@@Dr_KAP Yes perhaps the 1979 was the first time it was uploaded?? I know Don Lane had John on his show about the age of 19 and this looks like it might be from the Don Lane Show. Just guessing though. Regardless of age John is one of the most talented performers I've ever seen. You could be in an audience of thousands and feel he is singing just to you lol. I've posted this to one of his fan pages and a member there is trying to get it to John. Fingers crossed. I think we'd need a medic for Dominic if this happens lol....You might need to be on stand by. lol

@@justlinsu oh geez that would be super exciting as this is my request so if John saw it I’d be over the moon!! The Don Lane show started in 1975 so fairly sure this was 1979. There was definitely NO KZbin in 1979 😆 so it isn’t an upload date. He appeared on Don Lane in November of 79 and was 30 years old 😉

As much as America missed out on John Farnham, as much as they didn't understand what genre to try and sell him in, there was one American that was passionately in Johns corner through all the low points and in this period when his career was a bit in the wilderness. Don Lane, an expat American (the show this was recorded from is the Don Lane show) was a huge, huge supporter of John, and was always keen to have him on the show and performing. He was very much responsible for helping turn John into the absolute powerhouse performer and stage presence that he soon became.

Wasn't John just the cutest thing back in the day? The girls loved him. Notice he acknowledged the pianist? Always gives credit to the musicians who support him. Might have also noticed that his voice had less gravel in his younger days. This was a powerful performance. It seems to me, being an old lady, that John has always given 110% to any song he sings across decades. Singing his heart out. Just wow!

Let me tell you a quick story.. Firstly, John was born in 1949 in Dagenham, England and moved to Australia in 1959 My beautiful Mum, who is 80 this Saturday, and also born in the UK and came to Australia in 1956, worked at a "cement brick" maker in the 60s as a young PA/Executive Assistant. She was the CO's assistant. THis is in my hometown of Adelaide, South Australia (where John first started). One of the brick salesmen was a man called Darryl Sambell, who happened to be "Little Johnny Farnham's" first Manager (he also ripped him off quite badly, but thats another story). On a Friday night, John would wait in the car-park for Darryl to finish work, to drive him and chaperone him to gigs as he was too young to drive/drink or basically be inside venues. He did a few "Battle of the Bands" and his band then backed a woman who was also a friend of my Mums, Bev Harrell. All of the secretaries would swoon all over him in the car park, all blushing and fluttering their eyes, 60s style.. One of my Mums fondest memories..

I've known John's music since I was 13 years old, and seen his career. He is an extremely humble guy, and has never considered himself as possibly the best singer Australia has seen. We that grew up with him do, and also know that he probably struggled through the days after his initial king of pop days, through to Whispering Jack. It took Glen Wheatley to convince John that Whispering Jack was the big one. Glen put everything he had on the line for John to record that. That's how much the people who knew and know John, believe in him. Don Lane did so much to help John through this time, when John did this song. Don Lane was one of the finest people in show business, and no better Ambassador came out of the States. John Farnham is one of the finest people in Aussie show business, and that's before he even starts to sing!

John Farnham can sing the phone book a it will sound awesome . Born 1949 in eastern London suburb . His family migrated to Australia when he was 10 years of age . Started being the singer of few Melbourne bands from 14 playing at school dances . Until he was discovered by manger Daryl Sambell and was convince to be a solo singer . At 18 Daryl got him recording deal with EMI Australia but they made Johnny to middle of road crossover novelty pop singer , when John loved pop rock and soul and was trying to write his own songs but his management and EMI kept him far too busy to develop musically . John popularity by the late 70’s was lost even EMI dumped him . This recording is for a the Don Lane Show where John appeared on the regular basis during those tough times with no recording contract regarded as as been by his critics . Boy did he show them when the 80’s hit and gaining friendship management with Glenn Wheatley who believed in John’s abilities .

The song is Gethsemane, pronounced with a hard G Geth-sem-uh-knee. It is the name of the garden where Jesus prayed before he was arrested. The song is part of Jesus Christ Superstar musical.

John was involved with some variety tv series between his teen idol years and the Uncovered album and there are some exquisite performances in there...probably doing tracks the producers wanted him too but still slaying them. Thank you again.
