This was filmed in 1996. At the time TNN producers had no idea how lucky they were to get the great and legendary Denver Pyle for this guest appearance on Prime Time Country. He passed away the following year on Christmas Day at 77 years of age. The first Dukes reunion movie was filmed earlier that year and would turn out to be Pyle's last appearance as beloved Uncle Jesse.
@Hefmier4 жыл бұрын
By the time that they did the Reunion movie, Denver Pyle had already lost a lot of weight, and lost his beard, due to the chemotherapy to treat his cancer. They had to make a "fat suit" and false beard for him.

I had sons and they loved the Dukes. We never missed the show. As a matter of fact, I made my own special recipe of Dukes of Hazzard cookies for snacks during the time we watched. My younger son was named Lee Heath but, he loved the Dukes so much that around the time he was 6 (1979) he started being called Bo. Until he passed away from a heart defect at the age of 32, he was known by everyone as Bo. This show was a wonderful part of our family life and their childhood.

I'm not American... but when I was a little fella this show was my first introduction to Americana through TV... From the first episode I was hooked... My two brothers and I just had to watch it every week and wouldn't miss it if the house was on fire. So much good natured fun, a little drama and a whole lot of lessons and morals to learn from it. It was even strangely relatable. Thank you boys.. the memories you still give me are treasured.

I'm a black guy and loved The Dukes of Hazzard as a kid and still to this day if I happen to see it on television I will drop everything to sit there and watch an episode. Growing up I've learned the Confederate flag means different things to different people. They were rebels against the corrupt system in Hazzard. The Dukes were obviously not racist at all. Hell, early episodes they had a black friend called Brody (I think was his name). But the show was truly a show for everyone and we all knew that and felt it back then. All the black and mexican families I grew up around back then watched it as much as the white ones. If I could only watch 6 television shows the rest of my life, The Dukes of Hazzard would be one of them.

Nobody said the show was racist, but the flag is definitely a racist symbol.
@MainEventMafia4Life4 жыл бұрын
@@ebogar42 - You're right. No one has said the show itself is racist. But the fact the flag is represented in high detail makes the show thus racist by proxy. Not saying I agree with that obviously. But that is the mindset many courted in the argument about the show.
@Conservative0072 жыл бұрын
@@ebogar42 the flag represents the southern pride, nothing to do with racism.
@ebogar422 жыл бұрын
@@Conservative007 That's a lie. It was never popular until the KKK made it popular during the civil rights era. Then all of the south flew it to show they were against segregation. Even republicans in the south admit why they were put up at state houses. If it's about pride, why that flag? Why not the actual confederate flag? Why that battle flag that was only flew in a few regiments on the border states with the North? The deep south has no ancestry with that flag. It doesn't rep them in any way. They never flew it in battle or did any of their ancestors. Look up "civil rights era confederate flag" and view the images. Tell me how that is about southern pride and not about showing blacks that they still believe what their ancestors believed about them having rights since the civil war.
@cindybuffington72288 жыл бұрын
A clean decent show and now they took it off because of the flack about the flag, please people get a dang life we couldn't wait for it to air back in 1978 even my grandpa loved the show. RIP Denver (Uncle Jessie), James (Roscoe),Sorrell( Boss Hoggs).

@patrick mcglone One year later, only 23 pepole heve joined them... goes to show just how many people really are *that* offended...! Using the show as context, the flag on the roof really only ever was about Southern Pride and nothing else! People should *stop* being so damn sensitive about every little thing! We should be able to discuss any subject, while treating each other with due respect. Don't throw everybody in with the few bad apples that try to ruin the party, just because they like/love the same items! This goes for flags, clothing-brands and (religious) books! Dukes was always a show that held manners in high esteem, without being overly "preachy". The only innuendo's I ever sensed, were cheeky-but-innocent little winks towards "other kinds" of "good ol' Southern family fun"... 😜 But these were always in good fun and never over the top!

There's another family show that's on these days that your whole family can watch. Its called Heartland. You can see episodes on youtube to. Its a great family show filled with critters, purdy woman & lots of love. To me, its the best show I ever watched. Grand Pa Jack is a hoot in that show. So don't give up on ALL television, cos there's still a few good shows your whole family can watch. Not many of em out there, but this one is a TRUE KEEPER. The writing's good, the scripts are good, the acting is good, & the show itself is GREAT. So in addition to the Dukes & to all the great work that John has done with his project, ya may wanna check out Heartland. Chances are, you'll be glad ya did. And lastly, RIP to Sir Denver Pyle, Sorrell Booke, Peggy Rae, & the Great Waylon Jennings. Your all missed so much.

I was a big fan of the Dukes of Hazzard. I worked at a gas station back in 79 when the show was very popular. There was a guy that would come into the station in a blue 69 Charger with his doors welded shut. The bead of weld was going right down between the door and the quater panel. That’s back when those Chargers were a dime a dozen, but I still felt bad for the car because I was always into cars from a very early age and to see that bubble gum weld on such a nice car really hurt. But the owner of the car enjoyed it so that’s all that matters 👍
