To explain the transitional sunglasses (regular glasses that turn into sunglasses), it helps those people who have to wear glasses 24/7 be comfortable and not have to swap between two pairs of glasses all the time just to have vision. I have oculocutaneous albinism, which means not only is my vision very poor, but im extremely sensitive to light, and even being outside in the summer is enough to make my eyes burn very uncomfortably and large levels of light actually make it really difficult to see at all. By wearing transitional glasses growing up, i could be at school and learn and exist comfortably in and out of the classroom or in PE class or whatever without having to look like a moron wearing sunglasses at school. Mind, by the time i got to senior i stopped wearing transitional glasses because I was really self concious about them, but that did make my life more difficult and my general ability to see much lower. Nowdays because Im not in school and I can choose to just stay inside the majority of the time it doesnt bother me as much, but they really helped being a kid with extreme photosensitivity so i could exist the same way as everyone else without my eyes feeling like they were on fire and being able to see more clearly. Just a moment for education, they arent fashion statements theyre useful pieces of equipment for people with disabilities ❤

But its also important to consider not everybody understands the jokes and may take that and continue to mock it henseforth, so with things like this i think its important to provide a bit of educational background so everyone else watching can understand. I by no means was trying to be Karen-y about their joke, because theyre right the glasses do look a bit silly and thats why I stopped wearing them, but theyre still important pieces if equiptment for disabled people and raising awareness is always a great thing to do :)

I came here to say this. Transitions Lenses are almost essential for people who need sunglasses to protect their eyes but cannot wear contacts or don't wanna wear the (admittedly silly looking) clip-on lenses, and/or have to fiddle with putting them on and taking them off constantly. The 'Transition' effect is much faster with the newest versions of the lens, and speaking as a severely myopic user of Transitions, they meaningfully improve my time outdoors, especially in places like the beach where sun reflection is high. Even if Joe is in fact joking about them as a fashion statement here, Transitions Lenses were very much created as a way to improve peoples' lives, and they help a lot. The video was still hilarious, though. 😂

I bought my daughter transition lenses in her glasses because at school they are in and out so often. Half their classes are outside when it's nice out, and every recess they go out, so instead of buying her two pairs of prescription glasses and spending double, I bought transition lenses and then she doesn't have to take care of 2 pairs either. I have a pair of the zippered pants. They're great for camping or hiking, where you may need to adjust for the weather. Long in the morning, shorts in the afternoon, and back to long in the evening. I also have transition glasses. It's not the light level, but rather, it's the uv level that makes them tint. Fluorescent lights used to make them active, but it's not as much of a problem. You get used to using them. They don't work in a car though.

Honestly, zip off pant/shorts were popular in Saskatchewan, Canada because it can be below freezing in the morning and frying hot in the afternoon. It gave you the option of changing into shorts without having to completely change your pants.

Hey Joe I got to vouch for the half zip pants 😂😂 I work outside for a living and they are great for hiking in woods that are very thorny on a hot day and you just want to be in shorts. You just zip off the pant legs after working in the woods, and they become shorts. Also, they are great for tick season. Since the ticks slide off the fabric better than they would in jeans. Hey Joe I'm a hiker and I'd be happy to tell you that those zip pants that unzip into shorts are for hiking. Hikers often need to pack light, and that means you could have only one pair of pants, and that's the ones on you, so it's nice to be able to turn them into shorts when things get too hot or when you're crossing a river/stream without even needing to take these pants off. Hope this helps. But it is beyond me why anyone would wear these as a fashion statement, they're purely practical with zero style.
