I like the fair comparison you gave. I learned years ago when I went to replace my garden tractor that deere was not American anymore. That was the day I got my first Kubota and have stayed with them for over 20 years now.

Good overview, Neil. Your last bit of advice is key. Find a good reliable dealer(s), then get off the computer and go there, talk to them, and try them out for yourself. One thing that drives me nuts about tractor comparison videos: Most of them like to show the loaders being operated without the tractor being ballasted properly- then they talk smack about so and so not having any traction or stability. A certain brand with red tractors made in India is famous for doing that...

I really appreciate your in depth comparison of these two tractors. I am currently doing a pre-purchase research on tractors and your videos are certainly needed. I wish more tractor dealers we're as upfront and honest as you appear to be. I'll be buying a compact utility tractor in the 45 to 55 horsepower range, in which I'll be using to clear my 10 acres....and farming it. We have a small goat farm and are in desperate need of a fel with PTO. I'm on a very fixed income, so I'm only buying one tractor...and plan on using it until the Good Lord takes me home! In your professional opinion, would you recommend a Kubota? It'll be used for maintaining a 10 acres hay field as well as a 4 acre garden. Jobs will be plowing, discing, mowing, moving about 6 rolls of hay (1100 lbs each) per month, and frequently moving loads of soil. It's sandy here in NW Florida, so 4wd is a necessity. Could you please recommend a tractor or two that'll work for my needs? Thank you so much for your informative videos, you provide us with a lot of info that our local dealers won't tell you. I hope you have a wonderful day, thank you again and God bless you all! Sincerely, Don Miller Standing Goat's Farm and Rescue

We sell Case, New Holland and Kubota. If you're looking for something is going to be nice and comfortable to operate, the MX series from Kubota is a really good option. If you can give up some Creature Comforts to save a little bit of money New Holland's work-master series will come in at a lower price point. It will lack some Creature Comforts. Your acreage is on the low side for a 40-50 horsepower tractor, but it sounds like from your tasks that's probably where you should be.

The important take away is that all of the major brands are global. India just happens to be where a lot of utility size tractors are made, and not just deere and mahindra, either. Others are made in Germany (JD 6 family, for instance); England; Mexico, etc. India has a very large steel industry and a massive labor pool- and a lot less regulatory and tax bs than we do. Pretty sad when it's cheaper to build something on the other side of the world and import it than it is to make it here, ain't it?
@wildbill23c
@wildbill23c 4 жыл бұрын
I believe they've always had many of their lower end models and compact, sub-compact tractors always have been made in India, and mostly due to cost savings, although not passed onto the consumer. When you get into the large utility and agricultural tractors I believe they're made here in the US. Some of the India tractors aren't bad, just have to be careful when it comes to parts is what I've heard and found out...sometimes you get supply issues for parts. Mahindra's aren't too bad, they're mostly Mitsubishi made though so there's a bit better parts availability with them. I think John Deere's India made models have pretty good parts supplies here in the US, Mahindra seems hit and miss at times. I really think it all comes down to what color your want, over where they're made, just like cars, there are thousands of different models, colors, options, etc. You have to pick what works for you. I'm going with a Kubota due to prior experience and seeing an old neighbor running his on our property several times for us and never had a single problem in all the years he had his BX and the many years he had his B which was auctioned off after his death 2 years ago and the dang thing still looked brand new after 15 years. His BX he only had for 7 years and was sold to a local rental company for what he originally paid for it, I was surprised figured it would have decreased quite a bit in value, but I think that has a lot to do with how well a machine is cared for and the amount of hours and options on it.

Thanks Neil for the video. As a novice I find it hard to try to compare tractors, even of the same brand. If i'm thinking about a 50 hp how different Kubotas meet that need, and without a side by side to look at how do I tell the physical size of the different models. Much less trying to compare one brand to another. Going to a dealer to look is not as easy as it sounds, for example the Kubota dealer that is suppose to be number one in my state do not have much for inventory other that big row crop machines, same with Massey, but I guess you stock what sells in your area.

Really good Video, you put quite some thought into it. We own a 5055E on our Farm in Germany and some of the Downsides are completely Different in the European Version. We have the 540E Pto speed with the Standart 9/3 Transmission (I don't like the 9/3... Get the 12/12 if you are looking for these tractors) I can't judge how much Pto hp the Tractor really has, but it did surprise me that it is rated so low. We do only mow with a small 1.6m drum Mower and power a manure pump from time to time, which it has plenty of power to do so and the 540E really helps keep the noise down. I'm not certain, but the attacher on the loader seems to be a European one, so it's not a John Deere exclusive, they are just the only ones who use them in the US. These attachers are used on 90% of all loaders from all brands that are produced after 1990 or so. They are on a loader that is designed for a 50hp tractor and also on loaders for tractors with 250 hp. They are everywhere over here. The locking mechanism looks like shit, it's not supposed to come out of the hole completly. Ours is fine. Also the Hydraulic quick connect for the loader sits in the worst possible spot. As you already showed, it even extends beyond the outside of the tractor! On our version the complete Hydraulic valve sits on the side of the loader, within the outer lines of the vehicle. The parking brake on the euro one is on the left side of the driver's seat and it's just one of the regular pull stile one we know from cars. It also surprises me that the US tractors get so narrow front Wheels. They look hideous! Ours are 320mm wide and come Standart from the factory! And why do some many us tractors don't have a self leveling loader? I don't get it... Because they are 1k$ cheaper? They are also a pain in the butt to work with, as you have found out in the video. If you have any more questions what's different on our tractor feel free to ask ;)
@pyroman6000
@pyroman6000 6 жыл бұрын
John deere calls that system the Global Carrier, so I suspect you're right about the bucket detatch system. They also offer Skid Steer as an option. As for the self levelling feature- they do have them for all their higher end loaders- this one here is an economy model. It's interesting the difference between European and North American equipment, insofar as standard equipment and options, isn't it.

Outstanding overview and detailed comparison between these tractors. Most importantly, you pointed out half truths, deceptive sales tactics between popular brand tractors. Good that you mentioned that John Deere was made in India, just as the Mahindra tractor is and that most common brands are international made/built/engineered. I believe most John Deere tractors are over rated. Kubota is a Japan brand and Japanese build quality reliable products.

Good video. One thing regarding the bucket or fork attachment, with the Deere global system on that tractor you want the attachment up off the ground before pulling the lever. Once you pull the lever you never have to get off the tractor again to reattach the implement. Just roll back the attachment and the system self locks.

Messick Farm Equipment You give the rod a slight twist clockwise and it locks in the out position (unlocked) when you roll the bucket off and pick up the forks ( or vise versa) once you pick up the new attachment you roll it back all the way and it automatically locks it on. I like Global Attachment,you pull the locking pin back when you attach the bucket,roll the bucket back and the pin locks in place,no getting off the tractor to lock the bucket to the loader.The locking pin on the demonstration JD tractor is a defect or the roll pin has come out preventing it from being pulled too far.I didn't think the non self leveling loaders were capable of moving the bucket and the loader at the same time.I don't even know why manufacturers offer a non self leveling loader. Yes, I do operate a 5075E with a self leveling loader with Global Attachments.It has had a few hydraulic fitting seeps. The engine runs strong and the transmission is geared well.I have cleared some property that should have had a bulldozer rather than the 5075E.Overall I'm pleased with the JD.I don't know much about the Kubota,I wish you would have made some comparisons.Where is it manufactured? It looks like the Spects are comparable with the 5055E and the M6060. Yes a much better comparison.One Thing I don't like about the Kubota is when the paint fades it turns pink. I have heard the transmissions are going out at 1800HRS,something about the reverse band?

Thank you for this. I agree 100 percent. I was getting ready to make my own video until I saw yours. Comparing a 50 series John Deere against an MX Series is ridiculous. One point that you missed is the claim that lower rpms translates to better fuel economy. Think of running your car in high gear all the time. If you are lugging then your fuel economy is not going to be good. Also engines are designed to run at certain rpms, just because the rpm are lower does not mean the fuel economy is better. Also. John Deeres love of plastic for hood material is misguided at best. Yes it won't corrode or dent. But it also won't last( had a few John Deere mowers, the first thing that went was the plastic hood. They should show what happens when the hood is impacted at 20 degrees Fahrenheit! I went to several dealers before deciding on Kubota. One of the big things that helped sway me was the Kubota engine vs. the Yanmar in the John Deere. My brother in law worked on mowers and told me that a guy who worked for a school system showed him a video of a Kubota diesel zero turn running and mowing with fire coming out of the exhaust. Said they had been running it like that for a week! Upon inspection my brother in law found the radiator completely plugged and had been for a while. No coolant whatsoever! I am happy with my MX 5200!

That original video that compared the 5e to the mx was just embarrassing for John Deere. Nice video, I've seen a few of the John Deere videos that are deceptive. I own a Kubota M9960 and there are three things about it I dont like. 1) The three point hitch system is too small, it's impossible to use bale forks because they wont go to the ground and some attachments will scrub against my tires. 2) The loader doesn't have anything that allows me to lock it in an up position. It's impossible to do any real work on the engine when the loader is down . 3) The toobox is low to the ground and uses plastic latches. It no longer latches so I dont keep anything in there. That went out after about 3 months. I dont know how the competitors do for this though.

I wish all you guys would let you tractor sell itself. Damn tractors are nearly the same when apples to apples are compared. Biggest downfall to kubota is not the equipment but the service in and near Franklin county va is damn terrible. Deere has 2 times the service centers per sq mile at least where I'm located. So to be perfectly far be perfectly fair.

Have you seen John Deere's version of this video? I think he tried to be as balanced as he could, which is more than I can say for their video. Their video is a joke. Certainly all dealers are going to be more experienced with the positives of their brand... and probably have some preference toward those positives even if it is subconscious. I think he tried hard to be balanced.

You left out the part that the Kubota M6660 is 13,000$ more expensive then the JD5055e maybe that’s why they compare the mx5200 is price not size
@MessicksEquip
@MessicksEquip 4 жыл бұрын
Anytime you see a pricing issue like this, assume your looking at something wrong. Kubota's MSRP on the M6060 is $33,600. The Deere 5055e $33,900 for 4WD, hydraulic shuttle, etc. The Deere build and price tool defaults to the most stripped down version. Even at this, we're still comparing a machine from Kubota's deluxe line of tractors, to Deere's cheap Indian import tractor.

The reason why John Deere went that route of a quick connect is because if you don't have an attachment on the front and you drive-in it auto locks. You don't need to get off the tractor again!!!!

@paulkleinschmit9871

Crushed 1126, I may be wrong but a cursory look at the quick coupler looks like the "euro" or "alo" coupler which is probably the most popular coupler for larger loaders of all brands. When it comes to tractors, I actually prefer euro over the skidsteer (bobtach). Sure attachments are more plentiful and probably cheaper with the bobtach, but the major weakness of the bobtach is that Bobcat developed it with skid steers in mind. They are quite easy to use when the attachment is directly in front of you, where you can see it. On a tractor, this is a different story. Euro seems to me to make it easier to "feel" for your attachment and allow for a greater margin of error when attaching implements to your loader.
@drewsiebert9903
@drewsiebert9903 5 жыл бұрын
@@crushed1126 I disagree... this is a great feature. Not enough for me to give up my skidsteer attach that has more available attachments... but a great feature. It makes sense too. When you couple up a skid steer, the levers are "right there in front of you", but on a tractor it is a bit more work to latch it in.

I agree... a little more time pointing out some Kubota positives would be worthwhile. One thing I thought could've been pointed out that wasn't was that JD's approach to protecting the drive linkages is lost in reverse. Due to shielding, Kubota protects the linkages in forward and rev. No shielding on the JD, so totally exposed from the rear. Although on this particular model it is up high.

All 1 through 5 series John Deere tractors are made in Augusta Georgia first and foremost and I could go on and on contradicting a lot of what you say in this video, yet you accuse John Deere of being untruthful or deceptive. You might want to update YOUR deceptive video that your are pushing on the uniformed general public Neil.
@MessicksEquip
@MessicksEquip 7 жыл бұрын
Then go on and on? The truth is right on the spec sheets on Deere's website where is says where the tractors are made! The 5E series are made in India. They would bolt the tires on stateside, but the tractors country of origin is India. I personally don't have a problem with this. These are large global brands, what irks me is the public persona of some all American company when that's hardly the truth.

I suggest you go look at the actual video posted by John Deere titled 'John Deere 5E Series vs. Kubota MX'. Watch the guy act like he's trying to turn the steering wheel with a load on the loader, if that's not deceptive then I know nothing because that's an outright hoax. My son owns a JD 5065M and a Kubota MX5100, both are fine tractors when used what they were designed for but they are clearly not in the same class. I suspect you bleed JD green like some of our friends.

How is JD US? Let me give you a true example. My son owns a JD 5065M assembled in GA. The engine is made in Mexico says so right on the tag, the Transmission is made China according to a JD Tech, the Hydraulic system is from Brazil as is marked on the tags and the front axle is made in India, it's marked. I'm not saying a bad tractor because it's not, take a look at some of his videos on our YT channel. The only thing marked on the tractor as made in the US is the the Grammar seat and the cab.
