part 5: • John Salley Addresses ...
part 3: • John Salley: Kobe Ente...
part 1: • John Salley Doubles Do...
----
In this clip, John Salley explained where the origin of the perceived beef between Michael Jordan and Isiah Thomas started. According to John, it was sparked by Isiah's nephew wearing a Chicago Bulls jersey which made Isiah develop a certain disdain for the Bulls. But John explained further that it wasn't personal. He also said that the story of MJ keeping Isiah off the Dream Team was a myth and in fact, it was Magic Johnson's doing which kept him from making the Olympic squad.
Later on, John Salley talked about the Bulls becoming a force only after Scottie Pippen assumed more responsibility and that the narrative around the "Bad Boys" of the Detroit Pistons was started by Phil Jackson.

Hating someone as a person is different than how you veiw them as a competitor. Everybody hates a vicious bad dog, unless that Dog is guarding their house. See what I mean....it all changes when you are on my team.

SilverBlackGorilla wrong. The earlier days you can play rougher, each person had their own style, superteams were made by higher ups instead of players. I can go on about how this generation is way weaker and much worst. With technology and improvements such as suplements from then to now, of course they're more athletic and well rounded. Around the Kobe era, you couldn't predict who would be in the finals because ALOT of teams had potential. The last few years of basketball, you could easily tell who would be in the finals.

Blueside thank you. Today's generation have access to ALOT. Owners are way more concerned because of the increase of endorsements to their brands having way more money now. Like you said if only the players back then had access to what today's generation has access to. I accept evolution in terms of for the better, but it has not gotten better in the NBA of terms of the game itself.

@D Wash Ron was a great player in his own right. He was also a great guy. He is from the same town I am, Dayton, Ohio, and I had the pleasure of playing against him on the outdoor courts at Fairmont West HS where some of Dayton's great ballplayers came to play. I also played summer pickup games at the old Dayton Fieldhouse and he would play there often, too. He was quiet because of the bad stutter he had but his game was never quite. So underrated. You never hear his name mentioned and that's a damn shame cause he was a fantastic player.

Everyone has their perspective of a certain situation, and this is his perspective and truth. There is truth is what he says, but it goes further than that. IT was from Chicago, it was not just his nephew, it was the fact that he didn't play for the Bulls and was hated in his own town. On top of that the fact that Jordan was actually the face of his own town, made him boil inside.

Jordan had the competitive fire since youth, he would have never been 6 time champ until they got some talent around him, players like Gervin and Reggie Miller would have some rings if teammates were as talented as Bulls, Pistons, Celtics, and Lakers of that era. Early in Jordan's career he could score 40, 50, 60 and still didn't win. You must have a team.

A lot of John's stories have inconsistencies though. There are other interviews from players & even John Salley himself that contradict his statements. Micheal Jordan is ABSOLUTELY the SOLE REASON Isaiah wasn't on the Dream Team. Scottie Pippen stated Michael didn't want him. Michael was the biggest star in the world alongside Michael Jackson & Oprah in 1992 & the organizers of the Dream Team NEEDED him not Magic Bird or anyone else. Magic was upset & didn't want Isaiah, Michael was ultimately the deciding factor. This is a well known fact.

You're Probably Right, But The Main Reason Jordan Dominates The 90s NBA Is Because The Celtics Of Bird And Lakers Of Magic Are Aging And Injured. If You Put Healthy Celtics And Lakers In 90s NBA The Two Mentioned Teams Still Dominates Even In Jordan's Prime.
@jaydubb2005
@jaydubb2005 4 жыл бұрын
@@lennonjamesbebiano9845 Incorrect. Jordan Dominated because no one and no team could stop him at that point. Magic was 31 years old in '90-91 when Jordan unleashed his will on him and the lakers. 31 is still young. Its actually prime because of the experience and lessons but that truly depends on the individuals mindset, work ethic and discipline. Isaiah was 29 at the time. Bird was 34 at the time, with a bad back. Probably from attempting to check Jordan the night he dropped 63 points in the garden. Nevertheless, Jordan was winning 3peats at age 33, 34 & 35. So the age thing is only an excuse. IF is not reality but my above statements are.

Homeowners in Palmer Woods during the 80s and 90s when Salley lived there were minimally high upper middle class to wealthy. What he left out was because of the way Doug Collins was coaching the team. They had to make the switch to Phil because Tex Winter was the orchestrator of the Triangle offense...Because he understood how to get the other player's involved instead of standing around watching one man try to beat an entire team. So Tex told Doug there's another way to play this game but Doug being a Super Fan of MJ didn't wanna hear it because he was to emotional. So they fired Doug plug in Phil and Tex Winter and they began to play real team basketball where everyone is involved Especially Horace Grant and John Paxson. Scottie started to develop as a #2 and that made them lethal, But keep in mind all they gave MJ was one ALL-STAR and he destroyed the NBA. Today that guy in LA who calls himself the Greatest player of All-time need multiple established HOF/Perennial All-star player's to win and in this soft ass version of the NBA can't even 3PEAT...

They used to be super close when they were younger, but somewhere along the line they starting beefing with one another and it became really ugly. If I can recall, IT was saying stuff about Magic HIV etc, and I know Magic was saying stuff about IT too. But the media portray Michael to be the main reason why IT wasn't allowed in the dream team. Look it up, theres this 1 on 1 sit down interview with Magic & IT on the net, and they finally put the past to rest during that 1 on 1 sit down.
