My calculus professor, a retired Navy Captain and engineer, back when I was a young Airman taking night classes, once said to us, "If you want to study man, study law, politics, or even religion. If you want to study God, study math and science." He had a great point.

Numero pondere et mensura Deus omnia condidit. God created everything by number, weight and measure. - Sir Isaac Newton On more than one occasion, Newton wrote these Latin words as his autograph, with his signature. In Gilles Personne de Roberval's Aristarchi Samii de Mundi Systemate (1644), he frequently uses the abbreviation “P.N.E.M.” standing for “Pondere, mensura et mensura.” It was adopted as the motto of the Smeatonian Society of Engineers as “Omnia in Numero Pondere et Mensura.”

This man John Lennox has just helped me regain my Faith in Christianity, I felt lost and defeated because most of my colleagues around me who were in Science would often mock me for being “The Christian Physicist” however, seeing this made me realise how right I’ve been about God the whole time and how wrong the people who berated me truly are.

Science isn't about god(s), it purposely restricts itself to the truths about the material world, which is an important part but far from the entirety of human experiences. Science can merely inform a human being about what is the case, never about whether or not a human being should do something about it nor what a human being should do about it if so. This self imposed restriction doesn't go for religions as religions are mainly about what we ought to do.

The flat earthers who bully, have power of employment or passing uni or school for that matter and mobbing Christians who have spent so many years of study, have poor thinking skills, prejudices or do not define issues, the education level of the general population and science graduates from uni regarding evolution and its facts limitations assumptions is quite appalling, then you combine it with the dreadfully poor standards of our churches makes it a hard slog .... so glad you found John Lennox and his exposition of the bible as I did....

@@kobi219 Science does not make God obsolete, it merely chose to restrict itself to address only those things that don't require a concept of God to explain them. Science and theology are merely different branches of philosophy based on different axioms. If you want to know what is materialistically the case, then science is the best model. If you want to know what to do about it, then you need a religion as science can merely infrom you about what is, not about what you ought to do about it. Science itself when proporly done is to be admired, as Thomas Aquinas argued over 800 years ago, both nature and scripture have God as their divine author so neither can be at fault. Science studies nature and thus when proporly done it can't be at fault either. Hence when a fallible human being perceives a discrepancy between science and scripture it's not that science or scripture is at fault but instead that fallible human being didn't proporly understand one or the other or possibly didn't understand either. Scientism on the other hand is an ideology and one of the greatests threats to science. It's the difference between someone wanting to learn the truth and doing scientific observations, experiments and reasoning for themselves and someone who refers to what some scientist may have said to be taken as authority. It's this ideology that is being used as a weapon, actual science by itself doesn't even provide a motivation to share ones findings. Both science and religion often get hijacked for personal political gains, in both cases the result is similar: corruption. Personally I don't see God as coexisting, I rather see God as existing itself. I can see a front wheel of a bicycle coexisting with the rear wheel or the saddle of that bicycle, but I can't see the frond wheel of a bicycle coexisting with that bicycle since the front wheel is already part of that bicycle. In order to coexist it must be separate from not part of, but perhaps you have been using the verb 'to coexist' differently. What do you get when you combine science with politics: politics What do you get when you combine religion with politics: also politics.

@nonprogrediestregredi1711 Жыл бұрын
@deebrightassociates Yes I can; all within the first twenty seconds of the video. He states that atheism gives him no explanation of why mathematics works. If he were using critical thinking skills to be rational, he would understand that atheism does not have anything to do with why mathematics works. Atheism only addresses one proposition; whether or not one is convinced in the existence of a god or gods. Whether or not mathematics works is irrelevant to being convinced of said proposition; an unfalsifiable proposition, that is. Also, it is irrelevant that Newton, Faraday, Kepler, etc were theists as that is an argument from authority.
@deebrightassociates
@deebrightassociates Жыл бұрын
@@nonprogrediestregredi1711 I appreciate your perspective on this matter, but I believe there are a few points that need further examination. While it is true that atheism, in its most basic definition, deals with the lack of belief in gods or deities, it is important to acknowledge that worldviews often encompass more than just a single proposition. Atheism, in practice, often involves a naturalistic worldview, which seeks to explain the world and its phenomena without reference to the supernatural. In the video when he mentions that atheism provides no explanation for why mathematics works, he is likely referring to the broader philosophical implications of atheism, particularly within a naturalistic worldview. Without invoking a higher intelligence or a transcendent foundation for the universe, some atheists find it challenging to account for the existence of abstract entities such as mathematical principles and the laws that govern them. Now, it is true that the he might have misattributed the problem solely to atheism. It would be more accurate to say that naturalism, a philosophical position often associated with atheism, struggles to provide a satisfactory explanation for the existence and efficacy of mathematics. This point is not intended to prove or disprove the existence of God, but rather to highlight a perceived limitation within certain atheistic worldviews. Regarding your mention of Newton, Faraday, Kepler, and other theistic scientists, it is true that appealing to authority alone does not prove a position. However, their beliefs are relevant in this context because they serve as examples of highly influential and accomplished scientists who found harmony between their faith and their scientific pursuits. Their belief in a rational Creator provided them with a framework to understand and explore the order and precision of the natural world through mathematics.

@@raulhernannavarro1903 Bro, life is much more complicated than simple sequestration of amino acids in the proper order. Seventy years as you say and what do you have? Seventy years of intelligence poured into a process and still no results. Either the intelligence is lacking or the task is daunting. One of the issues facing current scientists is that there's so much information and many are concerned and consumed with their little corner of knowledge. A broader application of the current knowledge of known molecular biology is needed and rarely considered by many in their quest for knowledge and truth. For instance, the next time you consider the mixing and creating amino acids to form the building blocks of life. intertwine amino acid formation with the formation of biological machinery. Biological machinery is what the amino acids are formed into. I doubt you'll look at this video because you already have your mind made up. This isn't a religious video it's Ted Talk and it's a 9 min presentation\ animation of the molecular machinery needed in order to unravel DNA for new cell division and growth. 70 or 70 trillion years, it's highly improbable that random processes could achieve this one necessary step of life i.e. the unwrapping of DNA. They read the Bible through in a year, but how much can they recall three days after reading a passage? How many verses have they 'implanted' in their life so they are an approved workman? How many people have they shared the Gospel of Christ with which we have all been commanded to share? How many people have they discipled after leading them to the Lord of the universe? I lost faith in God and became (I thought) an atheist while still a teen. It was science that led me to this decision simply because I did not understand faith. One who understands faith can see God's logic in science and math. When John Lennox mentions the human genome, he nails it! Faith comes only to those who allow it and don't fight it. Facts like how unlikely the human genome simply "happened" by chance can lead us to explore faith. As a young adult, I realized that faith comes to those who explore it. Once we comprehend faith, God becomes obvious.

Lennox at 1:47: “I was a teenager at the time when I discovered that it was quite clear that science didn't give us a full picture.” This is an amusing statement. Christianity and the Bible give no picture of reality only, only fables, myths, and no knowledge or information on the world and the universe.

A brilliant author & teacher I have had the privilege of meeting. The laws of science suggest a Law Giver makes a great deal of sense to my mind. Rather than asking is it God or the laws of science behind the origin of the universe, we can see best explanation is both. God ('agency') uses scientific laws ('mechanism') to create an orderly universe out of nothing. John Lennox helped me understand that many years ago. As an artist with a gallery - I often refer to the beauty of the world as 'God's business card.' Nothing can't make everything, nor can nothing create everything & make it as beautifully & complex as the world we live in.

Thank you for addressing the severity of the teaching of evolution. Most people don't realize how effective this lie has been. The real tragedy is that the creation model is much more credible. As a Bible teacher, I've also had many mothers coming to me and telling me that their children left the faith due to the teachings of evolution. A common remark, "Mom, how can you still believe that stuff?" And for the most part, the church does very little to combat this. I have devoted much time and energy to fighting this lie of the devil. If any anyone is interested, I have an in-depth presentation with an accompanying slide show in which I have argued and pointed out the absurdities of the beliefs of many icons of evolution, i.e. Dawkins and Krauss. I would be more than happy to share this with anyone interested. I can assure you that it's laid out in a format that would be easy for anyone to present. And with the help of a Hebrew scholar, it presents views that incorporate modern day physics in a way that actually verifies the Genesis account.

As a mathematician I can only agree with John Lennox, there are good arguments for God. And among these, one by Leibniz convinces me the most: a version of the argument of 'eternal truths' put forward by Augustine and ultimately going back to Plato. Leibniz argues that spaceless and timeless immaterial truths, such as the laws of logic or mathematical theorems, apply independently of any real world and can therefore only be grounded in the Logos of God. Following Leibniz, there must be something that this non-material reality is based on: that something is God »as the ultimate basis of the being or nature of things that are possible - and of necessary or eternal truths: 'If there were no eternal substance, there could be no eternal truths'. God is seen as the root of what is possible, for his spirit is the realm of ideas or truths.« [ Maria Rosa Antognazza, »Leibniz, a very short introduction«]. It is not without a certain irony that materialist atheists, for whom thought is ultimately mere "reflexes" (as Dennet once explained), claim "truth" and logic (obviously two immaterial categories) for their supposed 'knowledge'. And if they think that using logic and mathematics, they can explain a naturalistic materialism in which neither of them actually exists (or is ultimately just "reflexes"...). 😆😆😆

Something just dawned on me one day. Those who think Science and God are opposed to one another, should pay attention here. The first thing God brought forth in Genesis was energy in the form of light. He then spoke everything into existence. To speak is to emit sound. Sound = vibration. So now we have vibration being applied to energy. Leading Physicist and Co-founder of String Field Theory Mechio Kaku Describes physical reality as strings of energy vibrating at different frequencies, to form the various densities of matter. He once likened it to "A symphony of vibrating strings, playing the universe".

In the beginning there was a vibration, and this vibration had such energy to it, that through it all things were formed and would be found. Much akin to an idea or an opinion that occurs suddenly in the mind without thinking, yet corresponding to some distinct entity essential in feature to what it was, this vibration went by a name. Its name was Thought and Love was its only way of thinking. And such was Love's thinking within Thought, that it had all the strength and vitality that was needed to sustain to the fullest degree, every physical and mental activity required to make things whole, yet not entirely holy save but one much needed thing. Although Thought asked of Love to lend to it its voice, Love at first said nothing but waited, because that is what Love does; it waits. Thought could see that Love was thinking, and it seemed to Thought that perhaps Love knew not quite what to say. And as Time passed by as it invariably does, Thought began to wonder why if Love was everything of meaning, it had no meaning to answer. Looking again to Love as Love thought not to look elsewhere, there was still nothing there, just as there is nothing more serenely still than Love as Peace it lends us, a thought our thinking has yet to truly know. Therefore, and as was Thought’s wont, it began to think again: "If Love answers not then it has no needs, as would Reason have it be that neither does Love ask for anything." As Love remained silent, and more silent even still, Thought looked about the seemingly empty space within which it had found itself vibrating, and where for Love as is Love's promise the premise of Hope (and Hope's premise Love's promise in Life) nothing is ever held not true. At that moment, and for but the briefest period of time beyond Time itself more singular than was any period that went before, Thought became so fully aware of something as fact to understand it clearly and without condition; the most beautiful relationships we can have with each other, they are centred in Love, and with nothing in between that anything is split in two. Once realised, Thought began to accommodate all thinking to this as so should you, and fears no longer entered the mind of man, since it was never part of Love's overall plan.

Apparently he thought his arguments were to do away with that. And in a way a lot of mathematics is discovered through diffusive thinking, when you aren't working at the problem at all and the solution naturally comes... you can read a lot of computer programmers who solve problems the same way. Initially I had a hard time Understanding why John Lennox called Mathematics one of the languages of God and how it helped Reinforce his Faith in God. It partially helped me understand what he was saying after I looked up the word 'semiotic'. I work with people speaking foreign languages. Even without understanding their language, by their gestures or facial expression etc I was able to Partially understand them. By learning their language however, I Was able to understand them better and appreciate their profoundness of thought ...and in many cases their Intrinsic brilliance. .. Similarly understanding mathematics helps man understand more about God's creation , it's consistency and organization......for example planetary motion.. by better understanding the universe we get a glimpse of how great God is. Language involves words. God , outside space and time, spoke 'words' and the universe came to exist. It is in this sense that mathematics is a language..., a useful tool to better understand the language of God. Similarly learning about DNA.... DNA, in a sense, the Common thread of all life, helps us understand more about the indescribable brilliance of God. as well as the sounds he made at the time of creation of the universe. . This understanding gives us a glimpse into his greatness and his consistency. God gave us the ability to understand math and science and therefore a glimpse Of who he is and how great he is. When he made the greatest of all sounds at the instant of creation of the universe, even though we have no idea what it sounded like, in effect It put gravity, mass, energy and life into existence. Because of science, and biblical revelation, we have a superficial but deeper understanding of what these 'words' meant.. In other words a deep understanding of the beauty of the glorius sound that God made at the instant of creation. We see God's signature in everything that surrounds us.. After seeing a few Frank Lloyd Wright houses, I was instantly able to recognize his style. It is very consistent. In a far deeper and broader sense, All that God touches is Recognizable and profoundly consistent. His consistency Includes the ability he gave us to recognize and better appreciate his work. This consistency extends to biblical revelation and all that exists. In this sense Jesus Christ, the creator, is the Source and therefore the substance, the most fundamental part of all that exists.As Bob Dylan said, ''' I could never learn to drink that blood and call it wine'' .Forgive me for rambling but I thought this might be helpful for someone else. This level of understanding, albeit pedantic and primitive, helped fortify my faith.

But the matter was solidified and confirmed (if that is the right term) by 'the laws of nature' working so well in harmony. The Bible records the writings of - all those people (I don't have time to record them all) - and in Genesis it says "...God created the Heavens and the Earth." In John1:3 it tells ".. apart from Him, not one thing was created that has been created." Therefore, God created all the 'laws of nature'. It works too well not to have been planned.

Why are the basically zero accounts of Matthew 27:51-53? Would have been the greatest event in human/world history, I'm waiting. .

It's so amazing the demonstration that Jesus revealed to humanity. Then, it's just blocked out and erased from the world. Wake up people! He has risen from the dead,and he Lord. Praise God that we are seeing God's word coming to life in this generation ! Elon has nothing over Jesus !

Hi The original Hebrew text of the Bible is mathematically constructed, as Ivan Panin the great Russian mathematician discovered to his chagrin! He WAS an atheist wanting to DEBUNK the Bible and God, but was humbled and saved in the process! HalleluYa Shalom to us only in Christ Yeshua returning soon to reign over the world from Jerusalem forever.
