I didn’t know much about pro golfers but this was in the mid 90s and when he caught up to us ,I was prob 12 or 13 so I wasn’t setting a speed record for sure out there haha , we waited at the next tee box and let him and his partner play through and my Dad recognized him but we treated him just like any other golfer he hit his drive that he smashed and was still as good a drive I’ve ever witnessed in person a low drive with the perfect draw at least 330 yards and then walked over to our cart and signed our score card and shook hands and left . The crazy thing is looking at this video and his flamboyant attire, that day he was dressed in a plain khakis and a plain colored shirt he was just at acceptable level of golf course attire so it’s great that he hammed it up for the cameras.

Daly is a person with literally zero self control and an extremely addictive personality who was gifted with one of the greatest golfing talent in history. If he had discipline and the ability to control his emotions and had worked hard he could have easily won more than 10 majors and dozens of tournaments. He was so much longer than everybody in his prime that he had a tremendous advantage. It's interesting to see how life gives somebody like him with all his flaws that kind of gift.

@@mikeschmidt4800 nah, it's perfectly normal for the person you're married to, to "complain," be concerned, or worry about your spending habits. Doesn't matter how much money either of them make. You got married, and unless you sign a prenuptial agreement, you entered into a partnership. When my wife was making 14x more money than I was, while I was in school making $30k/yr as a resident, I still brought up her bad Amazon spending habits. If she goes broke, I go broke, or kids go broke, and I don't want any of us to go broke. Now that I'm making 10x more money than she is, she still has the right to be concerned with my spending habits.

Quit smoking for 24 years and started again on a whim and was smoking a pack and a half a day right away..I also used to make money while drinking to excess.... in bars. For some reason my phone would ring a lot more when I arrived at bar mid afternoon....I would run outside to get away from the noise and do my business...anyway I'm not a golfer but I love this guy for sticking it to the snobby golf establishment and for his talent. He came to Mississippi State University to play some money games with us and to speak with our PGM majors on how to become a professional tour player. I played everyday with him for a couple of weeks. Unbelievably long back then. Our last par 3 at lakeside was 239 yards, most of us hit 3 or 4 wood to reach it and on a windy day sometime it took a driver. He stands up hits a smooth 4 iron. The best part of his game was his touch, he had great hands around the green. less than a month later, he wins the PGA. ( At 9am he was pulling a bottle of jack Daniels out of his bag while we were chipping and putting. LOL)

That is an interesting perspective about gambling; "He didn't care about winning, or the money, he just wanted the rush of adrenaline." It was the action of not knowing what was going to happen that was so alluring. I don't gamble, but I've had a friend with a gambling addiction. I didn't think it was a real addiction, until we went to the casino. His eyes lit up like a Christmas tree, and he was excited as a kid at Disneyland. I've never seen anything like it, and that's when I believed him.

I remember him losing a tournament on a 3-4 foot putt two or three times on the last hole. it was actually a moment for the rest of us to feel human seeing the ball roll around the edge of the hole twice in a row.

I saw him removed from a casino in tunica while I was playing slots in the early 2000s. I was like that guy looked like…. Nah couldn’t be. But it was the same weekend of the St Jude classic in Memphis. Now I wonder if it was after his wife cut him. 🤣
