it could be interesting a video explaining how to train to sprint really fast with double push, what I mean is, how to get used to the double push on a really fast pace. Nice video

That would indeed be great with such a video! It is very complicated, so it might have to be a full playlist with videos leading to enable one to maintain a powerful doublepush even at sprint pace :)

@@thorupviktor yea, thats why I suggest it to you, because one always found videos of guys showing doublr push but at a controled speed, but something original would be to make one explaining how to handle double push on accelerations or powerfull sprints.

EmiVlogs it all depends on what you mean by sprint... on a 200 meters sprint, DP is not usually used because it would slow your cadence. Past 120s Strides per minutes DP becomes awkward. Side push still is more powerful so sprinters who move their legs some 200 SPM rather not use it.

This is very very helpful. After over two decades of skating, i used speedskates for the first time today. It was hard work and the ankle flex felt unusual. I wasn't sure whether to keep ankles rigid or not but I knew that the speedskates had less ankle support for a reason. I had a feeling in the back of my mind that if I flexed my ankle at the end of the push then I'd get more power. By slowing this vid down to 0.75x it appears I was right. The angle between the skate and the leg changes a lot and that is going to take a fair bit of getting used to I think. Would love to hear any tips from speedskaters out there.

I wear my Seba FR1's cuffs very loose for more ankle control. Feels awkward sometimes but feels strong when in motion, and will help me build ankle muscles.

Im finally getting use to both arms behind my back, I see that keep my core low and tight and keep a tight grip with my hands is the key for. For the longest time I couldn't pass 10 mph average. Now after 2 months I can get up to 15mph then I start loosing my form. My 50 year old knees and 200lb cant move like i use to.

Thank you so much. I have a big benefit of only watching the motion cycles and the coordination between push and glide during the time phases. I watch it many times so getting an engram of it and feeling the movement of my own legs outside a training unit. Very good!

Hockey players use triple push. Why is such technique not used for roller skating?
@dannyarcher6370

So the doublepush is when you push in the same direction with the second leg before switching sides? Almost like a cross-over turn but switching your centre of mass after the second push?

this is the reason i'll never understand inline skating and the double push,,,now i'm in no position to question joey mantia but iv'e literally just watched his how to double push easy video where he explains about lifting the toe first as you raise the pushing leg while straightening (like standing up) on the gliding leg,,,neither of which he's doing here,,now i dont know if its me but he's quite clearly lifting his pushing leg with the toes pointing virtually straight down and he never once stands up and straightens his gliding leg,,,am i stupid or can somebody help me out please,,,

Hey :) Good observation! You're right. He does indeed lift his feet with the tip of the toe pointing towards the ground. Remember that there is a big difference between drills and technical exercises where some specific parts of the skating movement is exaggurated and how one should actually skate to go fast. The point of the drill you mention is to give make the skater concious of how it feels to create the counterforce in the doublepushing leg, as the other is raised upwards. However, when you put it all together into "real" skating, you'll have to let the skate "fly" a bit backwards in order to get more of a lean and a continues rhytmn between your strides :)

HI… bascially you will get lot of feeling like this when an top athlete explain the movement and then when you see the motion in video you see Something different. What you see is real but what Joey tell is what he feel … and both are true. Actually if he didn't had the intention to lift the toe first then his pressure will disapear super fast. When you do the push you need to keep this idea in mind and try to do it...and exagerate it i would say. Then in real life, the "bad" movement will still happen but later with the inertia of the total movement...but you would keep the right feeling longer (in this case, it help to keep the pressure on the heel longer to be able to push with all wheels longer). Later in the movement, the toe point down because he lift a lot the foot but still he try to lift the toe to prepare the landing of his skate with a good angle in the ankle. He probably extra lift the leg because he is drafting a car in a downhill. In this case, the movement become super nice but little unatural compare to the true (that is the only way to get this kind of video actually in a easy cool way).Going overspeed delete a bit the real pressure needed and create extra gliding time in his motion that force him to change his timing. May be i'm all wrong about it^^...just my idea and ffeling when i saw the video. thanks Viktor also for your channel...we need more skater promoting and teaching the sport on KZbin. I will probably publish my double push tutorial next Week on my channel also.

Although Mantia is a great skater, (and it's not me to say it), I think his technique is not really perfect. For example the shoulders are bumping up & down too much, instead of staying leveled, and the double push movement gesture is exasperated, instead of trying to obtain it more with weight transfer than with body twisting. Anyway very very powerful!
