Hello, my name is Martin Schmitz from Germany, and I have never seen such a beautiful, fantastic series as "Detectorists" in my life, these films are so humorous and full of love that one would like to watch all episodes together, it is already like an addiction, but a nice pleasant addiction! I've seen a lot of films in my 54 years, but I've never been more delighted by films like the series "Detectorists", the actors and the script are unique, just close to the life of the simple, that's what makes this series so likeable. "Detectorists" deserves a sequel with new episodes, many people would certainly be grateful for it and these many people are waiting with great longing for a continuation of this unique wonderful series that touches the hearts of so many people! Please consider a sequel, you would make an audience of millions very happy. Kind regards, Martin Schmitz

I'm a 68 year old American who grew up on TV since it began. I am here to say that "Detectorists" is the finest television series of it's genre ever produced. I realize of course that it's a bold statement, considering the thousands of really great British, American and Global shows made in the last 60+ years. (Many might disagree with my opinion (and I realize that it's just my personal opinion and that my comments are not meant to create a "contest"). But I think we can ALL agree that Mr. Crook is a bona fide, cinematic genius (writer, producer, actor) of the First Order. From his initial concept to casting, story line, script, pacing, editing, sets, location, music, lighting and MOST of all... that brilliant and sublime humor! I just cannot praise this series and Mr. Crook high enough! And Johnny Flynn's unique, tender, clever and perfect theme song coupled with his honest and infectious performance easily rivals anything produced by Dylan.

Cheers to McKenzie Crook....and that damn fine cup of coffee. Hitchhiking in the early 70's I got a ride from the Twin Peaks script writer, he was doing research on the series. I first watched this when it debuted but it didn't catch with me until a good few years later. I started watching it through the summer of 2020, in the middle of UK lockdown. My lifelong friend and I would meet outside and sit by the river, a little walk across the fields from where I live. We would sit by the shore, drinking tea, eating biscuits and watching the landscape. This song absolutely reminds me of that time. I also recommended Detectorists to him and he loves it too. This song is absolutely perfect as it encapsulates those lazy warm summer afternoons chatting with an old friend.

I can't remember when I last enjoyed a comedy series as much as Detectorists. It's sublime, & worth watching each episode twice to appreciate all the nuances. It's also a refreshing change to hear the accent....rather than the usual ones on tv now.

MacKenzie Crook is so under rated. Before this show I mainly knew him as the guy with the fake eye from Pirates of the Caribbean. This has become one of my most favorite shows. The humour is very understated and subtle, which is such a pleasant change from being able to see a pinchline from a mile away. The dialogue is perfect. And this song echos this perfectly. Binge watching the shit out of this right now.

I love the skirt between the two of them and he tells him “well that’s stalking” “ no! It’s only stalking if you do it a bunch of times.” “ so how many times did you follow her ?” “ four or five times. I think you need a lot more than that to be a stalker.” I paraphrase I don’t know the scene off by heart but that was roughly it. I nearly pissed my boxers laughing at that scene.

My wife and I absolutely love this show and have watched the box set several times. The script and acting are so perfect and the beautiful Suffolk countryside and the filming in the picturesque village of Framlingham fit so perfectly. If you ever get a chance to visit this little gem of a place then do so. The village hall, church, Maggie's shop, Two Brewers pub and Framlingham Castle (not featured in the show) are all within a five minute walk of each other and we love to visit whenever we are down from Sheffield. All the actors involved are so perfectly cast and yes the theme tune is also an absolute gem. If you love this show then check out Mackenzie Crooks take on Worzel Gummidge.... its a treat.

I took up metal detecting about two and a half years ago. It has helped to get me through a very difficult period in my personal life. Listening to this song and watching the show make me emotional. Standing alone on one of my beautiful permissions watching the sun set over the horizon on a summer's evening whilst searching for history is a pleasure only fellow detectorists could truly understand. When you pull something amazing out of the ground it gives you a feeling you can't really put into words - just being the first person to hold whatever it is for hundreds of years. I really do feel like those little artefacts and coins are waiting for me to rescue them. This song is pure brilliance. I know it means a lot to many people - that's obvious from the comments here. Thanks so much Johnny for sharing your talent with us.

It really was a gem and as much as I long for a 4th series, I'd rather pine for it than ever be disappointed with it overrunning. In this hectic life and crazy time in Britain right now, this show was the perfect antidote on all that is great. Bucolic loveliness. Pub? Go on then.

I watched the little documentary about the making of the show. McKenzie wanted to keep it authentic and Detectorists that he talk to were worried that they were going to be stereotyped as anorak wearing social misfits who were mentally unsound. And yes let’s face it it is a nerdy hobby. But McKenzie handled the material with velvet gloves regarding people with metal detectors and showed they are just normal people who like to metal detect there’s nothing weird about them.

@@johncarey9197 Some time ago Mackenzie Crook was talking on BBC Radio 4 and quickly corrected the interviewer who assumed the series was intended to mock detectorists, making the point that all over UK many people indulge in hobbies some of which are agreed to be eccentric, even by the participants. Tapping into a great British comedy tradition of eccentric behaviour!
