Sam, when I've run trim on a long wall with multiple boards, I always trim the intermediate board ends with a 30 degree bevel. It it shrinks or contracts, it doesn't show a gap through to the wall behind or buckle. The two boards just slide along each other. Great job, and looks very nice.

The cereal I'm down with, the laminate I'm not! As a professional floor layer and business owner I strongly advise against laminate of any form. It's cheap for a reason. John, step up and get an epoxy floor and stop being so tight. Ill even travel to the US to install it for you.
@kazzellinempanger8998
@kazzellinempanger8998 2 жыл бұрын
I’m kind of surprised you guys didn’t use any kind of underlayment between the plastic and the laminate. Then again, it also looks like you’re installing on concrete. Hopefully, not letting the laminate acclimate to the room properly (you left it on the pallet, so air won’t have circulated around it at all) won’t bite you this summer. (Worse case I’ve ever heard of was a college gym in FL, using the 3’ x 3’ metal-sheathed stuff-didn’t acclimate it properly, installed it, came back after the weekend and couldn’t figure out why the lights in the gym wouldn’t turn on. The floor expanded so much it bowed and went up the walls. They had to take the roof off to get it out. Whether that actually happened is another matter entirely, but FL is hecka humid as far as I know. 🤷🏼‍♀️)

Why didn't you use a foam underlayment? It evens out the small height differences, isolates the cold from the floor and mutes the noise a bit when you step on it. And costs practically nothing.
@chio987
@chio987 2 жыл бұрын
I thought it was required for floating floors, unless this isn't a floating floor? Maybe all that's needed is a vapor barrier? I have no idea as I'm not a flooring guy and only did something like this once and i used the foam underlayment so I definitely had the same thought.

The struggle to find $1 flooring that doesn't suck is real. My young family operates on an income of $55K before takes and a livestock expenses. Having animals and 4 young kids I should be buying $4/sqft product for quality (or concrete) but alas sub $2 is a win. Personally for the floors I've put in, I start looking for what material is the base and the edges for snapping it together or if you tap it together does the crap crumble like one of the Tarkett floors I used in our dining room as my first attempt. Next Tarkett was great. Heck I even have a room with the super thick stuff from Sam's Club and it worked out great.

I've been a general contractor for many years, put in a lot of flooring, you boys did a fine job. Just one thing. I hope you didn't make your ends tight against the walls. Vinyl doesn't react to temperature change as wood/laminate does but it will move some especially with hot and humid summer days in PA. Lastly they make a rectangular plastic block for locking in the edges and a flat steel bar for tight spots... for future references of course, lol!

Divide room length by finish face of floor board, most likely it will tell you how many whole boards with a decimal left over. You then divide that decimal by the flooring finish face measurement and it will tell you the size of left over flooring piece represented by decimal from original equation.
