Margaret and John are truly so underrated, they clash but there’s an attraction that pulls them to one another. @@petravincze1058 It's ok to love them both, especially since it's the same love story. Jane Austen knew how to write a romance, and the classic hate-turned-to-love narrative has been rewritten hundreds of times over. She's the original though, so that's why it's hard to say which is better.

Thank you for including the “happy as we were … we can’t go back” scene. I haven’t been able to watch the show as it’s not available in my geography but I’ve read the book over and over and this is the scene that, to me, shows Margaret’s evolution and how she’s growing to appreciate the spirit of Milton and … of course, Mr. Thornton.

Same! I have been trying to get the story for a few weeks, first denied a physical copy and a Kindle version, and then I was denied being able to watch the film series because of my geography, but then I found a copy at my library to rent. I highly recommend checking your library's online database, I am sure they have it! ^-^ It was my last attempt at getting to experience it at all, and I am so glad it worked!

@@Lizzye33 In all honesty, I did watch a not so crisp print of the show on YT, with only one episode missing. That's the closest I could get. As for the book, I was able to get a Kindle version. And the hard copy is widely sold here too. But I couldn't wait until I got to a store. 🤭

This mini series plays out like the most elegant, stunning symphony. The chemistry between these two is everything. I watch this series at least annually. It always gives me the warm and fuzzies. I am so happy I found this! I began experiencing the story and have been in a slump of good-period romance with an actual plot. Any of the ones considered good, like Pride and Prejudice, Jane Eyre, etc., all have horrible proposals and chemistry, and the guys freaked me out. When we first met Henery, I was nervous that it would be the same, but I was happily wrong! I love the plot, the tension, the depth of all the characters and how it actually has relevant influence over their choices and emotions, and the vibes from the films if unparalleled to what I wish more content would be like now, and I hope to find more again like this gem.

omg this edit is so beautiful. The way this video is edited though is perfect because it meshs all their little moments together and makes their love story so much more cohesive and intense. I think with so much background stuff happening (which was necessary) it got in the way of seeing their love actually develop. Finally watched North and South after having it on my watchlist for so long and loved the series. Loved the characters and seeing them individually grow, but was disappointed as I felt that even though you saw that John and Margaret were attracted to eachother/ were pulled to eachother, and that they chemistry was so strong, the development of their love story fell a little flat and almost sudden. It was clear Ms Hale was curious about Mr Thornton and would deny her attraction to him and that Mr Thornton admired her, but when he spoke of love, that kinda came a little sudden in my eyes. Wish they had more scenes earlier on where they weren't fighting and were put in a situation they could soften up and open up to eachother, so that it didn't feel to sudden. But still love them and such a great show.

I highly recommend to read the book where there's undoubtedly more insights into their thoughts and feelings. John was head over heels for Margraret form the very first moment he met her. It's the fact she looked and behaved so differenlty from all the other women he knew. He describes her attitude as royal-like. He finds himself very much attracted to her physically and he admired her strong and honest personality. He was longing for her every single time he visited her father even though he felt offended by her superior airs and hurtful words towards him. He admits himself that he's so in love with her he even enjoys their arguments as long as he's interacting with her. As for Margaret, it's truly the opposite. She doesn't like him neither physically nor personality-wise. Quite often she repeats in the book that he is not handsome :/ It seems the book version of Mr. Thornton doesn't give him remarquable physical attributes because Margaret is not the only one who describes him as not beautiful, her father, mother and brother also make the same comment. So not only she doesn't find him attractive but she also despises his manner and his profession. I had very hard time understanding her presumptuous attitude in the book. She was kind with everyone but John and I hated that he felt so inferior to her all along. It didn't even feel realistic since she was only 19yo while John was in his 30s. It's hard to believe she had that much of a personality, spirit and mostly charisma to drag such a strong man to his knees. I honestly couldn't stand her pretentious attitude in the first part of the book. The TV version of Margaret is way more loveable
