I’ve had these expectations for the longest time that my mother could change. If I just supported her. That if she could admit to how badly she bused my sister and I, then we could move forward. For YEARS, I had this notion that we could be close and she would be my mom, someone I could call up everyday and laugh with. That never happened. A huge part of me knew that years ago. It truly is a superpower to be able to have proper emotions in place in the moment to be able to avoid a massive disintegration of your life when those expectations don’t happen. I wish I would have been able to get my head out of the sand that I was purposely burying it in years ago. I knew what the outcome was going to be deep down. I just didn’t want to admit it.
