As a kid in the mid 1960s, we had a JD “B”, which was the smaller version of the “A”. Ours had no battery or starter like this fancy one, but the manual flywheel starting was usually easy. It had petcocks to relieve cylinder pressure until it got started. I liked that little tractor a lot. 👍

If the contact in the starter switch still looks good on the side not used currently, take the nut loose on the battery cable stud (on the starter switch) and turn the contact 180 degrees and retighten, if the contact stud in the starter is worn it can be filed clean (if sufficient material remains) if it’s worn too much it needs replaced

I have one of these that I have restored years ago, because of Covid19 I haven't cranked it. I've put one of those Ignitor kits in mine and never had any problems, there's two compression release valves on the bottom of the engine and if you had opened them it would have taken pressure off the starter.
@russabrams39822 жыл бұрын
Does the Pertronics instructions ask you to eliminate the ballast resistor ? We put that ignition on a Ford tractor and it was hard starting , so we removed the ballast resistor and it was like magic , started like a dream !
