The thing is this, John smiths is available in almost every pub in the land, most people don't put any more thought into the beer they drink in the pub to the radio station that is on in the background day to day. It's popular because it's everywhere and most people don't know any better, I had some the other week in tribute to a dead relative who drank it all the time and it was basic, but it did taste like what a layman would say a beer was. And I think that's basically it, its close enough to beer to pass to the majority who don't look for more.

That's a great comment David and this is similar to how I explain why so people still drink it. Realistically was it ever fantastic to start with? Probably not, brewing now too many years ago is very different as are the quality of the ingredients. But it was better than it is now, the flavour has been reduced slowly over years so people drinking it regularly haven't really noticed how bad it has become, and as you no thought goes into what's being drunk. Cheers David .

Sad to see what's happened to John Smith's - it was a staple when me and my mates started drinking, very smooth can for a lazy day in the park as a young lad. Another casualty of the Heineken/Carlsberg/Greene King-type buyout and asset strip of British brewing.
@ChrissBeerReviews9 ай бұрын
Yeah it was a decent beer when I was in my teens. So sad to what big breweries do to what was once a great name and good beer.

Like yourself I drank this back in the day (90's) when it was around 4.1% and it wasn't a bad drop, similar can be said of Caffreys, Tetley's smooth and Worthington's smooth, but sadly with multiple takeovers and cheaper ingredients they've more or less morphed into the same tasteless bland product and most of the people who drink them either haven't noticed or don't care.

Hi wolf man. Good Old Boy from West Yorkshire Brewery is very good, ESB from Fuller's, Southwold Bitter from Adnams, Sainsbury's Taste The Difference Bitter, all available in Supermarkets. There are others aswell. Out of the ones I have listed The Good Old Boy and ESB are my favourites from supermarkets.

I luv British Stouts and Porters, so this John Smith has anything to do with Samuel Smith? I never try this John one it is an stout? just saying cause of the "Tadcaster" words that it is used by Samuel Smith Tadcaster Porter , I love Shepherd Neame Double Stout , also Ohara's Irish Stout in bottle , Mackeson Triple or milk stout , st peter's honey porter and cream stout, Murphy's stout, London Porter ,Belhaven Oatmeal stout , and almost ANY British Stout or porter because the american "stouts" or porters are a JOKE compared to the real ones from the British Isles , I remember that guinness extra stout in bottles was starting to brew in canada during mid 2000's , it was terrible and horrible, nothing to do with the delicious classic Irish extra stout, of course they stopped brewing there because people stop buying them around 2014 , also Mackeson triple or milk stout they stopped brewing in the UK then in the U.S. and it was ok but never ever like the British super smooth one, all this brewing somewhere else thay are just horrible imitations , also the new joke guinness extra stout brewed in Mexico it was worse than the canadian one , in Mexico micro brewers make one of the best beers in the world for real , their stouts are amazing , thank you for your videos, cheers from Alaska but I am from northen Mexico🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺
@ChrissBeerReviews9 ай бұрын
I agree UK stouts are generally very good. In terms of Sam Smith and John Smith they were brothers and worked together, then they went their separate ways and had their own breweries and both were based in Tadcaster. Sam Smiths is still an Independent brewery producing fantastic ales, sadly John Smiths has changed owners a number of times and is owned by Heineken, the quality of John Smiths has diminished over the years and is now very poor, whilst Sam Smith beers are excellent. Sam smiths do a couple of great stouts/porters. Their organic chocolate stout is incredible. Thank you for watching and leaving a great comment.

Glucose syrup in beer is just lazy brewing and shows just how much these big companies do not care about their product.

@@ChrissBeerReviews The mentality of John Smith's drinkers is I know what I like and I like what I know. There's no inquisitiveness beerwise or in any other way. Of course there are many younger drinkers who can't see beyond Budweiser, Carling or Corona.
@ChrissBeerReviews Жыл бұрын
I absolutely agree. I have been saying the same for years that they just won't deviate away from a beer that they have drunk for years and not noticed the decline of it. They just drink it for the sake of drinking it and probably don't even taste it anymore. If they just stepped out of the odd comfort zone they are in they would realise there are some fantastic bitters and ales out there.
@heiltd1286 Жыл бұрын
@@ChrissBeerReviews Tbh they probably wouldn't like a decent beer. A classic like Worthington White Shield would be beyond them. So would a great newish beer like Titanic Plum Porter. They'd drink Worthington Creamflow. We're talking here about baldies with more hairs in their noses and ears than on their bounces

You used to be able to get John Smith's bitter on handpull as a cask conditioned ale. I had it thus in a pub in Didcot called The Broadwalk. It was ok. Nothing to shout about, but ok. The smooth version is disgusting.
@gursevsanghera70427 ай бұрын
I've noticed that people that love real ales would never drink John smiths extra smooth or Tetley flow or caffreys because one guy because they are keg beers and they come of a chiller there are better bitters out than these
