The reason why Joey hasn't been on JRE in a while is the same reason The Church of What's Happening Now ended.Joey was moving; so Joey and Lee had to split cause Lee didn't wanna move to Jersey, or rather, Joey didn't wanna move him because there was nothing for Lee there according to him, so yeah. I'm sure they could have kept it going if Lee moved to Jersey with Jeoy but, they both also agreed that it was just time, too. Almost a decade of podcasts, a lot of which I haven't even listened to yet, just endless podcasts! So I think they made the right call. 🙂 If they really wanted to keep it going Lee would have setup a virtual setup for the show probably. It definitely wouldn't have been the same, though. They wanted to end it anyways so they took Joey's move as an opportunity.👍🏻

Action Park was a madhouse 😂 I remember a guy limping out with his legs all scrapped up from the lay down sled ride. I did that 40 foot cliff dive like 5 times in a row. Kids today have no idea how much fun they missed out on.

I remember a kid who decided to do some weird backflip off the 40ft cliff and landed on his neck. Bunch of paramedics arrived and everyone was just on the sidelines in shock. That was the only serious injury I've ever seen at action park back in the early 2000s. Joey makes a good point about kids being babies nowadays, last time I went to the park a few years ago, helmets were required on the Colorado rapids slide... shit when I used to ride that our skulls collided on a regular basis and we're okay.

I remember Action Park, the cliff swing was insane. You would barely not hit a rock on the wall on the way down and it was such a huge drop it felt like falling into cement when you impacted the water. It was a death trap. I remember skiing Vernon Valley a few years later and seeing the old rides covered in snow and laughing about what a house of horrors that place was.

I did the cliff dive at Action Park. I was in my early 30's and when I got to the edge I saw it was REALLY far down. I was super nervous. I was hesitating but there was a looooong line of little kids from the Bronx behind me and they were all yelling "LET'S GO! C'MON MISTER!! JUMP!!". And so I did. I had my arms at my sides. But not as tightly as I thought and when I hit the water, it slammed up under my arms into my pits and I went DOWN! HARD!! All of the air in my lungs shot out and I was at the bottom of a 16ft deep pool. I remember trying to swim to the surface, STUNNED and getting frantic for air as I couldn't get to the surface quick enough. I was BEAT! I made my way to the edge, the pool depth graduated so the shallowest part was like a beach. I laid there SPENT! CRAZY!!!

The first time I went to Action Park, the first ride I went on is the one you see it 3:56 seconds in this video. It was at the end of August, after a heat wave, and the water was about 3 feet deep. I went down the slide hit the pool and thought “Wow they use heated water here! Feels good!” The next thing I did was the 25 foot cliff jump that was fed by mountain streams. Holy shit that was cold! I screamed underwater, which was a bad move because I think I sank about 12 feet down from the jump, and almost didn’t have enough air to make it to the surface.

They have one of those underwater cave fed springs in Florida. We went there in the middle of July when it was in the high 90's and that water never got above 35! It was painful! I tried going in but only made it waste deep and had to get out because it just chilled your muscles and bones. What a paradox! You have a swimming hole in the middle of a heat wave, and the water is too cold to go swimming!

It's why in the documentary, they stated that they had active lifeguards in the pool cliff because people that were hitting the ice brick water and going into shock! I used to go all the time to Action Park in the late 80's and early 90's. I wasn't aware of the dangers until seeing this great documentary.

This made me finally watch that documentary today. It's definitely worth it. I'm so glad I got to be part of that last generation of free range kids who went out to die. Another funny thing about that doc, you don't see a single fat person in it. The ones that are close are the ones people say "eat something!" at today. Look around a Waterpark these days and try to find a thin person. Good luck.

My entire youth I wanted to go to Action Park, the TV commercials had anyone with a sense of adventure hooked instantly. I had also skied at Vernon Valley and saw some of the rides under the snow. The hope was there for many Springs of a summer trip to Action Park. Finally, I'm 17 years old, have a few friends, my own car, and we're off to go ! Two and a half hours into the 3 hour drive, on a windy, two lane, mountain road, we come around a bend, music blaring, laughs all around, and the cars ahead are dead stopped !....BAM ! Action Park dreams and Cutlass Supreme, Crushed ! Thanks again to my friends who put their Action Park money toward my car repair so we could get home, THANKS ! At least no one got hurt !!

I grew up in Vernon NJ, went to action park as a kid (it was renamed Mountain Creek at the time) and worked there when I was in high school too. It's a real honor to know Uncle Joey was there and to tell it like it is. That place was, and probably still is a injury prone amusement park but that's what created its infamy. It owned that. I skied there when I was a kid and saw so many people getting wrecked on the slopes. In the summer, it'd be a billion people in the wave pool, an empty can of beer washing up on the end, or in some cases, what looked like poop. Women losing half their bathing suit on the tarzan swing while people watch and cheer. The H2-Oh-No was literally an water slide that gave you an enema. And the Colorado River was... well... I'm pretty sure I was going to be either severely injured or dead by the end. It was all chaos. It was bad, but it was so bad that it was great.

I grew up going to Action Park - worked there when it became Mountain Creek - it was SOOOO much fun but it was WILD. Have a lot of stories, lol. My brother was a lifeguard at the wave pool. He would come home from work and would tell my mother “I had 10 saves today or 12 saves today”. She didn’t know what he was talking about until she realized he was talking about that’s how many lives he saved in the wave pool or cannonball run(I think that’s what it was called) that day ( and there were several life guards on duty at a time there)

I almost drowned twice at Action Park, lol. Once when I went off the high dive slide (0:56) and couldn't find my way back to the surface, and the second time when I went down their huge sled ramp (3:56) where you're supposed to skip across the water. We used to call it, "Traction Park" because you had a fair shot of winding up in traction after a day there. The Alpine slide was a death trap. 😂 A buddy went down half that slide on his stomach with no t-shirt when he lost his sled. Practically skinned himself. Took months for the wounds to heal. We lived in NYC and went to Class Action Park three or four times. We absolutely loved it as teens. Seriously jumping off of 50’foot cliffs and sliding down Surf Hill at 60 mph on a foam mat and being launched 20 feet into the air to land on vinyl covered logs. Awesome
