Joey Bada$$ dropped this song at the perfect time when people were saying NY hip-hop is dying, while everyone was copying the same trendy/catchy sound of the time, Joey released something that brought hope back to hip-hop let alone NYC hip-hop that old school beats and lyricism still exist. Classic track and is solely the reason I’m a Joey Bada$$ fan til this day 🙌🔥🔥🔥. Also great to know Joey is doing his thing as an actor now which he’s not bad at doing, just talented all around 💯

i see 1999 as more of a classic. B4DA$$ will be a lot harder and with dark heacy beats. 1999 fits the name of a classic better. shows what we's capable of. he's only just started to experiment with a new style for his debut album and it works
@MrMiki30010 жыл бұрын
Alex Smith Depends how you understand the word 'classic' when it is applied to a hip hop album. I see it as an album that is so good, that it quickly gains the respect and presitge of a 'classic' album i.e. a old and well known album e.g. illmatic, low end theory etc. I think you're understanding it in terms of the music reminding you of the old school boom bap style hip hop, which B4.DA.$$. defo has, expect that it is given a much more modern twist as opposed to 1999 which was a lot more conservative. Imo, the fact that Joey is taking the old school classic sound and morphing it with a personal and new school touch is far more respectable than just spitting over old school type beats which have already been heard (not saying that 1999 is bad, its one of the best mixtapes I've heard, I just believe this album is gonna genuinly FUCK SHIT UP from all sides). This is gonna be some Illmatic type shit, watch it

I first heard this song as a high school senior back in 2012 when it first came out. This song introduced me to Joey Bada$$ and eventually the rest of Pro.Era. Which then introduced me to Flatbush Zombies and The Underachievers. New York hip-hop is great, man.

He’s definitely an artist who’s has grown with me with the likes of Cole, Kendrick, Earl, etc. and I’m happy these guys are just successful enough for me to go back and reminisce on their music. Miss them days !! Much respect to Joey for going GLOBAL !

@silabelll6 жыл бұрын
Kristian Kolev that's not what i meant, both of them stole the beat from Freddie Joachim without asking him. At least, i haven't heard either of them reference Freddie. If you know about either of them mentioning him for making the beat as an album release, i would like to know about it. (by the way, Freddie Joachim made this beat for himself, and the track is titled waves.)

Had to come back to this classic after J Cole dropped his version. I don't know if it's because I listened to this so much that I became bias toward it, but this will forever be Joey's beat. Not to take away from J Cole's version cause he was spitting some real shit on there and I like the little chorus he added, but Joey's flow, lyrics, video matched this beat so flawlessly that made this the perfect song. Could listen to this for hours on end. After Cole, no one should rap on this ever again. Joey murdered it and Cole buried it. Period.
