The great outdoors. The steak scene where he is shaking with the last bit only to realise he has to do the grizzle to. Damn I am 45 now and that still brings a smile to my face.

Normally I am very cynical and tend to dislike celebs, but John was cut from a different cloth. Perhaps because he was Canadian, but there seemed to be no pretense, none of that typical Hollywood phoniness that we are so accustomed. He was unique and is still very much missed by many, R.I.P. John, you left us way too soon…🙏

He drank like a fish and smoked like a chimney. The men in this family had a history of dying young. John's father died of heart disease at 35. He knew he was never going to have a long life. Trying to push the blame, even partially, onto someone or something else is completely ridiculous.

One of my favorite movies is Cool Runnings! His small role in Home Alone was also very memorable, and he was also very funny as the Cubs announcer in Rookie of the Year, which was strangely an uncredited role even though he appeared in many scenes!

Although he was a great comedy actor let’s not forget his serious roll in JFK, a performance that proved he was an extremely talented actor in any roll he played .. he is sadly missed but his legacy lives on.

When he died, I was shocked and very sad because I knew it would not be the same because he was so unique. I had no idea of his personal struggles. every time his movies come on TV I watch them. I must’ve seen planes, trains and automobiles 100 times and uncle Bob almost the same. He was one of the kind !

It was impossible to miss any one of his movies. I'm sure that all of us have watched at least twice Uncle Buck and Planes, Trains and Automobiles. He was a person that inspired us a feeling of tenderness and spiritual happiness with all of his characters. RIP John, and keep all the Angels enjoying your adorable presence !

It's frightening that I am now older than J.C was when he died. My flatmate Brad died when he was 43 due to his substance use and his inherited heart disease. I never wept when I had deaths in the family, but I cried when I thought about the fact that Brad had brain damage due to lack of oxygen when his heart stopped. I'm sorry, I had to get this off my chest. 😢

I was born in 1985 and love his movies - I saw Cool Runnings, Home Alone, Rookie of the Year, and Rescuers Down Under in the theaters and watched a bunch of his other movies on VHS and TV so I was very aware of who he was when he passed, even at such a young age. Poor guy, he really was great.

I knew had a teacher who knew John when I worked in film. She said when he died she cried more at his funeral than at her own father’s. Basically went to say he was a sincerely beyond nice guy.

I remember where i was when i heard the news ...I drove 18 wheeler Flatbed out of Tampa Florida ..i was on my way from St Petersburg Fl to Tampa Fl in my car to go pick my Rig up ..was crossing the Gandy Bridge across Tampa Bay when i heard the news come over my radio ...Felt like i lost a friend

What a great comedic actor. Only The Lonely was a different role for John but he was brilliant in it and the movie was great. Planes, Trains and Automobiles makes me cry at the end and I don’t even cry at funerals. There’s just something about the final scene where he meets Steve Martin’s family. RIP John.
