there when his TEAM needs him most. I think THAT is why Joel got so emotional. And he might have not even realized it (we're all human) but perhaps his pursuit was more about personal glory than he realized.

About the remark “Marcus what ever his name is” I can reach several conclusions: One is feigning not knowing who Marcus Hayes is was intentional, a slight. Hayes has been a sports columnist in Philly for years (since 2010 as a columnist, joined Philly Daily News in 1996). Or, Hayes isn’t memorable because the print media has sunk so low relative to today’s socials and video media. Embid is of another generation having been born only two years before Hayes started his career. Yeah, hasn’t gone according to plan. If I recall correctly “The Process” had consistently somehow drafted players in the first round who miss the first season or two due to rehab. After a few years of futility and filling the tank, I lost interest. Allen Iverson, yes “practice” was an issue, but came to play. Averaged about 65 games per reg season over 14 years (69 first 10 season).

I don't see a problem with bringing up his son and saying Embiid wants to leave a legacy for him, but he could have gotten his point of disappointment across without bringing up his brother.

These players really got to learn to step up their "pay-back" game! All Embid had to do was hire a PI, and have him research & investigate the reporters entire family. Then get a "burner-acct" and PUBLICLY EXPOSED it all. Expose everyone in his family, from his Grandmother to last baby born. My "get-backs" are always extremely VICIOUS! #nomercy

Look I’m not even a Philly fan but EMBIID is superstar mvp yes a crybaby but mentioning a deceased family member to someone that they are related to it that’s fucked up ngl But him saying “I’ve done way to much for the fucking city” Now that was 😂😂😂😂😂

shots needs to get fired. AND THESE SHOTS CAME FROM EMBIID HIMSELF, this columnist just quoted this big baby out. dont see any problem with that.

Mike you are wrong, Embiid should retire if there is nothing he can do about it. The reporter asked a valid question to cut through the fluff Embiid tried to sale about his family. He has not done much for Philly and they need to send him his walking papers.

I dislike Joel and think he's the dirtiest player in the league. But throwing his dead brother and child in his face on a 'news story' is disgusting and crossed several lines.

Well, Embiid is disgrace. If someone do they job like Embiid, they dont have a job for long. 76s pay Embiid HUGE money and get nothing in return. And Embiid never can do anything in playoffs anyway. 76s like waste money i guess.

I don’t feel a line was crossed Joel mentioned his brother and son as motivation to the public. You saying anything publicly it can be used to uplift or bring you down. I believe he was trying say you are doing them both a disservice by not coming into the season in shape and ready to role every year. World just soft.

you don’t mention a mans family as motivation if you don’t know him personally. it’s not about being soft, it’s about respecting boundaries
@jiyghkjsduhjkbkbАй бұрын
@@alexagwunobi2435 So according to you i wouldnt be able to say 'Embiid has left a great legacy for his son, who is named after his brother who tragically passed away, by winning the 2025 mvp and sweeping everyone in the playoffs' in that hypothetical am i being disrespectful because after all i did mention a mans family as motivation?
@ZL1pegasusАй бұрын
@ he didn’t mention his family as motivation, Joel did. And he didn’t say anything bad about his brother or son. Y’all being soft. He used Joel own words against him. That’s like you saying I’m going to improve and be better for my kids and you don’t do it. So someone says hey I thought you was doing this for your kids when you going to show up.
