One more thing , make sure the crankshaft seal behind pony ignition housing is not leaking. It can saturate box with oil , not good for points. Just ask me how I know...

Thank you for all of your videos! I recently inherited 2 JD70 diesels and a JD G. The 70s are what I grew up on. The G my dad grew up on. Both the 70s still run. The G is going to take a lot of work, but it is in the plans to fully restore her.

Your welcome I'm glad I could help! I really want to get a G next

The overrunning clutch is also to protect the pony from over-reving when the diesel starts if the starter drive clutch is NOT disengaged.
@Cougracer672 жыл бұрын
No! That overrunning clutch does not work the way you described! It overruns after the Diesel starts in the correct direction to prevent over speeding the pony motor. If the Diesel should run backward (extremely unlikely if not impossible) the overrunning clutch will lock up and spin the pony motor backwards.

720 Green dash = early , black dash = late . Not sure of years. Same for 730 .

The over running clutch disconnects the pony from diesel so diesel can't drive the pony mtr

Your black dash is the later half of the serial number split, if you look at the parts book and the part number split will be the updates to the black dash. Flywheel was a different part number for one that I know of. Also if you have the pony off put a oil pressure switch on it and tie it into the coil wires. Will save you many of pony coils.

Hopefully the shafts and gears are still good. Bearing shouldn't be too hard to find. We'll be watching the progress. I'll give you guys a shout out on tomorrow's video. MB BAR RANCH

There really aren’t that many channels out there that feature two cylinders and there are even less that detail how to work on them. I farm with them on my channel but I’m inexperienced as far as working on them
@dirtgrainsteel4 жыл бұрын
Well my goal is to make as many videos on them as possible I'm currently in the market for even more two cylinders so stay tuned I'll teach you and show you how to work on them I really should have started KZbin years ago!!!

Dirt,Grain & Steel want to buy a 730 diesel? I bought a pony start so I could get the wide front, second remote, and wheel weights that were on it. I can’t keep two of them so once I swap things over I’ll need to sell it

I have black dash 720 serial no. 7223804 with 2765 hrs on it. Am also having an issue with the pony motor clutch. hoping I won't have to tear it apart.

Love the old 2 cylinder JD's! My uncle had a 70 and a G among a few other JD's, but his neighbor had a 720 and as a kid I thought that was about the coolest thing going (besides the old steam tractor that they also had) When I was little I had no concept of what the pony motor did. I just knew it made a bunch of noise before the diesel finally started. You guys do a nice job of explaining things...
@dirtgrainsteel4 жыл бұрын
They definitely are cool tractors when I was way younger my dad and I restored a 60 from front to back but I wasn’t old enough to get the full experience of it and it was sold to make a down payment on a farm I wish it had never gotten sold but dad had to do what he had to do well well now things are easier and I’m not 30 I told dad it’s time for another tractor restoration together and honestly we we have a ton of other things that we should be doing but it feels good to just stop and work on the 720 for awhile when we get a little time....i was the same way when I was little a friend of ours had a pony start 70 and i always knew it made noise before the diesel started but never grasped the concept till I was in my later years and now I know them real well lol we try to do our best to explain things as we go it’s not as easy as you would think to catch everything thing on camera but I’m getting better at it as I go!!! I should have started KZbin along time ago we have done some really cool things in our shop in the last 15 years it’s seen a lot of engine overhauls,engine swaps and lots of maintenance works on equipment stay tuned because you never know what you might see on my channel!!
