16:53 this is the best argument in defense of the film. You may dislike it, but there's so much great and creative work in terms of design, costumes, set decorations, music, etc. that blowing the whole film off is simply not appreciating good work. Yes, it's colorful and childish, but it's fun and the story makes sense even if it's simple.

Batman Forever is harmless fun but lacks deeper depth because of the removed Batman subplot scenes about him losing his memory and finding he needs Batman again. Jim Carry is funny from start to finish in Batman Forever and Val Kilmer is fine. Batman and Robin though suffer from the problem sequels get called excess they take everything that was fun and entertaining from Forever that worked in Forever and overdoes it in B And R. Batman and Robin was trying to capture the spirit of the 6os show but also trying to go even bigger with what worked in Forever. What you end up with is pretty much a movie for dumb children. Batman 1989 and Returns are Burton doing his take a Dark slightly crazy loner Batman that is only slightly less crazy than the villains he chases. Then we got Nolan's Dark realistic take and Snyders more comic book extreme dark take. Now we have Matt Reeves's upcoming Detective thriller noir type, Batman.

It saddens me how he was treated after Batman & Robin and yet he still made some extraordinary films. He merely just wanted to entertain an audience and I always enjoyed his projects. He is so complimentary and was quite a positive person to his fellow cast and crew in his work. He will always be one of my favourite directors of all time.

He’s very arrogant! He replaced Billy Dee Williams, had no concept of continuity, destroyed the amazing set designs of the previous films, overused CGI, turned it into a comedy with no depth … watch forever after watching returns. His work is awful
@boomstickcritique9023 жыл бұрын
@@onyourjackjones Returns isn't a great movie either it's good but nothing on the first movie. As for arrogant I don't see how that is he was hired and asked by the studio to make a lighter family-friendly Batman movie he did what he was paid for and even spoke to Burton about doing the project beforehand who said he didn't care and just to do your own thing with it. Billy Dee would not have done any better in the role of Two-Face in Forever than Jones it would have been the exact same thing he was replaced because he was no longer that famous by the time the third movie came along. There is nothing wrong with making a more family-friendly more light-hearted Batman movie Batman has existed in many different forms for decades even Burton himself liked the Adam West show and never cared about the comics. You can see many tributes to the Adam West show in the Burton movies except Burton added a darker tone to the films so it doesn't feel the same. It doesn't matter if you want to make a light-hearted family-friendly Batman or a darker more serious one what matters is the execution you may not personally like a more light-hearted Batman but that doesn't make a more light-hearted version bad by that effect.

When I was a kid I remember eating up these Schumacher Batman films (I loved them!) even though now I realize how awfully campy they were and I don't want anymore productions like these, I can't help feel like in a way, those 2 Schumacher Batman films with all their camp might have been kind of a necessary part of the process to go from Tim Burton's Batman to the more polished and mature interpretations we have today from Nolan and Reeves (and Snyder). Like now that we've done that sort of camp and tried that, and also got these 3 newer iterations we know what works and what doesn't, in the future we can revisit and build on some of the visual aesthetics Schumacher developed (which he expanded on from Burton- and elements which have since found there way into the comics), we can also feel confident in using some of those high concept Bat-vehicles paired with the more cohesive scripts we've come to appreciate too. JS's films are now my less favourite Batman films but I still LOVE a lot of the style he brought to the franchise story, the Gotham he painted was (more than anyone else's) batshit crazy in the best way- Dark and Gothic but also vibrant, modern, gaudy, and lived-in, sprawling, and gaudy and busy- it remains very interesting to me

I'm glad Keaton didn't continue on as Batman. Joel's take was stylistically different and in tone different than Burton's, and so it would seem odd to have the same actor playing Batman.

@@boomstickcritique902 when I found out Matt Reeves Batman movie was detective based, I banged my hands together because the detective side is something that has been kind of absent from the movies
