Hey, I really like your attitude to IMA. Completely honest and grounded in reality. I'm a long term tai ji practitioner and a disciple of Fu qing quan, Fu Zhong wen's grand son. We know this part of the art is mostly lost and typically won't work in a fight unless you really know what you're doing. I don't have this skill. Not even close.

*Giggles* this must've been recorded ten years before I met Sherfu in the 90's when I trained with his newbie class for like an hour twice a week for five months... I was like 19 at the time and all of my friends had insisted... stressed his little expensive studio was worth it... I was expecting boxing and a physical trainer... fighting.... and I was so dumb... at the time I got so confused of just holding a pose for half an hour while he lectured... maybe do joint-locks and hear him say that's it... but I've actually been in a few fights in the last twenty years, and that weird stuff he had me do made me slip into guard instantly, tip people over with a push... He like mentally prepared me that when I get attacked to expect it'll be 3-on-1... and he was right on the two times I've gone to ground... I wish I knew how valuable his mysterious inexplicable training was or I would've stayed there for years and years

All humans have force to use in combat. It makes sense that if you can be more relaxed than the adversary controlling him is easier.

Adam Mizner can apply his sinking energy in a real fight. He trains to achieve this. Yap Beoh Hong also can influence in fighting. There are others, Sergio Laderola, as one more example .

These 3 teachers have, undoubtedly, developed some very good and subtle skills. But, none demonstrate it against non cooperative opponents. As far as this video is concerned, it’s all about the development of jin skills. Interesting that there’s no mention of Hua or Na jin. Without these, Fajin is very nothing special.

That Bruce lee's punch isn't 1 inch at all. Clearly he's displacing his body projecting momentum from back feet, extending shoulder and elbow, twisting trunk

Joint manipulation is not internal art

Not a single person in all the demonstrations showed even an inkling of real world fighting experience. Chin up and neck straight is a great way to get KO'd. Martial fa jin as opposed to that for health or exercise is like like a needle in a balloon. The one struck doesn't get driven back. They collapse into their own footprint.

hi @The-Contractor . What a great comment. It brings to the forefront the single most important question - and challenge - of the internal martial arts. Can the bio-mechanics of the IMA really work in a real fight? They can and they do. However, that knowledge of how to do it is almost completely lost. Your comment is so important, that I'm going to have to make a video with diagrams, arrows and comparison to other fighters who rely on a relatively straight vertical spine (for example, Anderson Silva) to make my point. I ask you to be patient, it's going to take me 25-30 hours to make that kind of video and ask one of thr guys to put it up on our YT channel. I gotta squeeze that project somewhere into an already full day and work load. Hopefully some practitioners will find it helpful. peace. John

Chen Zhonghua is a true tai chi master and without any mystery. No chi energy, nothing special.

Not all jumping is Faked. I mastered Fajin striking, ages ago. Eventually I decided to try to develop a Fajin push, like in the Tai Chi demos. I, and my private student, practiced this for quite some time. First, it was just a step through push... and seeing how far we could push each other. When you are being pushed, you have to keep your feet underneath you... or you would fall to the floor. Eventually I got to the point where I could express fajin, incredibly powerful. My student went flying back, maybe about 14 feet... and almost being sent down the attic staircase. I had to teach my student, how to keep his feet underneath him, as he was being launched. Its not always intuitive... and it also often depends on how much force was involved. As if they move back very far... they often are overwhelmed, and let their body slide out from under their feet. One day I was at a Target (store), and was doing martial arts movements as I walked the isles. One of the employees saw this, and I ended up giving him a demo. I had partially extended my arms in front of me... and told him to try as hard as he could, to push me backwards. He tried, with all of his might / strength... to move me... and wasnt budging me. Then is issues fajin with a single step forwards. I sent him about 13 feet backwards... and he flew to the floor... and continued to slide probably another 5 feet, from the momentum + the smooth floor surface. He was so shocked by this, that he quickly became another one of my private students. So, yes... if the Person that is taking the fajin push... knows how to keep their feet underneath them... it will actually LOOK like a "Hop", to an outside observer. Of course... This kind of Push based Fajin, is pretty much for demos... and not for combat applications (Unless the OP is close to the edge of a cliff). The highest level of Fajin, does not really move the OP much at all. Instead, you simply cause internal damages (ruptures). I used to add about 15% of fajin expression to my vertical fist punches... to a few very disrespectful fighters. Id hit their foreheads... and it was an extremely easy TKO... even with the shock absorbing mma gloves on. Anyway.. there are many Fakers out there.. whom demo No-Touch BS... and their students / demo people... jump exceptionally high into the air... trying to over-sell the expression. When people are sent into the air from a person whom knows what they are doing.. your feet dont tend to get that high into the air. This is one way that you can tell whom the fakers are... from the students that know how to keep their legs under them.

This is low level neutralization. Crude yin. At least it's not 100% physical like most youtube internal wannabes. You have only just begun. Your so-called coiling is still physical. Good for you, hardly anyone makes it even this far.
