There was a recent article on CBR about the disgusting treatment of T'Challa in comics over the last few years. I have an idea for Marvel, stop writing T'Challa like an incompetent king, a selfish leader, and a general unlikeable asshole. Stop having T'Challa get his ass handed to him every issue and needing his little sister come to his rescue.....maybe then the books will appeal to longtime fans.

Feels like The X-Office runs BP. They hate T’Challa for who knows what reason and we have got nothing good since the end of Hickman Avengers Run. I swear the requirement to write Black Panther is hating T’Challa. They do nothing but crap on this character with no positive feats or characterization. And I really hate Shuri as Super Genius bleeding in from the MCU into Comics. Amazing Coates had few good ideas with Griot basically a Druid. And they refused to use that for Shuri. SMFH.

Marvel Comics is just as Hollywood as Marvel Studios. If it doesn't work or doesn't sell, don't worry about fixing the problem or getting a new (i.e. better) writer, just reboot it. Continuity in comics is long dead and that's a shame.

I think characters like T challa, Kamala, shang chi and etc are trapped in a prison of twitters own making. Where marvel will only put people on their books if they have a similar diversity status with them, and not whether or not, they would write a great story with them. If I had my way, I'd want Jonathan Hickman to write black panther cause his style of writing would have done wonders for the world building of Wakanda. Heck, before he got kicked out of X Men, he wanted to bring back the child of T Challa and Storm for his x men run before he got kicked out due to other writers having plans on their own for krakoa. Which makes him being on black panther make more sense since he wouldn't have to worry about to many chefs in the kitchen. But no, instead they get eve Ewing who's a meh writer. I read her Ironheart run and outlawed event, and they were just meh while her Monica Rambeau book just......you know she's just on here cause she fits the diversity status and not whether or not she had a good pitch or anything

T'Challa is the ruler of one of the most formidable nations in the Marvel U. He is one of the eight smartest men on Earth (see "Fall of the Hulks.") He has beefed with the likes of Victor Von Doom and Namor. He was one of the most feared and respected heroes in the whole of Marvel. ... So *HOW THE FCCK* did we get to the point where T'Challa is being treated like Kamala Harris Khan and Karl Danvers?? Part of me wonders that this is deliberate. Marvel probably thinks instead of writing all their characters better and uphold continuity, then if those annoying fans won't accept our modern offerings, let's start destroying the characters they already really like. Would not be surprised if, after T'Challa has been ground into the dirt by Marvel, they try to push his little sister as the "female and therefore superior" Black Panther. Again.

During Reginald Hudlin (who I actually really liked on BP until his 4th run or whatever in 2015 or so) 2005 run the Shuri Black Panther was basically a minor subplot that lasted less than 10 issues and she was never given the official title by Wakanda. I quite enjoyed it. (His 2015 run is where they went all in on Shuri BP and it absolutely sucked.)

T’Challa needs a break and then a back to basics approach in the comics. The intergalactic Panther arc took him SO far away from his roots that now, it’s almost impossible to ground the character anymore. It’s the same escalation problem that Batman has. The spectacle has become more important than just showing T’Challa as a competent and kick ass ruler, who’s devotion, determination, intelligence and compassion were the aspects that made readers love him. I remember when Cebulski took over of Marvel, and he tried to actually do his job and cancelled multiple books in an attempt to control the bleeding. Then the Hollywood cry-bullies showed him who really is boss, not the assistant editors, nor the editors and sure as hell not him. They neutered him so hard, he's reduced to tweeting about nothing but food, because at his age, if he loses this job, he's going to be LITERALLY STARVING on the street. YOU and I think that the Akira Yoshida thing wasn't big, but in Hollywood and Disney? That's not JUST a career ender, if they make it into a bigger thing, it's over. Wes I agree with MOST of what you said. I do see why Marvel keeps rebooting Black Panther. The sequel is still out in cinemas. So from a business perspective, I would want a Panther title to be on shelves too. Marvel needs to take Black Panther back to basics. No more Panther crews or Starships or whatever. I really wouldn't be angry if they just left all that rubbish behind & not mention it again.

ah yes I remember back when people had hope for marvel comics. Now a days? There never was much hope, just a fools hope. They clearly don't care about money at all, otherwise they would let the character rest for awhile , [so demand and hype for the character coming back can exist] rather than pumping it out nonstop. The problem is that John Ridley obviously doesn't know or care about T'challa. How in the world can you write Storm upset with T'challa after she sided with the X-men during the Avengers vs X-men, and Namor flooded Wakanda, while she was Queen; beat up Shuri and stole Skybreaker in Marauders #13? There's an agenda at Marvel to keep the two most prominent black characters apart. Ridley wrote the story to have the Avengers upset with T'challa about his contengicy plans, yet he told them a long time ago why he joined. Furthermore, how many times have heroes been mind controlled? Didn't Tony Stark and Reed Richards clone Thor without his knowledge? Doesn't Tony Stark have armor to take down heroes? Hulkbuster? Thorbuster? Even an armor to fight T'challa, but he still lost that fight. Vision went off the rails and Wanda as well. But T'challa is the problem? I don't blame the stupid writer as much as I do the Editor and Editor in chief. I want Storm and T'challa back together. Reed and Sue have been together how long? Miss me with the fact that she is off world. Spiderman, Wolverine, Cable and the Punisher were EVERYWHERE in the 90's.

So to address the restarts, this is how they see the market. No matter what title it is outside a legacy conic like Spider-Man. This topic I wouldn't mind chatting with Wes about again. They expect a series to survive just so long, probably sell X many copies, be canceled, and start all over again. Usually there is some kind built in termination point to the story just in case it does worse then expected. Now this is not new to industry, but more then ever before I'd say the publishers just see the market as limited to X, so they have these expectations. Where as before they may seen market as broader in scope and have better expectations. And they obviously don't want to go limited series route because then they assume X many won't buy the series cause they'll just wait for the trade. So when editorial business practices change, or the market changes, just keep expecting this as annoying as it is. All Black Panther series should be limited until the numbers justify ongoing. It can be fixed, hell I think I could I fix it, but it's gotta come top down to work and take some business pain. WTF20

I actually liked Eve's Ironheart series and she's a better writer than coates and ridley put together on their best day.😂 So I have some hope but we need to address the elephant in the room its a disservice to only have black writers write Black Panther they are gonna run out of ppl soon. I remember I pissed off Afua the artist on Black Panther reboot back in 2015 -2016. Because I told her the comic has been canceled and rebooted at least 3 or 4 times. Over a span of 40 yrs. Yet the Black Panther comic has been canceled and relaunched at least 3 or 4 times the last 5 yrs. As a black Marvel comic reader I know and just expect that certain black character comics naturally just struggle when it comes to sells over a long period of time. No matter who the character is or how well the character is known. Black Panther is one of the comics. Christopher Priest Black Panther early Marvel Knights run ( 1999 -2000 something) was the definitive BP run. And the first movie was based on the character and stories from this run. Modern Marvel just sucks. Most major titles hace been canceled and relaunched.

Ridley 's style seems classic part of the - "so what if it makes NO sense if it makes MY(!) story go where I(!) want! Whatever happened before I got here is irrelevant "baggage" unless I(!) say so" - attitude that's made some comix so unreadable for me. But Ridley's ... transgressions were apparently sanctioned by Marvel higher ups who've seemed to have a ... schizophrenic approach to Black Panther for a while now. They clearly want the character to be financially successful for them; but without becoming "too" popular. Christopher Priest's run, one of the best ever was sabotaged by the apparently editorial decision to abrubly impose the Kasper Cole character, derailing an existing plot line. T'Challa & Orroro's wedding was very popular, selling lots of books. Than Marvel pandered to haters ( external & internal) who claimed a Black woman marrying a Black man was a "cliche"(?!?) The MCU T'Challa was extremely popular, making lots of money for Marvel/DISNEY. Then they pandered to the irrational notion that discarding the character that Chadwick Boseman strove through a fatal illness to establish an ongoing cinema icon would "honor"(?!?) him. Despiteall all this T'Challa/Black Panther remained popular enough to have leading positions in three different team comix, nearly simultaneously. Marvel's response?: Turn his book over to a big name writer who apparently knows NOTHING &/or just doesn't care $#!+ about the characters' preexisting abilities, history, prersonality traits, or relationships. One of those writers w/ a history of discarding little annoyances/ like high points of character/story history that might conflict w/ his wants. Regardless of how readers felt; it was apparently fine to Marvel editorial that Riley was doing his part to undermine T'Challa & Storm getting back together; and undermining T'Challa's popularity and influence. At least until sales took a huge dive. Now they're bringing in a new writer to try and sell more comix w/ a new book; and a new? BP? Maybe they think/hope(?) Ridley's irreversibly broke T'Challa's character? Maybe that was the real intent all along? The character isn't "broken", needing to be replaced. Regardless of Ms. Ewing intent or talent; it won't matter if Marvel doesn't stop doing things to undermine T'Challa whenever someone decides he's getting "too big for his britches".

The Ta-nehisi Coates Black Panther run wasn't rebooted. The Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda has been mentioned multiple times in the Wakanda#1 (2022) series. TChalla in the Ta-nehisi Coates run is still emperor and TChalla has been mentioned being emperor and the Intergalactic empire of wakanda has been mentioned. John riddleys run can get rebooted. But Ta-nehisi Coates Black panther run was not rebooted

Hire a team of editors to stabilize the titles and have the power to hire good writers who aren't out for their own ego -- but to tell good stories about characters they love for -- hold on to your hats folks -- more than 12 issues. This is the problem with pro segregation modern Marvel and their racist typecast hiring practices. Coates, Ridley and Ewing have all been hired because they're the same race as the title character. Coates was best known for writing divisive articles on white supremacy, Ridley was best known for writing about slavery (& personally being a strike breaker) and Ewing was best known for poetry and academic pieces about racism in American schools. 3 writers who excel at writing about victimisation being tasked with writing a privileged king and superhero?! Marvel try to justify discriminatory, affirmative action hirings by claiming they just want writers who can do authentic versions of characters due to personal experience- but surely hiring writers familiar with the established characterisation and continuity should be the main priority for that goal? Lee, Kirby, Don McGregor and Christopher Priest struck gold with Black Panther by making him as far removed from victim culture as possible- their Black Panther was a man who had it all: a power fantasy figure with universal appeal and no racist stereotypes about being oppressed or held down by anyone.

Since when would T'Challa just take it from Captain America and when would Steve even talk to T'Challa to him like that. Rather than reasoning with him to see his point. What on earth are they doing to this guy. To look back at the 70's who he was to now. Recently the conversations between Namor and T'Challa was rather engaging. Dr. Doom, Namor, T'Challa are rulers that take their kingdom's above all else. Now he's just some selfish inept ruler.

Both DC and Marvel need to realize novelists writing comics isn't the easiest leap. Sure, Neil Gaiman can do it but he wrote Sandman for years. But getting a Jodi Picoult or a Coates to write comics is a big mistake.. Writing novels is filling up maybe 300-700 pages. For ONE story. A lot of novelists cant seem to get the rhythm of serial storytelling. The Dark Tower series by Marvel was how to do it right. Have the author work with someone like Peter David who is a storytelling master in the medium

Some voices inside Marvel were immediately anti- T'Challa & Storm. In fact a Marvel staffer was the first I heard complaining about them both being Black people. Since Ridley's atrocious depictions of their relationship was no pandering to that anti-T'Challa & Orroro mentality; I've little doubt his attempt to make T'Challa seem gay was part of that agenda. And Marvel Comics seems as hellbent on keeping them apart as the MCU was on killing T'Challa. Some drank the FOOL-Aide that killing MCU T'Challa was about "honoring" Chadwick Boseman. I think this new BP title has been really good, in the growth of the character Tchalla. What are you talking about. And really with legacy numbering, it isn't a reboot, they just give each new writer a #1 comic to start with. You're wrong that John Ridley's story was bad. It is really decent

If you think this run is "decent" then you starlight up have bad taste. Simple as that, your taste is garbage. The run is a dumpster fire that disregards canon and writes T'Challa like a feckless moron. Nothin to do with yt boys either, if you're black and you like this you're a borderline coon tbh cuz I don't see what there is to like about T'Challa being perpetually humiliated for 15 issues, coming off the heels of the last run that started out with him being a slave.
