John Abercrombie was a unique voice in the history of jazz and guitar. His compositions, his playing... thank you so much for posting this incredible and beautiful video. This quartet was at its peak and no other band sounded like this, ever. AMAZING!!

I had the privilege of having taked a few private piano lessons with Richie Beirach in 2014. And he told me he never felt most comfortable with the sound on stage of that concert. On the other hand, those guys were very close friends. He miss to play with drummer Peter Donald. For me was incredible to watch and heard Richie playing the piano next to my chair, so one can realize that concert was a rocket to the space. An outstanding aural experience

It’s a fender electric mandolin, often referred to as a “mandocaster”. There’s still people who play them, but it’s a rarity for sure!

@@kanmunson I read somewhere that he also tuned it in 4ths opposed to the normal mandolin 5ths. Really great tone, check out his sit in on the album 4x4 by McCoy Tyner. Its a face melter for sure
