He is ROLLING with that shredder! We run a JD 27 shredder on a 4430 here as well as a 115 shredder on an 8300.

Neat video from half century of progress. I just overhauled our one 4840 that has a 466 motor in it.

Oh wow....I grew up with one of these behind an IH 1066. It was my job to chop the stalks thru late grade school and into early junior high school, in prep for fall tillage. Some great times were had in that cab!

My grandfather had a similar model. Sadly, my grandfather and great uncle, father, and uncle have all passed away (they would have known the exact model number). It was very similar to this tractor, minus the cab. I remember driving it as a pre-teen. I think it had a eight speed transmission in it. You had to use the clutch to get into first, third, fifth, and seventh. To switch between even and odd, just move the shifter. It was equipped with the axles to use duals, but never ran them. I don't know when he purchased it, but he bought it new, and I was born in 1971, so it was around this exact time.

We had a neighbor with one that I ran a few times. It was very, very hot. I was told it put down a power number just shy of 300. That tractor ran like a two stroke. Gutless below 1500 but when it hit, holy cow. I made the mistake of shifting .... it was either D1-D2 or D3-D4 on pavement while the motor was on the turbo and increasing rpm. I will never forget, the freaking front tires came off the ground. I never did that again! That poor transmission. Speaking of transmissions, I didn't know they offered the syncro or the full power shift in these tractors. I thought only the Quad Range was offered. I learn something new every day! Thanks for the video BTP!!!

The farmer who rented our farm back in the early 80's had several 4630's. One always comes to mind though. He had one with the super long rack and pinion axles. They had to be 36" long. They had the pump worked over and huge injectors. I was told it dynoed at over 250 hp. It would pull a 25 disk down to the axles and never lose rpm on the motor just spin the heck out of the tires with a lot of smoke. They ran it later on a 25 or 30 ft do-all on plowed ground, with triple 20.8-38's on the rear and still would slip the wheels. Tractors tires were not the best back then though.

I have a 4560 2wd that I use for my disk tractor/ backup tillage tractor. When it was my main tractor I had triples on it and 16" flotation tires in front. It has a 5" straight pipe. An intercooler was added and the pump turned up to the same as a 4760 which was the only difference between the 2 models. I pulled a 26 ft field culitvator, 12 row cultivator, 5 bottom plow 15 ft chisel plow. I bought it at 3800 hours when my employer traded it in (and I traded my 4440, which was the first tractor I ever bought.) It has 6200 hours on it now I drove it for the majority of them. Its in pretty good condition, 190 hp when they dyno'd it, but it never works that hard.

We had a 4630 with a quad range, 2wd. Dad bought it around 2000 and it was our big tractor till we got our 4850 a couple years later. Great tractor with plenty of hp if you kept your rpm high. We used it for planting and mowing.

40 series was Iron Horses, 466 engine a and a few things beefed up.The 30s had some issues with transmission/rear end. My cousin had a 4430 rebuilt at 5000 hours,(typical) the mechanic told him the dipsticks were too long, never let it get below the "full" mark.

When we bought our Manitoba farm in 95 it came with a 4440 a 8440 and an 8650 which were all shortly traded up to newer n bigger machines, since my family retired and were just a cattle operation we picked up a low hour 2950 fwa loader as a backup chore tractor but it gets used quite regular, very nimble and very good on fuel for its size. made in Germany from what i learned

Those corn pickers were leaving quite a little shell corn on the ground. I bought a 4630 a couple years ago and really like it, it's a little on the cold blooded side for starting when its cool outside and the quad range shifts a little harder then the 40 series. It does have an auxiliary fuel tank for longer run time before filling which I really like.

I don't remember that much shelling as a kid. I suspect it might be due to the new corn varities.

Is shredding the corn stubble the same as "mulching"? In the Farming Simulator game we use mulchers to incorporate residue into the soil. Is this the same thing?
@lynwessel2471
@lynwessel2471 3 ай бұрын
Stalk chopper just chops, doesn't incorporate into the soil. Now most combines have chopping corn heads.
