I missed the birth of my son, and him growing up. I was a truck driver of 39 years, and I missed a lot of his childhood. It hurts knowing I was always away, and never got to see him grow into the man he is today.

My husband was a boat captain on the river barges. Both trucking and riverboat life are lonely, for both the spouse out there for days on end and too few days home, as well as the spouse home holding down the family. It's those sacrifices made so everyone can have the best life possible. Kudos to both you and your wife. Job well done! 🙏

It never gets easier man. 12 years in the oilfield i watched my daughter go from little girl to young woman in pictures. Always second guessing all of my choices on whether i did the right thing. I recently asked my daughter and she told me she never really knew i was gone but knew when i was home i was HOME and had her undivided attention and i was the best daddy in the world. Keep it up brother, much respect for making sure the family is taken care of

As my wife laid there dying there wasn't anything I could do. I did the best I could do for her. She passed away at home at least she wasn't alone. I saw her take her last breath. My heart is totally shattered 💔. I wish I could have been there more for her. She was and still is the love of my life. I have loved and lost in my life but never like this. To busy chasing problems away by just staying busy, do not fix them. Be forgiving, and do it sooner, not matter who is at fault. Humble yourself, go make peace. Start living. Life is short

When our baby Kate was born, it was the biggest day of my life, lyin' there, little bows in her hair, in the lovin' arms of my wife * I was the proudest papa in the U.S.A., makin' a living on the road somewhere a thousand miles away * It was a happy day, but kinda sad * I wish I could've been there, I wish I could've been there * I wish I could've been there for that * Little Bobby hit his first homerun; he was the hero of the hometown crowd * Two to one, it was the winning run; everybody was cheerin' loud * Mama, she was smilin' and sayin' he's a chip off of the old block * But I was on the road somewhere between Memphis and Little Rock * It was a happy day, but kinda sad * I wish I could've been there * I wish I could've been there for that * Now Bobby and Kate are all grown up and moved away; * They stay in touch, we're proud of the good kids that we raised * It's hard to believe we're celebratin' our 25th year today; * This party's nice, but the kids aren't here; at least they called to say: * "Congratulations, Mom and Dad" * Wish we could've been there; wish we could've been there * I wish we could've been there for that * It was a happy day, but kinda sad, * I wish they could've been there; I wish they could've been there * I wish they could've been there for that.

I was a Correctional Officer working Saturdays when my wife and daughter were off. My daughter did all-star (competition) cheer. Her team won US Finals in Indianapolis in 2015. I couldn't have been prouder of her. It was too bad I didn't get to see it. While she was winning her competition, I was sitting in the control room of a cell house. Inmates aren't the only ones who miss their children growing up. Thankfully, I left the prison in 2019 and got to watch her compete 3 times at the D2 Summit at Disney World. I don't regret the decision to walk away from Corrections one bit.

Dad has a job that took him away for weeks at a time. This song is for all the Dad's and Mom's that sacrificed for family. Now that he's been gone almost 33 years his words, " Your going to miss me when I'm gone",hit home as much as now as then.
