While visiting Egypt 25 years ago, I stepped into a Cairo hotel elevator and met a young man as well as an older man who wore a traditional djellaba, turban, and long white beard. The younger man seemed a little confused by my western-hemisphere clothing: "You look Arabic, but..." "I'm from the United States." "Oh. Whereabouts?" "West Virginia." I grew up in Grand Rapids Michigan, born and raised. But I had a brother who moved to Raliegh NC when I was about 8-9. So we'd make that road trip a couple times a year for about 5 years. Best memories of my life was going through those blue ridge mountains. I loved road trips as a kid and seeing the rolling hills turn to mountains and beautiful scenery takes me back. There was one hotel in WVA in particular you could get unlimited bacon
