I dont think he is going to have the recruiting power he had while he was at Kentucky. Think about it... a big part of what hes sold to these kids in the past was KENTUCKY. That almost sells itself. Now I'm sure Calipari will still be successful recruitment wise wherever he goes however it ain't going to be what it was like while at Kentucky. If he does take the Arkansas job I believe he will be more focused on winning then going with the one & done formula.

UMass fan here who still loves Cal for all he did with very limited resources and inheriting a program with no winning tradition to speak of in Amherst. Looking from afar, it sure appeared that Cal lost some of the passion and game management magic he was known for during the first 10-years at Kentucky. The time was right for Cal and UK to part ways. Best of luck to Big Blue Nation in finding the right guy to lead your legendary program to future greatness.

Cal said everything I needed to hear. I hate that it ended like this. He looks completely sad and defeated. We know he didn't come here to win one title and have to run out the back door to escape the mob but sometimes you just have to take the L and move on. I hope he can look back on his tenure at Kentucky as a success overall. He probably wishes he could have about 5 specific games and a couple roster/staff decisions back that backfired and his legacy would look entirely different but it is what it is.

No doubt a classy gesture. And I believe it was (mostly) straight from the heart. Cal doesn't make in-game adjustments, he won't press, his teams have lacked defense, 7-footers don't play with their backs to the basket, and the list goes on and on. He should be honest with his players and tell them that they are not ready for the NBA and develop them instead of pushing them out the door. The UConn team that just won the championship used to be us, instead we are what we have become. It's a shame that Cal can't see the difference. UK teams shouldn't be losing 10 games every season. We had a great team this year that didn't want to play defense because there wasn't any discipline. I have heard that his assistants were lazy and players were losing NIL money because of it. Cal wanted to keep doing the same thing expecting different results.

Because he sucks as a coach. Great recruiter, bad coach. Was up by 9 with 90 seconds to go here with memphis to go undefeated, win title, he lost. Now kentucky will get what he did to memphis when he takes all your recruits with him, and will be worse, because your team is all now free agents. You will be rebuilding from scratch. Should have had a buyout for him to leave.

Cal was right to step away because he knows this place expects more. He’s a great NBA recruit but he’s not a championship coach anymore. I live in Lexington and I’ve seen Cal multiple times out walking his dogs, I’ve repaired plumbing in his home. He’s an amazing guy.
