I think he is the most amazing guitar player who can sing, I mean he has the best voice. And I'm as impressed as his singing skills as for the guitar playing, and more that they are both absurdly great even when he's doing both at the same time. I love his fuzzy guitar tone, and open tuning slide and non-slide, bebop lines, he is very musically gifted.

I got to see him live here in Chicago and his vocals almost overshadowed his incredible playing. His voice drips pure soul and is clean and accurate. Not to mention the ability to play such complex things while singing with such accuracy.

Bc although he is a phenomenal and exceptional guitarist/singer, he is not answering to any "questions" from the market that haven't already been answered. Think John Mayer, and the like. It takes another level of musicianship to be able to compete in that big pool. Bc his brand image is very similar, he doesn't stand out. I personally really enjoy watching him noodling around when he's demoing guitars or playing not in context of a so called "performance". It feels more intuitive and organic. I think this where he really stands out. If he'd produce an album with instrumental guitar music like that, I'd definitely buy. If he still would continue the full band+vocalist format, by emulating the path of Jack White, St. Vincent, or even Bon Iver with tastier guitar chops, I think he would stand out more bc then he'd be a big fish in a small pond.

he's a fantastic guitar player, but there are many fantastic guitar players out there. There are very few vocalists out there like him though--- just tremendous. He can hold his own with anybody in music today. How this much musical talent and soul was deposited in what seems like a naturally shy, socially awkward, faintly nerdy, and astonishingly white Canadian is one of the world's great mysteries.

I hear Lowell George in his voice sometimes. I would love to take the journey into relearning how to play in open C. My acoustic has mostly switched to open C since my first Joey Landreth concert at the Fox in Vancouver, BC. But there is a pretty big time investment (as I heard jL say). Because I was such a Little Feat fan, when I 1st heard Joey play it brought tears. That was a first for me. Lucky to have Joey (and friends) in our lives...

What a guy, unashamedly pulling out lyrics. I started writing songs recently and one of my main concerns is forgetting lyrics in a live situation.
