Johnny Gaudreau Killed In Car Accident RIP Johnny Hockey

Last night X was exploding with a rumor that Columbus Blue Jackets forward Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew were killed in a car accident in New Jersey.
I stayed up extremely late, hoping the rumor would be debunked as a hoax.
I woke up this morning to the sad news that this tragic story was in fact true.
Sickening stuff.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the Gaudreau family and all of their friends.
Rest In Peace Johnny Hockey and Matthew.

So incredibly sad. The news shouldn't have leaked out the way it did, from whom it did - it was super unprofessional. I can't imagine the Gaudreau family losing two sons the night before their daughter's wedding. And then Johnny's own wife and kids. Absolutely tragic and devastating. The drunk driving aspect makes it so much more painful. I hadn't heard the details of how it happened on the road until this video, Ace. No words for how horrible this is... This video just popped up in my feed and I hadn’t seen it yet. It still doesn’t feel real. The whole hockey community was shaken by this unimaginable tragedy and it has been really uplifting to see the entire hockey community as well as other sports communities stand behind, mourn with, and support John and Matthew’s family through this. I’ll never forget how much I wanted Johnny Hockey on the Devils at the time of his FA. May they both rest in peace 💔

Stay safe all ❤ For anyone curious: I am a (low level) attorney, and can tell you that this guy will likely never have a penny to his name ever again-he killed a guy with $40m left on his contract, plus another few years of earning power. Plus the obvious 25 to life for the two killings.

My closest friend was a Calgary Flames fan, and she introduced me to "Johnny Hawkey" at the time! Johnny Hawkey was a massive part of my teenage years, and he was one of the first hockey players outside of the Canucks and Wayne Gretzky that I was associated with!

Reading the description of the accident made me so mad. To be so ignorant to drive drunk and then to also be aggressive and reckless like that. We have to sometimes realize that life is short and the arguments that we all have isn't worth it to get angry about as it only takes one moment for any of us to become a memory. When something like this happens, fandom and rivalries all take a back seat and we all mourn as a hockey community and human beings. To lose two men at these ages is tragic no matter the circumstances, but to have their lives cut short by the selfish reckless actions of someone is truly unfathomable. One poor decision has effected the lives of parents, siblings, wives and children. As you said there’s never been a good reason to drive while impaired but in todays world where it is so easily avoidable makes this such a senseless loss. RIP Johnny & Matthew.

Such a sad story. I feel so bad for the family. Especially the sister. What was supposed to be a day of joy and happiness, is now a day of mourning and sadness. My condolences to the family. I work as an appraiser for an insurance company. I have seen many drunk driving accidents...including fatals. Seeing what I have seen, Ace, you are 100% correct. There is no excuse for drunk driving. Even if that Uber or Lyft is $150, someone's life is worth it..I remember one assignment I had, a guy was drunk driving on 287 in a Corvette, weaving in and out of lanes, speeding, etc. He clipped a family of 4, and smashed into a semi, eventually going under it. Family of 4 had minor injuries, but the drunk driver, he wasn't wearing a seatbelt, and was killed. His wife was in the passenger seat, and survived. All I can say is good riddance to the drunk driver, and I really hope the wife uses her story as an example of the dangers of drinking and driving. You could not even tell that car was a Corvette when I saw it.

Nice tribute Ace. I agree, the driver deserves far worse than to spend the rest of his life in a jail cell. He does not deserve his freedom again. Well said, Ace. R. I. P. for both of them. Hoping the guy who did this realizes the gravity of what he’s done. I know many people were disappointed with his demeanor in the video where the judge told him he has to stay in prison until Thursday. I’m sorry but aggressive driving isn’t worth the risk, and you never know how crazy someone else on the road may be, and retaliatory actions they might take, if they have a weapon, etc. and you actually don’t get where you’re going that much faster.

@@runninwiththedevils due to holiday weekend, he has to stay in jail until Thursday. (Not sure of all the legal details personally, but it’s normally 72 hours per the judge in video.) The guy leaned back and sighed and looked pissed. Many folks read it as not being regretful for what he’s done. I don’t pretend to know what’s going through his head, but wasn’t a great look after you killed 2 innocent people. My biggest frustration with his story/behavior after basically claiming guilt to manslaughter is that he states he had 5 or 6 beers, like that’s an excuse, and carte Blanche to do whatever he wants. It just seems unreal, that those dudes were killed. You keep rereading it like, “are you sure it’s that Johnny Gaudreau?” I can’t imagine the judge was impressed in the first place, and the guy’s response is definitely not helping the situation.
