I didn’t ask for much as a kid, yet one day I worked up the courage to ask my dad for my first cassette tape. If I did ask for something my old man would ask a series of questions, he’d ask me the cost of the item, did I need it rather than just want it, how would it benefit me and others, how could I do good with the requested item; but that day the first question he asked me was “Who’s on this tape you want?” and when I answered “Creedence Clearwater Revival” his eyes lit up, his ears perked and no more questions were asked. We got in dads old Bronco and drove straight down to the music shop, on the way home we stopped off and got some burgers and sodas and sat there in the parking lot listening to ole John and the boys. One of the happiest days of my life.

After reading a lot of these comments I can only say words like average band , mediocre band definitely do not fit the description of CCR . Those guys sang about the American way or the controversial period called Vietnam . Fortunate Son , a song about how privilege and power made one exempt from having to go fight in a controversial war . Who'll Stop The Rain , Have You Ever Seen The Rain , Run Through The Jungle were a few more protest songs that CCR put to music . They were a legend and still are , their music will never die . They were just four country boys that wrote and sang from the heart and became a legend in my opinion . If Tom Fogarty hadn't passed away I believe Credence Clearwater Revival would still be making music today , like the Stones , Moody Blues , Eagles and others from the late 60's and on . It's just my opinion that some people didn't like CCR because of a draft dodger mentality or might've been one . The band told about how they saw things and felt . They did protest the Vietnam War in song without violence unlike so many others . So yes in my opinion CCR's music will live forever . I'm 64 years of age and my 3 favorite bands of my lifetime are CCR , The Eagles and Bob Segar . All legendary bands .

I’m only 51 but I grew up rocking with CCR. I remember standing against the back of my uncle’s‘72 Ford pickup cab as we idled across the hayfield to load the bales and listening to “Bad Moon Rising” on the radio. As an adult I was serving with an older gentleman (in his seventies) on a church financial board and we were talking about music that we grew up with. I knew he had lived as a young man in Clearwater, Florida, but I was floored when he shared that he actually contributed $50 toward CCR’s demo recording of “Proud Mary”. He said there was a little cafe down there where he and a bunch of the younger crowd hung out, including many local musicians. He was married to a girl coincidentally named Mary at that time, and he said he was always a little suspicious that the song was about her because, “She wasn’t too proud.” Me and the other man on the board there were floored 😝😝😝 RIP brother Ronel Jenkins and thanks for the hilarious memory! Edited to mention that I’m from Jasper, Alabama, about sixty miles north of Birmingham, where Ronel had “fled” to from Clearwater, to rejoin his family while escaping from Mary. 😉

Dan Mitchell not at all. This song was an antidepressant for much of my childhood. It still works that way today. Where words fail, as they often do, music lifts us up. When I first heard it, I took my allowance, ran out & bought the 45 record. The way John makes music, he really brings out the spirit, the best in humanity in any song across the spectrum from dark (Fortunate Son) to fun (Doo doo doo LOMB). Thanks John, for always sharing what we need to hear!

I was lucky enough to see this living legend in Sydney Australia years ago when he had the stage set up as a cabin in the swamp with moss hanging from trees, back lighting was eerily blue with the sounds of swamp critters chirping and buzzing and then John Fogerty started his show! He did not stop apart for the time it took to change guitars, the man is an entertainer in every sense of the word! Btw, I still have an intact ticket to the concert because I asked the guy on the door not to tear it and he obliged, best show I have ever been to!

I’ve seen this Guy a dozen times. Just a great human being. I saw him in Mansfield Mass in 1997 or so. My son was just 6 years old. I managed to have seats in the 5th row center. My kid had a White Red Sox shirt on. He opened with Born on the Bayou and at the end of that song he looked at My Son and pointed at him , Saluted Him and bowed to him. My Son was ( at 6 ) jumping up and down yelling Dad Dad, he said hi to me he said hi to me and proceeded to start crying tears of Joy. My Son is 30 years old and still talks about that nite. A wonderful moment thanks to John Fogerty. Thank You John. And thank You too Julie.
