The 1960’s was a time of upheaval in America. Post-war optimism from the 40’s and 50’s, plus the tensions from the ongoing Cold War, all came to a head in a decade of counter-culture, civil rights, and a quest to put a man on the moon. During the majority of the decade, two U.S. presidents would showcase this optimism and tension as they led the country through some of its hardest challenges yet. Welcome back to RAC’s Presidential Parks series, where we take a look at the presidents of the United States through the national parks that honor and define them. Today, we discuss the lives of John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson, and how they changed the country (and the national parks) forever.
