I see comments saying the sandwich shouldn't be so wet. You really have to try it. No one I know has gone back to a dry Italian Beef after they have tried it dipped. It's a whole other dimension of flavor. The gravy/ au jus adds so much extra creamy, salty, spicy, beef-laden umami flavor to an already delicious sandwich, that the only way it could be improved it by adding a classic Chicago-style Spicy Italian sausage to the sandwich. At this point the sandwich has become so mind-blowingly amazing, that after eating one, the birds will spontaneously sing in the trees as the sun breaks through the clouds, the planets will align, and one will have their faith in a higher-power restored. Peace in our time, people...peace in our time.... edit: changed "Polish" to "Spicy Italian".

This is my favorite spot and trust me I’m from Philly lived in Brooklyn nyc and I still feel love a Italian beef is the winner compared to our Philly cheesesteak and a nyc chop cheese.

I agree. I love a great Philly cheesesteak sandwich, but this actually tops their best cheesesteak even at the Terminal. Somehow eating Johnnie's sandwich reminds me of those awesome cheesesteak sandwiches.

So the Chicago style Italian beef is one of the three best sandwiches in America. The other two being a Philly cheese steak and a classic Rubin. In no particular order. You can’t go wrong with any of them. Honorable mention goes to a good Miami style Cuban sandwich.

even if they told you EXACTLY what's in the spice mix, I guarantee you that you'll still fall short of what they make, and it will end up costing you MORE than it would to simply go there and slop it up ! LOVE Johnnies

Anybody with any experience in food could look at and taste their spice blend and probably nail almost every ingredient in it. And if you omitted one or 2 ingredients in it, most ppl would never be able to tell the difference. What truly makes this sandwich great is the technique and quality of ingredients. Too many ppl harp on the"secret ingredient" when in reality the secret is right there in plain sight. It just creates intrigue that keeps the customers coming.

As a native🇮🇹 Italian🇮🇹 of 48 yo, i dont know what means "Italian beef". Is It stewed? fried? Boiled? Let me know, please. This Is probably an american recipe , not Italian. "Giardiniera" in italian Means : boiled vegetables in vinegar, salt and water.
