People need to cut the guy some slack. He confessed to doping at the end of his career, admitted he was wrong, and said he wanted to help clean up the sport however he could. Museeuw was a great champion, and a class racer, teammate, and gentleman. Don't try to take that away from him by judging him on his mistakes. Mistakes made during a very dark time in the sport. A time when many doped more than Johan ever did, but unlike him, never had the guts to admit it.

2010 Cancellara climbed Kapelmuur in 3 minutes. It took apx. 3 minutes and 20 seconds for Museeuw in 1998 and Boonen in 2010.

he was in the big ring the whole way up that climb! Very strong. Has admitted that doping was rife in his time, hopefully more big names come out now and clean the sport up.

De Vlaamse Leeuw is a strijdlied, a nationalist battle-song, like Frances Marseillaise. Franco-Belgian political tension in the mid-19th century made the Flemish public mood ripe for such an expression of regional feeling. At the time it was not meant as anti-Belgian (as it often came to be seen by Flemish separatists and their Belgicist opponents), for the enemy it refers to is Belgiums southwestern neighbour France, as in the 1302 Battle of the Golden Spurs.

Yeah, he used drugs, but they were endemic. Not many could ride like that and his courage and aggression were entertaining and enlivened the sport. PS I'm not saying drugs aren't bad, but it's not black and white in cycling's history.

@Fideel666 Museeuw only admitted his drugs use AFTER it became clear he couldn't keep the secret hidden. His confession was a strategical decision trying to reduce the damage. It's also the reason why he lied about using drugs only in the latter years of his career, while it's common knowledge he also used in the 90's. You have to be really gullible to believe him.

@giorlio: You should be ashamed of yourself. Museeuw won the Tour of Flanders 3 times and is one of the greatest winners on the list. Just because he used drugs at the end of his career doesn't mean he cheated back then. At least he admitted he took them, many other cyclist use cheap excuses or keep lying. Museeuw is one of the best cyclist ever in the history of the classic races.
