Honda has recognized the collar as a flaw. I took my HSS1332A Honda to my dealer they swapped out the old shoot for the new one. The new one has no collar and is made of thicker steel to keep vibration to a minimum. All for free. Moved 6 inches of really wet heavy slush last week and no clogging whatsoever. Looking forward to your control extension. I’m 6’ tall and it is pretty apparent this machine was made for people on the shorter side. I don’t understand the surging. My machine has never done that and reading the comments it seems to be a point of contention (that would make me crazy too).

I'm glad Honda came out with a new chute to solve this issue. They created this problem by putting the LED light where they did, thus adding the collar trying to protect it. I don't like the Ariens light location either, being up on the control panel. Honestly, Cub Cadet has the best solution putting an LED Light Bar on top of the auger housing. That's the best place for a light. No shadows from the chute, like on the Ariens, and no problems with having to use a collar to protect the light on the Honda. While I'm not a fan of Cub Cadet and think their "3 stage" is a sales gimmick and "clog magnet", their LED Light Bar is AWESOME.
@JohnFrancoNH4 жыл бұрын
yes the more forward and lower mounted LED and hood for the chute motors created the need for the collar. Similar to previous gen Canadian models. Will have to check out the CC light bar. Thanks for watching!

Try drying off as much as possible the areas that the snow builds up on in front and the spray that, the inside of the chute and the rest of the impellers with PAM cooking spray and see that nothing sticks and it shoots a few feet more. Works great on hand shovels also!

My first and last Honda snow blower. A $3K HSS928AATD purchased on 1/22/2016 and which of course clogs with slush. My free hand me down 1976 single stage Simplicity did as good if not better! Moved from central/western MA to central Maine. Even here getting sleet, rain and slush causing clogging. Didn't realize until 1-2 years ago that this was a known issue in which Honda was somewhat admitting to. Recently reached out to a local dealer who called Honda for a possible good will replacement of the chute. A flat out no. It's too old. They are looking at it as a warranty issue when in fact it is a design issue. Considered your mod at first but, your mod is for the Honda modified chute which would add another $60 to procure. If I were to order a Honda modified chute would it also be worth while switching to a double articulated one which I'm told will add another $90 to the chute cost? Probably should post this on a snow blower site. Would appreciate any feedback.

While I love Honda, and have Honda lawnmowers, I choose Ariens Pro RapidTrak because of these problems with the clogging chute, jetting, slow chute turning speed, and under powered (on the 28" Honda). None of these machines are perfect, but spending over $3000.00, I couldn't get over these Honda issues. I'm glad Honda finally admitted they had a "clogging chute" problem and fixed it on newer units.

Hi John. I have an HSS928ATD and I just bought an HSS 1332ATD - need a backup snowblower out here. After watching your first vid I was ready to make the factory deflector removal mod - but then I saw this video and it made me wonder - what would have happened if you had just cut that "n" shaped hole in the factory deflector instead of removing it completely? Maybe that would have solved the problem? I guess there's no way to know.

I take it you havent tried the new collar delete yet then? These new models can rotate the chute back clockwise almost to the point were it hits you in the face. Doesnt happen as much all the way CCW. Try it
@l337pwnage3 жыл бұрын
Seems to do the job. I'm thinking of making a much more basic baffle for mine. Just bolt it in with eyebolts and locking wingnuts, the idea being I can remove it without tools if needed. Leave it in for normal snow, remove it for slush.
@JohnFrancoNH3 жыл бұрын
A good design does not need to be removed. I recommend going with low profile hardware. Wingnuts and slots etc have crossed my mind but it adds alot of bulk which will accumulate discharge. I will be making a follow up video soon. Working on a newer design for the chute guard/deflector. Should be out next month. Thanks for watching!
@l337pwnage3 жыл бұрын
@@JohnFrancoNH It would be difficult to describe my design, suffice it to say, the wingnuts won't be on the inside. I probably never will have to remove it. I rarely even have to blow slush. I won't know till I do it. I have no problem with adapting equipment for different applications, it doesn't bother me. If it does become a problem, I'll just install an impeller kit.

saw others stated about adding the rubber pcs to your impeller? you stated honda's do not need them? i see that this unit does throw pretty far, but could throe much further if added the rubber pcs. there has to be some clearance between the impeller and housing. just curious and asking.
@JohnFrancoNH4 жыл бұрын

Small collar at the bottom that covers the corners.
@douglasthompson2740 Жыл бұрын
I don't really call that slush. Your carb needs a good clean. My old Honda had no problem up the chute but where the impeller opening choked down into a square opening which restricted and caught the heavy wet slush. Thirty someting degrees and snow plow berms with salt makes real slush in a coastal environment. Huge problem which is terrible to hand shovel. The HS622 was all gear driven not a belt on it. Gravel driveways eat up the machine.

I do disagree with the problem. The Clogging issue is because the motor is not running high. That could be because of the choke or not having the gas turned up enough. The motor is surging, check the carb and the choke.
@ericswenson14665 жыл бұрын
What's causing it to run like that at 20:30?
