I'm not the biggest fan of southern music, or even a lot of religious allegory, but I think, at some point, Johnny Cash reaches beyond genre.

I fought the battle for many years. Raised in Deep South Baptist Belt. I traveled through Memphis to St Louis a lot for work and there was a huge record store off the interstate round Sikeston. Every time I passed that store the tugging inside of me got stronger and stronger to stop. Walked out 1 evening with a huge JC box set. Shortly after he began the American recording sessions. I bought them 1 by 1 as they came. His music gave me a deeper understanding of the personal relationship that’s required with the Big Man. Lead me to a much quieter place in my head, full of peace, understanding and love for my brothers and sisters. I realized that every tug inside is the greater “you” (Gods voice) trying to lead you to “it”. Now I recognize the tug much easier and fight it much less!

I grew up in the Apostolic Pentecostal church, so many preachers and evangelist had been in jail or gangs. You'd see those men in dress suits on the platform and never would know it. They had become contributing members of society, married, and always grateful to God for His deliverance. Those men were the most powerful preachers because they had been thrown away by society, but restored by the Lord.

PRAISE JESUS!!!!!!! i've loved Johnny Cash's faith songs for years, but somehow haven't heard this song until this morning, immediately after bawling my eyes out to our LORD about some long standing sin that i'm facing up to. i'm in tears again writing this, JESUS loves us so much, it's unfathomable. i praise and thank Him for His loving sacrifice, for taking the eternal punishment for my sins and encouraging and comforting me through the earthly consequences. This man is a sheering example of how to be humble and down to earth.. A true artist. The kind that aren't celebrated at all anymore because they took them out of the mainstream from us. They are terrified of anything that speaks truth. That's why its almost impossible that we will ever have another like Cash or Dylan.. Real artists. That doesn't mean they have to be experts at their instruments. They just have to be honest.

I agree with you. I am by no means a Christian or believer in that faith. But Jonny Cash's vocals and religious songs are some of my favorites of his. I hope he made it to his reward as well, and even tho I'm not a follower of his faith, I want to believe he is in heaven, being as rascally as he was in life and singing his songs to the angels and his god
@kodiak_9169
@kodiak_9169 3 жыл бұрын
@@natede6519 he is, this song especially explains lots of Christians and how we’re useless without God’s knowledge and love, we all go through all lot in life and many people don’t like to hear our problems because they end up carrying that sadness with them or they just don’t care enough to listen to you and these are our everyday friends and sometimes families, but what he’s saying in the song is that he’s putting his cares on the Lord on how painful living in the flesh is. There could be more elements to the song.

@@womenhelpingwomenw.o.w5102 I think Johnny Cash is a fantastic singer song writer and story teller. Love some of the fantastic covers on his American Albums. Check out Folsom Prison Blues live on the Jools Holland (Later) brilliant. I am also a massive Willie Nelson fan. Most of my favourite music is Blues/Blues Rock/Heavy Rock/70s/Americana. It is nice to have someone who shares the same passion in music. Sorry for the loss of your sister. A lot of Willie Nelson songs always remind me of my late Mother

Aw man, all of his songs are great, but the comedown and the blues ones really speak to me, the feeling of a comedown can be extremely bad, (the fear) this song sounds like what I need 🤯🤣

Lefty. Good to see that brother. He’s solid. Did time with him at Old Folsom. He’s Indian. Was always at the Indian grounds with his photo album with all the history of Old Folsom.

Don’t know this song. Two months ago I would have been crying. Now my self pity and crying days are over. Finally I found what I was looking for. MUSIC. Just the joy of hearing and playing it by myself. There’s no therapist who can beat this.
