I have met him, but only very briefly, He was in front of me at my favorite neighborhood coffee house. I asked if it was him, and he said absolutely. I didn't want to bug him at all, but that he was at a little place in a more ignored neighborhood in san francisco at the time meant he knew the town. Have to wonder if he still goes to SF anymore as it's gotten really horrible.

He has an amazing capacity to dish the dirt and come out smelling like a rose 🌹! Howard Stern used to do that a lot. Get into every ones sex life or dirty laundry but Waters has an encyclopedic knowledge of practically every scandal or murder in Hollywood history! That would be an entertaining podcast or talkshow! I just absolutely heart this man and have since I discovered him in the early 90’s. I’ve been working in films doing practical Sfx work and he and Lynch are two of my favorites and a big reason I had a fascination early on for filmmaking. I would die to get a chance to work with either of them.

Probably not as he only watch explotation and grindhouse which is nothing criterion releases, He knows nothing about artsy films, He just rips off other films he has seen, Pulp fiction might be his most original work but even that is seriously overated…Would rather see Werner Herzog or Von trier on here

@paradoxicaljoy4923 4 жыл бұрын
@@simen30 You think Von Trier is a better director than Tarantino? Come on, man. I know Tarantino is an easy target but that's a pretty heavy handed statement. That being said, both the directors you listed would make for very interesting CC closet videos.
@bradleyandrew4378
@bradleyandrew4378 4 жыл бұрын
@simen30: Kind of a ridiculous statement to claim to know what someone "only" watches. Yes, Tarantino openly references exploitation and grindhouse films, but he does the same with art-house classics. He's referenced Fellini, Kurosawa, and his production company was named after a Godard film, a Criterion favourite. I'm positive he watches everything just from hearing him talk, since I've heard mutliple interviews where he discusses a wide range of films. Also, undermining a filmmaker because you prefer another filmmaker just speaks to your ego. The whole Tarantino steals and can't be valued is also so played out. Every artist steals. Von Trier definitely steals from Tarkovsky and Bergman in practically every film and Herzog borrows lots from many of his contemporary German filmmakers. Doesn't make them less of an artist, actually makes them better because they're consuming art and sculpting something new from that in their own world perspective. It's great to reference things you admire. Makes it so much fun! By the way, Criterion has been openly releasing exploitation classics for a while now. Ironically this video is of John Waters, who lovingly has made some of the most exploitative films in the underground film movement, which Criterion has been putting out prolifically.

It's one of my all time favorites, I like to watch a double feature of Psyche Out with Jack Nicholson and Beyond the valley of the dolls afterwards. I adore John Waters which is why I clicked on this video, and I didn't know he was friends with David Lynch which makes sense since I love him as much as Waters, they are probably my favorite directors. they need to make another John Waters one but make it 30 minutes long (or even an hour). I relate to this man more than most people I've ever known (sad, I know, I just never found "my people"). I could listen to him talk about anything, but my god those film picks...his praise of Shirley Stoler...talking about doing acid while watching Fellini...John Waters is simply the greatest. I've watched this like 5 times over the years and need more.

Hi John. I agree with you that the Blob theme song is really great. I wish you could have had more than five picks. Disappointed that you were not able to include Equinox, Freddy Got Fingered, Detour, Shanty Tramp, or the Mondo Cane collection. I don't think Criterion got to them, other than Equinox. Next to your movies, those are a few of my favorites. I rate Freddy Got Fingered almost as high as Female Trouble. I haven’t seen Beyond the Valley of the Dolls. I’ll be sure to check it out. Thanks for the suggestion. The last time I saw you were at a bowling alley at the Jersey shore. An appropriate place. You were very funny. Best of luck.

I saw the last film shown in one of the old movie palaces in Memphis. It was claimed on the local news that Gone With the Wind premiered there. The last movie to play there was Beyond the Valley of the Dolls. I still have a warm place in my heart for it. I've never seen Gone With the Wind. I heard that George Reeves was in it, but I still haven't gotten around to seeing it.
