Absolutely amazing interpretation. Couldn't have done it without Kenny. Love seeing mellencamp and aronoff back together!

Thank you John for illustrating the lyrics... for all those who lived it, like my father.

Hurts so good. Art/music that can make you feel other people's pain is as important art that just makes you feel good, and a lot harder to pull off. John restored that quality to the song (and for some people there he made it clear for the first time). That was one of the most powerful and moving performances I've ever seen.

Tim Walz - THIS one's for YOU !!!! I got a small tear in my eye - KNOWING you LOVE BRUCE - Kenny Aronoff (on drums) adds AUTHENTICITY to this SPRINGSTEEN "Anthem" .... If you don't mind me saying You should use it as YOUR ANTHEM coupled with John's "SMALL TOWN" everyone will LOVE Melloncamp doing THIS !!! TRUST Me !!! (at the END at 2:30 when Kenny "kicks IT IN" and John's Band adds LIFE and JOY and Bruce's SIGNATURE Sound !!)

ron Chad that’s Kenny Aronoff. He was the drummer in Mellencamp’s band for like 25 years. Now he’s basically the drummer for hire for any major award show.

wow, an artist, rendition of another artists work, in complete bravura virtuosity, heartfelt & meaningful, not an interpretation, nor imitation, just a meaningful & heartfelt rendition.

This was probably one of the first times many in the crowd had ever actually heard or listened to the words. Not the rock anthem they always thought it was but the true meaning behind the song. Bruce plays the slower version at shows now.
@nightsketcher4 жыл бұрын
I'd listened and heard the words before but never felt them like that. It looked like Bruce appreciated what was happening. And it was depressing to hear so many people clapping with relief and smiling with the fun of it when it switched to the familiar rock anthem. But John brought them back to earth. Very effective.

Awesome....simply awesome, John Mellencamp is the BEST
Gotta love that shot of Brubeck. In his 80s and still as fucking cool as anyone in the room.

1:48 The man sitting behind the First Lady gets it. This was so powerfully performed. Sometimes an artist is so phenomenal with their delivery of a truly riveting song, that it literally makes you sit at the edge of your seat & hang on every word.

I love this performance, Really tells the Vietnam story. I don't think that the President liked it but think that the first lady got it. They where to young to really understand the impact the the war had on us.

Different for sure, but certainly not bad. And it's always good to see Kenny Aronoff. Oh, and I wanted to hear "I'm a kool rockin' daddy in the U.S.A.". Can't help but wonder what Bruce thought, but what the hell, Dave Brubeck was diggin' it.

Um...Did all of these people going crazy over this song hear the same one I heard? I only looked this up because I'm a JCM fan for like 30 years now. I heard about this show and never saw it. And I thought he SUUUUUUUUCKED!!!!!!!! What was with the talk-sing-pause-sing-pause-pause-sing-talk-pause-talk-sing CRAP he was doing? Losing his touch. BIGTIME.

@@daviddaskalnojokeradio 7 years ago, he said he was a fan of JMC for 30 years then. Obviously, he's never heard this song to know the pauses in between verses. Dude is probably dead by now.

Love Mellecamp but do not like this version. As he gets older he gets "tamer". His strength as he gets older is his song writing. He has gone from an excellent song writer to an all time great. Performance wise he is oast his prime.

Pretty certain you missed the point of this version.
