I heard the Turning Point album nearly everywhere when it first came out, it was like a cool breeze whenever it was on. Great memories of those times and people I shared it with. Sadly, too many people forget what we had back then but at least the music endures.

Unbelievable that this exists. Thanks, Cactus. Saw these guys many times, late 60's early 70;s. Loved every John Mayall lineup, but this was one of my favorites. The great Johnny Almond. Steven Thompson and Jon Mark. And THE MAN himself.

I started playing the flute and then sax in 1973. The first band I played in around '75 our front man turned me on to this album 'Turning Point'. We both wished I could be half as good as Johnny Almond and while I'm still playing to this day, Johnny A is one of the champions of the flute and sax and here he is in action! Playing with a man that I've seen ten times over the years and always dug, the great John Mayall. This is priceless video. Thanks for posting this Cactus!

That wasn't the "Blues breakers" Mayall took a break from the Blues breakers and formed this band. It was an acoustic project and didn't not have a drummer. John Mark and Steven Thompson were part of the band. I saw them at the Olympic Auditorium during the U.S. tour. You can hear a live version of their album. It's called John Mayall The Turning Point. It's very good.

The entire album was unique in it's time. It was the first departure for Mayal from straight ahead blues format adding the jazz influence of Jon Mark and Johnny Almond. Note the absence of drums here as well. Perhaps this is why the album is named "The Turning Point".

This was a time where Americans had the balls to step to the plate and express their opinions. OUTSTANDING MUSIC which is contrary to the garbage all the bands leaking through the systematic cracks shove down the peoples throats. The sad thing is they buy today's copycrap shiite with no attachments and this kind of music was virtually given away, at the time, with a wonderfully hallucinagetic cup of Cool-Aid. POWER TO THE PEOPLE!!!

@frxvt John Mayall was making a comment on the civil rights violations which were rampant at the time. Like he says, "the laws should fit the crime'. I'm guessing you weren't alive back then, through the civil rights era of the late 50s through the 70s when things were changing quickly but there were still serious violations of civil liberties. Especially on students who were protesting the Vietnam War and the murders of JFK, RFK & MLK. John was just making comment about the life & times. :)

@frxvt Lenny Bruce was a controversial political satyrist, like Mort Sahl and Dick Gregory, whose sharp tongue and sarcasm was often misunderstood and more harshly criticised because of his free thinking, and often random dialogue, which veered in obscentity. He was arrested for profanity for using 'schmuck' ( a Yiddish slang) at a gig in California. Lenny was known for relating the details of his encounters with police, & ranted he was denied 'freedom of speech' under the 1st Amendment.

@91Kingscrib8412 жыл бұрын
Your lyrics are accurate. But the meaning of his song is that penalties for civil rights protests, possession of pot etc. don't necesarily mesh with the sentence & it was (is) time for the the two to jibe instead of being so scewed against the accused! Look at what just happened in South Africa! The miners were fired on by the police for their protest against low wages - & the PEOPLE have been charged with an old law from the Apartheid days, for subborning a protest! The time has surely come!
