The mixed couple dancing was a big statement when he's singing about the late 60s in rural Indiana. He doesn't get enough respect.

Saw him on the Lonesome Jubilee tour, the album Cherry Bomb is on, back in 1988. Front row seats. One of the best gigs I've been to. Lonesome Jubilee is a brilliant album. My love for music is so diverse, I could listen to some jazz, rock, soul, rap, pop, even some country , so it was no surprise that I loved MTV in the 80’s . In the first few years of MTV they only played rock, but they became very diverse and you heard some great sounds from different kinds of artists. We grooved to all of it, and John Cougar Mellencamp gave us so much cool music and he himself added many of other kinds of sounds in his music over the years .

Thats the year i graduated...😂87. I saw john in the 80s and again in the 90s. I took my daughter to see him for her first concert ever. She was 5, so it had to be summer of 99, right before she turned 6. To this day, she listens to a lot of music, but she likes him still and a lot of the other music i made her listen to growing up. She saw Kiss when she was 6. Lol. Except she hates the Greatful Dead. When she was a teenager and guitar hero and rock band was big, i used to play the song Truckin by them really loud just to annoy her.😂😂😂

When John Cougar first hit in the early 80s I lived near him. And you'd see him out and about shopping and whatnot. No entourage. Nothing. And people pretty much left him alone. But it was cool being in college and having one of the biggest stars "among you" and singing about things that happened at places you know.

I hate to be a drag but, what about the symbolism of a young black man dancing with a young white woman? As I recall, at one time, that was considered a no no. I think a young man was put to death because of this. So sorry to have to point that out but, I think it something Mellencamp is trying to get across. Idk, just my take.
@mirasolbalaga56162 ай бұрын
I agree. I thought they would have noticed. That’s not being a drag, because it was intentional by Mellencamp. He originally wanted Jack and Diane to be about an interracial couple.
