One of Thai culture's most important ceremonies takes place when a young man brings merit and honor to his family by presenting himself to be a monk.
Short-term Ordination is somewhat unique to Thailand (among countries of Buddhist practice), and it is a huge honor today to be welcomed as a guest. We are joining our friends' families in the small town of Pratai, Thailand, we would like to welcome you as well!
In this video you will see many parts of this special ceremony (listen to some incredibly cool live music), and join us as we learn as many details as we can about Nong Tae (Naak Tae) and his monk ordination experience.

Soooooo much good in this video. Beautiful ceremony ( my favorite part was the respect for the grand mom), the fish looked amazing, wonderful music, and the ending party looked to be a blast 😊🌼🌼🌸🌸🌸🌼🌼🌼🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺

Glad you enjoyed it Kelly, and I always enjoy reading your messages of positivity, thank you for taking the time :) Always!! Yes that fish, haha you got it, fish was my favorite as well (but they had this awesome steamed tofu with a simple sauce, it was definitely runner up! dont know if I put that in the video...), but ok - you were also right to point out how important Grandma is to this whole day!!! She and her daughter (mother of the young man), basically this ceremony is for them, almost as much as it is for the young man, so it is great to see the respect given on this day :) : )

This was quite a party, I am still possibly not quite returned to 'normal' life yet, even a week later! 10 hours of dancing and talking, I wonder which takes more energy (that, or a 10 hour bike ride like the previous weekend). Much love Florencia, hope to catch you on Sunday morning for another livestream, until then, be well, be good! Hugs from both Li and myself.

Thank you Alexander, yes I did end up missing several things because I didn’t realize he had only talked about them from the live stream, on the phone, going through the videos I was asking myself “where is that part, wait where is this... oh yeah...” But it still worked out, without Li I would not have been able to put this video together so she really helped make it possible to have both the live stream and the KZbin video. Thank you for watching and see you very soon for our next Livestream :-) I am training with much more focused and soul, and Thailand being so warm and sunny it’s really hard to train anytime besides the morning.… But mornings are so our best for the live stream so… I have to choose my times wisely for the next two months :) but ok ok - this week or next for the next one!! ❤️ thanks for the greetings as well, big high five and hugs to all four of you!!

A great response Tara I am with you 100%. - honestly I almost pinned your comment, I just think I don’t want to put any (I don’t know what to say, pressure?) When the video is obviously full of religious significance already … But, I am totally with you and this is a huge reason why I came to Thailand even in the first place. I have so much respect for the practice really that is Buddhism, I would tell most people that I find so much similarity between Christianity and Judaism, I don’t think of either as a religion, much more just a lifestyle that can be followed and adapted across so many cultures. I always wondered about my own school, how much of a decision do you think your school put into not teaching much about other religions?

@@JoelsTastyRide I don't think it was intentional. They had a program to follow and did so. I was blessed with a family that taught us about accepting differences. Morning Joel, that looks like fun. We aren't allowed to have mass gatherings here in the States, Covid 19 cases are really high. Good to see that it isn't affecting Thailand to the extreme that is has with other countries.

Hello Joel, thank you from Ned and Janet living in Mallorca Spain. Yet another great video of something most people outside of Thailand would never see or experience without your help. Do you know anything about the musicians playing at the celebration they are fantastic. All the best to you both, your friends and families and stay well.

Hello JB, nice seeing how warmth you're with people. Even with the so called PLANdemic, they still interacted with a Farang with no limitation. For sure the Thais are great welcoming people. One thing I admired about your Vlogs is the in depth and explicit explanation. Very fluent, educative, straight and clear. May Mark Wien's portion be just your starting point.

Hi Joel! What do you call the green 3-string "guitar" ??? Because of the regular 6-string pickups it looks like something the player created himself!
@JoelsTastyRide
@JoelsTastyRide 3 жыл бұрын
Peter! Right on, great question - this is an Esaan instrument called a 'Pin.' This modern version is electric, with pickups, but its a traditional instrument and a key part in this type of music. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phin
