Yeah. They fell for two men that…well this song is prophetic. These two and their ex take the saying: “like father, like son” to a whole other level. You’d think this was done recently…but no. Wonder what they think when they see/listen to it now. Was Reba thinking “He’s going to screw you over and you’ll feel this way someday” when they filmed this-especially the last part? It would be interesting for them to do another version of it…NOW.

Right, blame it on the friend. Many times the friend helps, but that help flips on their head and they get hurt by helping someone who doesn't want to be helped or even willingly returns to the abuser. No one can help a battered woman but herself by growing her self-worth and leaving.

The video and the song can evoke two different perspectives. When I hear the song, I think of my mother and all the verbal, mental and emotional abuse she heaped on me. This song made me realize "No MORE!" and I got her out of my life a couple of years ago. Since then I've received many compliments about how I've become more confident, more trusting and more dependable. When I watch the video, it inspires me to work on helping women become survivors, not victims of abusive relationships.

I love this duet because it shows the true pain and helplessness that happens during abuse. For everyone who questions Reba's character walking away, think about it. How many times have you seen or heard people fighting at Walmart or next door and didn't do anything because it "wasn't your business?" It's even harder to act when you went through or still are abused and are afraid to make it worse. This song is exactly how it feels to be so so scared.

or you try and try to help them, because you HAVE been through the same damned thing, and they aren't ready to get out of that situation, wont let you help, so you walk away, knowing they will be hurt again and there isn't a damned thing you can do about it. Cant even call the cops cause she will just deny it, wearing his bruises on her face...Ive been the abused and the one watching the abuse, and to be honest im not sure which one hurts more. Maybe im the lucky one because my abuse was as a child and I was able to get away when I met my husband.. but the woman im thinking of may live with her abuser the rest of her life. Every time I see her I try to remind her im there, and she can get out, but it just puts distance between us, not between them, unfortunately. God I hate abusive bastards like that.

I was in an abusive relationship for almost 2 years. Concealer was my best friend. Nobody knew, not even my closest friends. Not even my family. I was forced to act like nothing was wrong. I had to smile and laugh, and go about life as if I wasn't going to go home to face the furious fists of my drunken fiance. Nick, I am no longer your punching bag. I no longer have to keep your dirty little secret. This song is so close to my heart because the words of this song was my life fir two long, miserable years. Now, I'm finally free, and I'm engaged to a wonderful man who would never lay his hands on me. I love you, Chris.

You are SO strong. My sister has been in an abusive relationship for years and I just wish we could help her. We try, but love is blind and the fear is strong for her to leave. It hurts my heart to see her feel like she is trapped. She leaves then she goes right back because he makes her believe she can't survive without him and with their kids. I'm happy you made it out of your abusive relationship safe 🙏

I've always loved Kelly's original version because it was so deep, but now coming across this video and duet....powerful!!! As a DV survivor, this gave me chills and my heart raced. The dynamics within an abusive relationship make it hard to explain to an outsider looking in, and also to leave. Fear and doubt keep you from running. You KNOW you will continue getting hurt, but also know it can kill you whether you stay or try leaving. Your life/well being, that of your children(if you have them), your pets and others you love are under constant threat. It takes an average of 6 to 7 times of trying to leave before succeeding. The amount of manipulation and gaslighting is insane to the point the victim is made to believe everything is their fault, not the truly sick actions of the abuser. Ladies, your voice is so much powerful than that monster makes you believe. Take your voice and power back. You may feel alone, but YOU ARE NOT!! Silence kills, but the truth kills a monster. Please reach out, speak out, make a safe escape plan and breathe again. You can be free and happy again. Sending love, prayer, support and power to all my survivor sisters and those still trapped. There's a community of survivors waiting and willing to help. Reach out!

Reba and Kelly did an amazing duet. Anyone who listens to this song even once could hear the sad resignation that a child feels when they have to be the adult. This is also perfect for people involved in abusive relationships, especially if the abuser is older than them.

It is perfectly normal to feel badly about locking them up. My first dv support group meeting, I BROKE because of the guilt I felt for finally doing what I had to do for my babies. But other survivors helped me to realize that HE put himself there. They broke my trauma bond. My victim part of me died and i was reborn as some stranger who i still to this day do not recognize. I pray you are still free from that hell. 7 years free and i'm STILL triggered by certain things and have absolutely no idea how to get back to who i was before him. soooo much damage. and the only treatment is pills and intense therapy (IF you can find a therapist who actually gives af)

It's because leaving is very very very dangerous for victims and their families/pets/kids. In reality, we would never be able to just break up with them. We have to fight with our lives to get out of that hell. A lot of abusers keep their guns loaded and ready, sitting out right in front of the victim as a form of intimidation. and if we use that gun on them, we could end up in prison for defending ourselves. It is SO fucked up out here for victims. We literally have close to 0 help. all the shelters are always full. and so many cops don't even take our reports because abusers kill them while they're trying to help. Abusers are dangerous af to not only their victim, but also to law enforcement officers. It's one of the most dangerous types of calls they take. And it's fucked up because if they'd actually lock the abusers up in prison where they should be, they wouldnt be able to intimidate/psychologically manipulate their victims into going back. And it's not just the abuser we have to worry about. we also have to worry about their family and friends retaliating because of felonies given to their "beloved" one. They are psychological monsters and they manipulate the courts every single fucking time. unless we get a good judge. (I'm almost 7 years free of mine, but i'll advocate for dv victims until my last breath. Also, Sorry for the year later chapter, but all of this is absolutely from a dv WARRIOR'S pov & i'm just giving perspectives that people can try to understand & that come from victims all over the world) The evidence is all here. in dv support groups. of all types. millions of victims are trapped because they have no safe place to go and trauma bonding is such a bitch. We need more/bigger shelters.
