John's swing feel is what made him special. The band knew it, and Jazz drummers can feel and hear it. This song for me was the first and most important one,especially the intro. Powerful and mesmerizing. Zeppelin would not have been the same without him !

I like different periods. His style on Presence is its own thing. At Knebworth he plays like a monster! On the BBC Sessions his playing from April 1971 is outstanding-my favorite.

Great breakdown...As a drummer for decades, and big Bonzo fan. This is Bonzo in his prime! One of the greatest debut albums in rock...I could hear the song as you went through each section...:)...Thanks for the upload.

Terry, is there am era of Bonham's drumming you like most? I have to say, the first album really was Bonham as his most over the top (no pun intended). I love his playing on the first album because he was a bit more random with his use of fills.

Terry, I gotta know something here (if you don't mind). Is there anyone at home, upstairs, while you make these vids ?? Besides the insight you provide into JHB's drumming style, your own style can be hilarious at times ! I can't help picture a 'Mrs. Kravitz' type neighbor popping in (as was her style - you are old enough to remember her right ?) for a cup of coffee whatever and ...well , if you recall the show, you can write the rest of the scene with a little imagination ..or r u home alone?

I agree...also there is something undeniably cool about 1977 Bonham. The Stainless Steels make their first appearance. There was something very ominous about that era...Bonham's drumming never suffered though no matter what demons he was fighting then. Speaking of late era Bonham, I know you are a big Stewart Copeland fan. By all accounts, Bonham admired Copeland's drumming and I know he had a run in with Sting backstage at a Police concert around 1979. Has Stewart ever mentioned meeting B

Great video! One thing I've always wondered about with this song: on the second triplet build up, (right before "Oh Rosie") the snares are off for that whole section. But then right on the downbeat the snares are on. Would be impossible for him to turn the snares on during that build... do you think this is a tape splice?
@bonzoleum8 жыл бұрын
+thegoodfoot I'll check that out-I've never noticed it.
@cnewman9913 жыл бұрын
Yeah I always thought Bonham was using both hands on the snare for those triplets around 3 minutes into the song until I saw a video of them, I think on Swedish TV or something. He makes it look so easy!
@cnewman9913 жыл бұрын
@bonzoleum Haha indeed! Oh yeah it was on Danish TV, not Swedish.

This guy is good . He is very close, but not quite Bonham. No one could do how many more times drum solo like Bonham .. Nice try ! It’s like there will only be one Jimi Hendrix .
