I think that's the idea though. I enjoy these movies because I was a kid when they came out. I didn't care about plot or acting. I just enjoyed seeing Batman and Robin. I don't know it for fact, but being in my 20s when the Schumacher ones came out, the campy colors and all didn't bother me or my friends of the same age, and it didn't seem to bother little kids. But I suspect the ones who really hated it were teenagers at the time who felt like it was some step backward from the more mature Phantasm movie and BTAS of the previous few years, and who believed bashing the Adam West TV show was an essential rite of passage.
@darthbigred22 Жыл бұрын
@@75aces97 I'd be 11 when this came out, I didn't see it in theaters back then. I do recall them re-relasing the Seal song for it, which the kids now think was made for the film. But you are correct after BTAS the only way forward was Nolan or the Batman stuff. Plus Riddler and Two Face were so much better in BTAS and I would have rather have had that over Carey, at his peak, being Carey does Frank Groschen. All they had to do was slow the films down and just do Two Face from the animated series or Riddler as the actual intellectual threat to Batman. But hey Nicole Kidman and Drew Barrymore probably at their peaks of hotness in this film.

Kev is so right-on. Batman refers to him as Two Face when he's talking about him, but he calls him Harvey when he's talking to him, it adds a little personal touch because they have history. Batman usually never refers to his villains by their stage names when he's talking directly to them, except for those who lack a birth name like Joker and Bane.

20:16 “Yeah he did-he [Joel Schumacher] was not a comic book guy.” That’s actually such a misconception, Joel Schumacher actually WAS a huge Batman fan, more than Tim Burton, and he came on the project with the intent of carrying on the dark, gothic, Deco-Noire style of Tim Burton’s first two films. However Warner Bros. was still unwinding from the backlash of Batman Returns and made Schumacher make the film lighter and friendlier. Schumacher had also wanted to make a Batman: Year One film, but was shelved after the reception of Batman & Robin.

of the 80s-90s era.. the Batman movies actually go in order of good to BAD.. and batman forever completely flips the switch from gothic.. to campy action, and goes even further in Batman and Robin.. they go away from the dark sets in the first 2 and throw in day glo.. plus the villains are even more played for laughs. If Jones had played it straight.. and Carrey brought it down a level.. and played it a bit more sinister.. it actually had a shot to be a great movie..

I never got why people dismissed forever, I really enjoyed it. I was a huge Batman fan because of Burton's films and loved Returns. I loved the first because it was dark and edgy, I liked the second because it had heart, and liked forever because it was bright and different. Even though I was a fan I did dismiss Batman and Robin and you know it is bad when a ten year old fan says they are not even trying anymore. Begins was amazing, dark Knight almost lost me but Joker kept me, and Rises was good but to be expected close behind Knight.

Hey Mr. Kevin Smith. I enjoy your comedic (negative) criticism of this film because Your Funny. I on the other hand enjoy this movie and even (Clooney's Batman and Robin) because I see the 4 original films as a time line, An evolution if you will, of Bruce Wayne as a person. He starts off as Michael Keaton... a weird loner. Then he grows into the good looking Val Kilmer who's haunted yet heroic. Ultimately Bruce Wayne grows into the grey haired suave Dr. George Clooney.... In these films we go from a creepy (Gothic) Dark Knight - to a colorful (Campy) Family friendly Superhero! These films inspire! :)

To think THIS COULD HAVE BEEN; BATMAN CONTINUES Michael Keaton read the script "THIS IS CRAP. THE FUCK TIM???" Mike calls Tim Burton "Batman 3???" That's HOW Tim Burton found out Warner Bros. fired him. "BATMAN FOREVER??? Sounds like something one would write in a yearbook FOREVER? Gross." - Tim Burton

Oddly, Kevin Smith seems more forgiving of this movie than Batman Returns.

+Bill Hiers he has an everlasting grudge against Tim Burton because Burton rejected his script for Superman Lives...okay fine, not many people appreciate the art of Batman Returns but I just can't stand how this guy criticises the 1989 movie "Batman", the epitome of Batman movies.

***** Then why does criticising The Dark Knight pisses off most people?
